Worst States

Just a random thought, (actually Foto made me do it)...what are your opinions on the worst states in the US, here in Wisconsin we are known for our dislike of our neighbors to the south in Illinois...and we have our lovely acronym for them (FIB'z) but I won't explain that here.

Any thoughts?

Wetzel 27-08-2002 14:34

Now what Foto?
That said, look at a map. It is clear that NJ is the armpit of America. That and it always smells funky.

hehehehe... I am too bored...

I'd vote for Oregon, they don't do anything. They just seperate California from Washington...

My brother notified me that all gas stations are full-serve, to provide more jobs...

Heh, heh, heh...

I know someone is going to hate me for this...
Please keep in mind that I'm just kidding...

Ricky Q. 27-08-2002 14:38

Sure Jim, we're all only kidding, aren't we?

If you think New Jersey smells funny... don't ever go to Kaukauna, WI! The whole city is paper mills... Yuck.

Anyway I think the worst state is Nevada. I don't know, I just don't like it there. That and Illinois (gotta stick with the Wisconsin image here ;))

I would hope it wasn't on your list in the first place!! If it was, you could come visit me though - Kaukauna is only ~10 minutes away from Appleton. :D Oh, I remembered ... I don't like Minnesota. I've been there before and I just don't like it. No real reason though...

yea part of Indiana does that too :D

Erin Rapacki 27-08-2002 15:48

What ever happens in New Mexico? Does it still exist?

Rob Ribaudo 27-08-2002 15:56

I'm surprized that no one brought up states that do not have teams that are in FIRST for the reason of not having teams in FIRST. These states are: Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, and Nebraska from the last I check (which is at the moment I am writing this). Some one needs to go out and start a team in each of those states.

jon 27-08-2002 15:56

Never come to Florida. Florida has nothing to offer.

Ken Loyd 27-08-2002 15:57

Don't knock Arizona

I grew up in Ahia. I finally got smart and moved to Arizona where every winter I get to dodge all the snowbirds (retired old folks from Minn, Wisc, Mich,.....Maybe I should have stayed in Ohio?

KL

DanLevin247 27-08-2002 15:57

I'm gonna say Nebraska and Ohio.

Nebraska? Yeah, you know you forgot it was a state too.

Ohio? The whole stupid state is flat as a board, no hills whatsoever, 2 lane highways, smells like cabbage.

SlamminSammy 27-08-2002 16:01

New Mexico has some great science research centers, Minnesota is a major business center (Xcel energy, Target, Best Buy, Medtronic, etc.) and agrarian capital of the world (w/ General Mills, Pillsbury, Green Giant, Hormel, etc.). Can't think of a reason to keep the Dakotas or Wisconsin though.... Please don't say cheese, European cheese is so much better.

Californian cheese is the best...

Mark Hamilton 27-08-2002 18:51

I'd say Kentucky. I got dragged there for a family reunioun and was bored out of my mind. Miles and miles of corn feilds (and some other crops that were harder to recognize). And it was horribly hot (and you know you're in trouble when someone from Florida calls your state hot) and flies were everywhere. If anyone is from there, I feel very very sorry for you.

Katie_269 27-08-2002 19:04

Well lets see...since I have been almost no where i would not be the person to ask. Instead of talking about the worst states lets talk about the best states. I would have to say Wisconsin is awesome. You get a variety of weather, and if you are lucky you can be really cool and get a cheesehead...right ricky. He he...thanks so much for getting those this year. That was funny at competitions.

Katelyn

Jnadke 27-08-2002 19:53

The worst state is unarguably North Dakota. It's cold, dull, and just plain sucks. As a matter of fact, it has the lowest tourist revenue out of all the United States.

We should just sell it to Canada for some overpriced amount. I'm sure they'd buy it.

Madison 27-08-2002 20:01

I'm just hoping that we'll eventually name all 50 states, and then the symbolism will be beautiful.

Really.

Or, maybe I just feel like starting trouble.

Joe Matt 27-08-2002 20:12

Cough... Cough.... Virginia.... Too much Confederacy... Cough... Cough

Pengiun Joe 27-08-2002 20:39

Well, I for one think North Dakota. I mean, there's nothing there. It basically looks like Montana. And we already have a Montana. And if anything happens to North Dakota, we still have South Dakota as a backup.

Wisconsin is vital!! Without it you would be missing so many things:

Your favorite magazines: Quad-Graphics prints tons of magazines like Sports Illustrated and Time :-p

The Brewers: what other team are you gonna make fun of?

