Business Competition

Evenin. I'm new to my high school's robotics team, and I was recruited for the sole purpose of finishing the business plan aspect of the competition. Unfortunately my advisor totally lacks any of the information. Go figure. If anyone could point me in the right direction for info, it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not so sure of exactly what you are asking.

Kleiner-Perkins Caufield Award

What is being asked is the following:

1) Does anyone know what the criteria were for winning the Kleiner-Perkins Caufield Award for 2002 , other than what is stated in the FIRST manual.

2) Also has any team out there won the Kleiner-Perkins Caufield Award and if so, what do you think influenced the judges decision.

I have asked this question directly of FIRST, but have received no reply. If anyone could answer this question it might help all teams that are interested in presenting a strong business plan. Thanks for your help.

Our team won the national Kleiner-Perkins Caufield (and Byers I think) Award, so you might be interested in our story. As the manual says you have to show an aspect of buisness and your team. Well the aspect that our team showed was teamwork. We did this through sprouting other teams. Everyone here is probably thinking, hey we start new teams, how come we didn't get the award. Well what we did was mentor (thats mentor, not just start) at least one new team each year besides our rookie year. We started one lego league team and have a plan to start a lego league team in all the elementary schools in our school district this year(I believe that is around 12 schools). The clincher was that last year we voluntarily gave up our primary sponsor (of both money and facility) Delphi to one of the local area schools so that they could get started. Everyone always rolls their eyes when we say this and think that its a hoax of some sort. Well, we didn't have any backup sponsors lined up after them and we definately had a decline in competitive performance this year because of this.

As you can see I am very proud of all the teams that we have started (especially the Delphi Demons) and the award that we have received. I hope this helps you.

Thanks!!

Don:

I really admire what your team has done. That must have been a tough year for you guys. You deserve more than an award. I also appreciate your help with this question. Best of luck this year.
