Here's a view of our chassis with a side plate and a wheel pulled off. More to come soon.

That looks neat! What made you choose gears over chains/belts?
Edit: Just showed this to a mentor. Are you afraid your frame might bend a little after a few matches, causing your gears to eat eachother? |
Re: 4296 Trident Robotics Teaser
That gearing is impressive. What is the gearing ratio?

Actually does not weight that much more than normal, I'll have to weigh it next time I'm there. the gears are made of aluminum with a ceramic coating, if those don't work we are easily able to switch to a steel set however then it would be incredibly heavy. They chose the gears over belts because the gears were more compact than running multiple runs of chains or belts, and didn't interfere with our "lifted" wheel set up. We like more compact especially since we are building a low bar bot. We've considered the chassis bending, so we added in the design extra cross bracing not in the picture as well as all the churros to support the side plates. See you guys at Midwest and Central IL. It shall be good fun.