Packers: the best NFL team ever...12 time world champions

and of course the funny town names :-p

MattK 27-08-2002 20:45

NH ROCKS! I live here, and so does Dean. We have all 4 seasons (although, like spring is 2 days long)

Jon K. 27-08-2002 20:46

Having been to most of the states I have to say that Kansas is the worst. Miles and miles of sunflowers. And I found nothing wrong with Wyoming i happen to like Old Faithful and Yellowstone. I also liked Utah because of Arches. But some states are deffinetly boring and dull.

MattK 27-08-2002 20:46

I personally love MA (boston) and the whole new england area. Maine is SWEET!!! :) I would live in northern maine. I would live in northern Canada, and probably Alaska (however I haven't been that far before).

Cant possibly agree with you more, cept on the Alaska part. My unlce lives in Portland Maine, right on the ocean. Its increadable you wake-up look out his kitchen window and it looks out over the harbor.

He is a writer (now writting a sci-fi novel) so I guess its great insperation. Although he often comments that Munich (Spelling) Germany is very very nice (He is a Polital/Millitary analist, so he lived there for awhile. Although he left his job to write for a little)

So yes, I also love boston. I love citys especialy Washington DC. :)

MattK 27-08-2002 21:22

Well, Florida does have nice Golf Courses. But so doesnt New England. Gunna have to think about this for some time

Bill Gold 27-08-2002 21:29

OK. Now I'd like to get rid of NH. Sorry Dean. Sorry FIRST, but I'm really sick of NH. Kick NH out :).

Mike Schroeder 27-08-2002 21:32

But NH has so much verity, Lakes and Beach in the Summer. Skiing and snowboading in the winter time.

Its full of stuff to do

MattK 27-08-2002 21:36

What I dont get is why almost everyone from NH moves out to Cally. Then comes back 3 years later.

As Adam Carolla once said to me (yes the man show Adam Carolla)

"You Know how all you people from NH come out to LA? You can come, but tell everyone ells to stay in NH!"

MattK 27-08-2002 21:37

Yeah, a mass driver wont even stop. You step off the curb, you're puttin your life on the line.

mtaman02 27-08-2002 21:38

I can name a few usless states right now. North & South Dakota. this is because nothing is ever going on those states. is a bunch of mountains just like utah. sry if i offended anyone but it does have some truth to it.

mtaman02 27-08-2002 21:43

Who dares say they hate New York, :D Without us New Yorkers the business around the world will go down the toilet. Between us and Washington D.C. we are the most important pieces of land in the US. DC home of the 50 somewhat presidents we went through and NEW YORK CITY for the financial part of the world. New Hampshire is also important its the home of FIRST. w/o FIRST we'd probably pick up a boring hobby. What better way to spend free / personal time then to work on a robot for International Robotics Competition.

Ian W. 27-08-2002 22:43

can't forget that the nation was run from NY (the state) for some time. Washinton DC wasn't always there ;).

Jon K. 27-08-2002 22:46

When was the country run from New York it went from Philedelphia to D.C. I don't remember hearing about Neww York in there in history class.

Collin Fultz 27-08-2002 23:04

i <3 indiana. it's so boring that you can get comfy and just as soon as you get used to the season, it changes.

plus without indiana...there'd be no team 71/45/234 etc etc etc

Rick 27-08-2002 23:22

rhode island

no one has mentioned rhode island. I guess since were so small everone forgot. Without us how could you measure the size of certain countries, cities (Los angelas is actually bigger than all of rhode island), and icebergs. We also have the longest official name Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. Everyone here complains about leaving the state and have no clue how big the rest of the states are. Masachusett drivers keep invading and causing accidents. weve got casinos galore next to us in connecticut. and who else has a rooster for a state bird?

Stay in NH. Don't come to CA (it's Cali, not Cally). We don't need any idiots like you out here. As for California... we have beaches, lakes, mountains, flatlands, deserts, snow, National Parks, etc. You name it we have it. What's more, pretty much all of the major cities in CA don't get cooler than 65 degrees in the winter. Take that NH. Owned...

<edit>
MattK,
Don't post so much. Unless you want the rest of us to think even less of you. There's absolutely no reason for you to post 7 times in this thread. Especially immediately after a post written by yourself. Grow up kid.

So far i don't think anyone has said PA, excluding philly. I've driven through it a bunch of times and its very boring. Cornm trees, dorn, corn, house, tree, corn, corn, corn. But Philly is gonna be home si guess i can hate it right away.

