What's your wallpaper/screensaver?

This topic has come up in a couple of other forums I belong to and it's been interesting to see and hear about what people use as their computer wallpaper and screensavers. On the photography forum, everyone used photographs they had taken, and on the Decades forum, they mostly used what came with the computer or something they had downloaded from the Net.

So, what does everyone use here? My screensaver is a bunch of photos I've taken and my wallpaper (which I change every couple of months) is this photo I recently took:

dreaming of flight

Come on, it's show and tell time!

Mine is odd.

It's a nice photograph. The Space Shuttle is cool. I'm particularly enamored with it, but it was an interesting background.

When I find a better photo of a roller coaster, I'll replace this ;)

SETI is awesome!

Rob Ribaudo 15-09-2002 14:53

My wallpaper is a few pictures together. The back is a scene from the anime Love Hina. I put this up at the end of last school year when I was having many test. It would remind me to get of my computer and study. :) Then during the begianing of the summer I was playing Solitaire alot, so I put some of my good games onto my wallpaper. ;)
I am thinking of changing my wallpaper soon for the new school year, but until then, This is what I have.

Ian W. 15-09-2002 15:01

This rather interesting that this topic came up when it did...

For a while, I've been using Digital Blasphemy pictures ( www.digitalblasphemy.com ), but just last night, Michael put this link ( http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/ ) up in tigerbolt, and naturally i clicked on it :p. i found a really cool, and rather simple landscape program. so, with just playing around, i made a few shots. you can see them at http://wolos.d2g.com:89/terrainpics . be forwarned, some pictures are kinda big (3 MB for an 1152x864 render), so if you're on dialup, you may want to go and get a snack while you wait for it to download :D.

i don't know, but i kinda like the renders i've made. it's just kind of fustrating how long it takes to render some (so far, i've had one go for 2 hours and 15 minutes, while i slept). otherwise, i like playing around and making pics like this.

Jack 15-09-2002 15:30

my wallpaper is a arial pic of my house from mapquest.com

Clark Gilbert 15-09-2002 16:06

Terragen!!

I'm like Ian on this one...i made my own wallpaper using Terragen.....this is the one i'm using right now, it's ok but not the best since i just started using this last night...

Rob Colatutto 15-09-2002 16:25

those arial photos have to be at least a year and a half old. our school hasn;t looked like that in a really long time, and a lot of roads by me aren't there. hehe

Ashley Weed 15-09-2002 16:49

I have been using this one for a while. In Feb. it only had pictures of build season, then after each competition, I add more pictures too it, and take some out. Currently I only have one from NASA/MD, but hope to be adding more soon.

Terragen seems really cool so I just downloaded it. But, I am so confused. Can some one give me a few pointers to get me started on a landscape?

this is my walpaper, but i use the flying through space screensaver (still the best and always will be)

ECarlson 15-09-2002 22:45

And, for my screensaver, I just have the monitor turn off after 20 minutes. Why have a screen saver, when nobody is there to see it?

Also, I wouldn't want a screen saver to start up and waste CPU cycles while I am running an operation like a hard drive defrag.

Jon Lawton 15-09-2002 22:53

No image. XSetRoot to solid black.

No screensaver. Screen blanking in some time-interval I don't rember.

My mom doesn't like it... she says it makes it look like the computer is "off."

Wetzel 15-09-2002 23:29

Wallpaper? Who actually sees their wall paper? I rarely do, I just have stuff open. But It is mostly black, and I can see the edges where I have the icons. Anywho, this is it.

Its only 1024x768 but with background set to black, it looks fine.
Screensavers are silly.
Monitor off 20 minutes.

Currently, at work just a black background. The reason being so I can see when people try to sneak up on me.

At home just a customized version of the editable bitmap that you make in windows for the background.

Great idea for a thread, Heidi! =D I usually have something related to FIRST, but my theme is pretty much purple right now, so yeah. That's what I wanted my desktop picture to be.
As for my screensaver, my favorite band (er, one of them) is ABBA, a 70s group. So I went to their website, and I picked out this
screensaver. It's an awesome one, better than the other ones they have on that site. *cringe*. Who knows, I'll see if I can make a FIRST one. =) Hmmmmm...*adds to her list of things to do*
Teehee...

Re: What's your wallpaper/screensaver?

My background is my who-I-am picture. It is centered in the middle since it doesn't take up the whole screen...which is also good, because my icons don't interefere with the picture at all. No screensaver.

Screensaver? Hah! Screensavers only take power away from working on dnet stuff. (I am, however, considering making the switch to some other project...just dunno which one yet.)

As for wallpaper, http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/pi...&quiet=Verbose is my main whip. (Say, I wonder if I can get that wallpaper with the brown-eyed version of Dave...)

Re: What's your wallpaper/screensaver?

I have a different screensaver on each computer. The desktop I'm on now has the clock floating around.
My other desktop has a Peta Wilson screensaver. This is the blonde (Nikita) from LaFemme Nikita the U.S.A. network series that was on a few years ago.
Not to forget about the redheads, I have a Laura Prepon screensaver on my "good" laptop. Laura plays 'Donna Pinciotti' on "That 70's Show". This is her as a redhead and not a blonde as she's been on the most recent episodes.
My "second" laptop, the one I bought off Ebay to use for robotics, has the website for our team floating around the screen........with a twist. I did it in the Buffy font so it looks like it's scrawled across the screen.

My screensaver is the default Windows XP one...I don't care to change it.

** No, I'm not running *nix...just Windows XP. It's that my Graphics card/driver (NVIDIA) lets you set something up like *nix [Linux, Unix, etc...] **

I plan on changing my wallpaper REALLY soon though.

I have a few I go between ...

This one is Justin, from the TV show Queer as Folk.

Marshmallows. Who doesn't love marshmallows? :p

A picture of a waterfall , somewhere in the UP (between Houghton and Copper Harbor). I took this one, and am quite fond of it!

This one is kinda neat ... My uncle and a few of his cousins went to Ireland a couple years back. This is the house his grandparents (my great-grandparents) lived in before they came to America. There's a neat story involving that house, their coming to America and the Titanic, too!

And, of course, this one usually comes up every few weeks or so. ;)
