Favorite philosopher?

Who's your favorite philosopher, of any kind?

And they don't even have to be commonly thought of as a philosopher...

I'd have to go with Nietzshe, but I'm really weird.

(Sorry Rick, it's late, and I forgot... :()

Soren Kierkegaard "To dare is to lose one's footing momentarily. Not to dare is to lose oneself. "

And though you won't find him listed as a philosopher in most places but I don't see a difference between him and these others, Eric Hoffer (who wrote a lot about why people join mass movements and the nature of fanatics): "What monstrosities would walk the streets were some people's faces as unfinished as their minds."

And my all time favorite: Calvin and Hobbes "What's the point of wearing your favorite rocketship underpants if nobody ever asks to see 'em?"

Here you go! :D

Anyway, I will go with Hideaki Anno, creator of the anime series Evangelion. The story from Evangelion was great and taught me a couple of things about mythology, religion, and philosopy. If you want to see a great story and learn mythology, religion, and philosopy I would sugest you watch Hideaki Anno greatest anime, Evangelion.

That guy named Anonymous seemed to have a lot of good stuuf to talk about. Really though I'd have to go with Spencer Johnson autor of "who moved my cheese"

"When you move beyond your fear you feel free"

I didn't know Schopenhauer was a philosopher!

Yeah! He's the one that begins with an "S"!

Do all philosophers begin with an "S"?

Yeah! I think they do!

JRR Tolkien had some very philisophical lines in his books.

Many who live deserve death, and many have died who deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then be not too eager to deal out death in the name of justice, because even the Wise cannot see all ends. -- Gandalf, LotR

another quote i like, though it may be more of a political philosophy...

The government that governs best governs least. -- Thomas Jefferson

and for the most profound line in the history of cinema, just read my signature =-]

It depends on how you mean "philosopher". I pulled this from the dictionary 1 a : a person who seeks wisdom or enlightenment : SCHOLAR, THINKER

By that definition, we are all philosophers. We all think, we (well, most of us) seek wisdom. I know I do.

So, my favorite thinker would have to be Dean Kamen himself.

I was aware of this. Philosoph, simply, means "lover of wisdom/knowledge". I was curious as to whether anyone would point this out, and then make the connection to all of us.

We participate in FIRST oriented activities voluntarilly, and I assume that in doing so we are all learning, gathering knowledge. We are all lovers of knowledge and wisdom, therefore we are all philosophs, however, it all depends on your interpretation of the word...

/me wanders off...