SlamminSammy 28-08-2002 00:46

So are we in agreement that the Dakotas can go? Maybe we could combine them w/ Montana and Wyoming and just have one very big boring state.

fast frank 28-08-2002 00:46

up-state NY. it's a completely different state than Long Island and NYC.

i personally think that Long Island is the greatest place. our winters are cold, but not too cold, our summers are hot, but not too hot. we have miles and miles of beaches. go west over a bridge and your in the greatest city in the world.

yeah, except for taxes....

imho that upstate NY is great. i love the outdoors and such. i also used to live in woodstock, ny, so that may have something to do with my love for rural NY :p

Jon K. 28-08-2002 06:37

Hey I don't get why you guys dont like the Dakotah's that much I personally didn't have a problem with south, but i have never been to North Dakotah.

ChrisH 28-08-2002 10:59

Having been to all 48 contiguous states, I'd like to add the following comments:

Florida is a sandbar with trees, and about as useful. It's best for doing things that might cause a lot of damage if something went wrong. Like launching rockets or testing jet engines. If you do it there you don't have to worry about damaging something important.

New York might be a nice place, if you got rid of the city of the same name.

Massachusets should change it's name from "the Commonwealth of" to "the People's Republic of"

The best thing about working in Rhode Island is you can live out of state.

Louisiana is so humid, you go to Florida and say "but it's a dry heat"

Texas is a land of extremes, either it's so dry nobody can live there, or it's so humid nobody can live there. But the worst thing about Texas is the people who move away and then can't shut up about how great it is there. If it is so great, then why did they move in the first place?

The Interstate across Kansas is 420 miles long. 20 miles come from the curves they put in the road to keep you from falling asleep, in the daytime.

If I worked at it I could probably come up with snide remarks about any state, even the two I haven't been to, but then this post would be far too long. I've just hit my personal "low lights" here.

The interesting thing to me is that wherever you go, you can always find people who will tell you "This is God's country". It just goes to show that there's a place for every taste. Either that or some people are really weird.

KevK 28-08-2002 14:30

RHODE ISLAND!!!!!!

I have lived in Rhode Island my whole life and it's the best! We have more corrupt politicians in RI than the rest of the country, and it's great leaving New England and telling people you're from RI some people thinks it's part of NY. The name Rhode Island is actually the name of the biggest Island in the state, the mainland w/ Providence is the Providence Plantations part of the name. and we do have more than one island, about 5 or 6. just to let everyone know who thinks RI isn't actually an island. Yeah and who has ever had coffee milk? it's our official state drink, coffee syrup and milk, good stuff!! i might bring some to the MD state fair. for people to try. some people in TX even use to measure the size of their ranches.

Kyle Fenton 28-08-2002 15:16

I have been to a limited amount of states, but I have to say that Arkansas is the worst I have been too. The caves and wildlife were cool, but you felt that you were transported back to the 1800's

Rhode Island is cool. I have lived here my whole life, and overall it is a great place to live. We might not have everything, but we are next to everything.

Anne George 28-08-2002 16:54

the way I see it NH is the worst state that I know of. other than Dean and First It has got to be the most boring state that I have ever been to.

MissInformation 28-08-2002 23:09

I've lived in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, Arizona, Maryland and Virginia. Probably the most boring place was Arizona, we lived in the middle of nowhere and it was completely flat with almost no vegetation. It was a squalid little place, with an open sewer gully running out front of the houses (which looked a bit like trailers, but they were actually houses). I remember there being a dead cow laying in the gully for weeks one time... But I don't think I'll judge Arizona as a horrible place just on that one location. I guess they're all horrible in some ways, and great in others.

I don't think I could ever live in West Virginia, there's too many jokes out about it...

Since I'm asking I will start by saying Hawaii !!

Jessica L. 31-08-2002 22:55

I personally think that FL is the best. It's always hot and it's really nice, and I just down right love it there!

I think Arizona is really bad because there is NO grass. I went out there and we didn't see grass for a long time till we passed a football field that had pretty green grass and we were all makin a big deal out of it *actually I think some people might have taken a picture...* Then there's Penn. It's SO big. We drove from south to north and it took FOREVER. When we finally got in New York everybody *church youth group* was cheering. I'm thinkin we won't visit any states bigger than that. hehehe...We South Carolinians are weird...I know. At least we have a beautiful state though :)

It would have to be some place with mountains. I'm sure Hawaii is beautiful, but I need my mountains (I think I chose the college I went to because it was so close to the mountains), and I want those mountains to have trees with red, yellow, orange, and brown leaves in the Autumn, and snow in the winter... Yep, mountains.
