Yeah, a bunch of us FIRST'ers ran into him at the segway exhibit, after the nationals, and I used the opportunity to get his "signature."

sanddrag 11-09-2002 22:28

He came to all the pits in LA regional and signed our robot.

D.J. Fluck 13-09-2002 10:36

Back during the 2000 GLR Regional, Dean signed my Technokats Bandanna that we had that year....Ill upload a picture once I get some batteries for my camera

evulish 13-09-2002 15:41

Has he ever come to Rutgers? Seems like his brother is there a bit.

He was _tentatively_ scheduled to show up at the NE Robot Challenge or whatever. No show.

Ashley Weed 13-09-2002 16:18

hehehe, at the Robot Challenge, I traded a shirt with someone from MOE and it was autographed I think by Dean.

Wayne C. 13-09-2002 18:13

The last time I remember seeing Dean or Woody at Rutgers was 2000 (?) and then only briefly. They seem to visit the regionals needing a big boost or where the press is most likely to attend
But we have Bart Kamen and he is just as good!

BTW- there will be a new venue for Rutgers this year and probably a much larger regional. : )

Ashley Weed 13-09-2002 22:05

YIPPEE!! I can't wait for Rutgers, the venue should be SWEET! :) Perhaps we will see Dean or Woodie at the Annapolis Regional?

Stephanie 14-09-2002 18:24

two of the mom's on our team made special jungle print shirts for the crew that went to nationals this year. i covered the back with team buttons, and when dean came on his segway, with the media all around him, he stopped right in front of our pit. he signed one shoulder of my shirt, and pictures were taken. later, we were walking thru the pits, and i saw woody, with, like, three or four people standing around him. i ran to pit admin, grabbed a sharpie, and ran back. he signed my other sleeve. i flaunted that shirt like there was no better thing in the world. one guy on my team said the only signature that mattered was deans, and i bit his head off :-D

Rob Ribaudo 14-09-2002 19:14

I had my shirt signed by Dean Kamen at the New York City Regional. Also when I he signed my shirt, he signed my team 810 card I had. :)

Dostie350 15-09-2002 20:52

yea team 350 has some really cool homade shirts

(iron-ons)[font=arial][color=royalblue]:D

R Bohannan 18-09-2002 15:26

We had our "wrench" signed by Dean. Unfortunately with all the clanging, it has rubbed off. Guess we'll have to try for another signature next year.

Kristina 18-09-2002 15:36

Dean, Woody, and Jeff Besoz (of Amazon.com) signed all of our visors and last year Jeb bush signed one of teammates (who happens to be obsessed with politics by the way) shirt. i doubt he's washed it since then, lol

Renzorocks 18-09-2002 15:40

Dean and Woody signed my shirt @ the Virginia Regional :)

MattK 18-09-2002 19:52

Libby Kamen drew me a picture of the segway and signed it. Its really cool!

:)

Madison 18-09-2002 20:39

Who's Libby Kamen?

Dean's mom?

MattK 18-09-2002 21:06

nope, his neice!

mtaman02 18-09-2002 21:46

now i remember this year i had my shirt signed by both dean and bart and the year before our team had our wrench that we used often to tune up the robot also autographed. in a way it was a mistake to have it autographed b/c we needed that wrench later on in the day and couldn't use it because it was blest by dean. so NYC Reg 2001 - Wrench was signed
NYC Reg 2002 - Just about every team members shirt. and operator buttons !

MikeFromTeam71 21-09-2002 13:11

i got my hat and my shirt signed by dean during the mandy moore concert at nationals. it was awesome!! my first year on a robotics team and i got my shirt signed by dean!! i was and still am happy. i also got woody and dave the announcer to sign my hat!!

GoDaisy341 23-09-2002 20:34

Re: shirts

Yeah mine is signed by Mr. Flowers and... shoot I just saw Mr. Lavery at VCU and forgot to ask him! Darn it, either I get him to sign it a VCU next year or I'm going to have to drive out to Herndon! :yikes:

The Cyborg 07-03-2006 21:56

Re: shirts

I don't have a T-shirt that is signed, but I do have a homemade cape that was signed by Woodie Flowers, and two band members from Dean Simmons and the Kamens. The cool machine shop guy that is on our (and on the martians) team also signed it. :)

My middle names is flowers. I wonder if i am somehow related to woody.

Re: shirts

I printed out the picture in my WAI and had it signed last week at BAE.
Last year, our team shirts were black, so I got some white sticker paper, had him sign that, and then stuck it to my shirt :D

Re: shirts

Shirts? Where is the originality? I got my umbrella hat signed by the trio (Dean, Dave, Woodie) at the NH Kickoff. Great experience, and it was fun watching them sign an awkward shaped object. It is great to have them around these events and talking to the teams, even a short conversation with any of these three is a memory for a lifetime. I feel blessed because of who all I have been able to meet through FIRST (not just the big names, but also friends). Hmmm... I think there might be enough room on the umbrella hat for a drawn picture of a Segway ;) ha ha.

Re: shirts

In the 2004 season, we were lining up our robot, and we asked Dean to point out where the line was. Somebody took a photograph of this, and we put a laminated picture of Dean Kamen's hand on our robot.
