This depends on your definition of "deep". There's great teams for sure, but once you get to the second round the firepower goes waayyyyy down. Typically that doesn't happen as much in "deep" events

The firepower goes down in some championship sub divisions as well. His point was the amount of elite/upper tier bots at this regional are high and compared to some championship divisions, waterloo may have more elite/upper tier bots I think. Obviously you can't compare a regional with 30 robots and a championship division with 75 robots fairly, there will be differences such as what you mentioned with 2nd picks.

I mean that's true, but I would describe Waterloo as "top heavy". My point was more that the teams second and third picks in any subdivision are more competitive than the second picks at waterloo

The other thing is that there are teams in that second tier of teams, like 865, that would be a high seed and have a very good shot of putting together a competitive alliance at a lot of weaker events with less elite machines.

This has been a very peculiar Semifinals.

Agreed. The last couple seconds of SF 2-1 were kind of horrifying though.
Those alliances were insanely well-balanced though. 2-2 should be extremely fun to watch.

What is going on? The semis seem very exciting. Can someone explain why the top 2 alliances have struggled so far in semis?

Well, in SF1-1, 1114 went from Simbotic to Simdead for basically the match.
In SF2-1, 5032 punted 148 off the bar, basically costing them the match.

Costing them the match seems a little misleading -- if 5032 had made it onto the batter without knocking down 148 and securing the capture, their score would have been 45 points higher, whereas the game margin was 50 -- but certainly devastating nonetheless.

Aaaaaand now the comebacks, as alliances 1 & 2 win their respective semi-2 matches. Down to the wire in both of them, 2.

WATER WATER WATER!

Edit: Oh God, Karthik is kicking the walls again...
