Thanks for your offer of assistance :D ! . We actually solved this issue earlier this morning (little past 12) we had plugged in too many controllers of different kinds, and they were locked into the DS even though they weren't plugged in, which prevented us from using the ones we just plugged in. We found this: http://goo.gl/ESMjln
and under "Re-Arranging and Locking Devices" which helped us with this.

We use a real flight controller for driving alongside a GameCube controller for operating.
