Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
Digging the hang. Can you relaunch if you happen to miss? What's the mechanism used to launch the grappling hook?
Very cool! |
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
Mind blown :ahh:
|
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
Was wondering what Einstein play was going to look like ;)
|
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
Always the best release videos, and robot. Can't wait to see it in person.
#suchscaling #sopackaging Well done! |
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
Someone finally did a grappling hook :)

Yep....that's a good robot. Would expect nothing less. Nice work!
|
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
118, thank you for consistently beating my unreasonably high expectations for your robots!
"Woo-hoo!". Hope I get to see this one up close at CMP again! |
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
oh em gee, great job!!
|
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
Love the scaling device always a robot that inspires the robotics community
|
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
I was expecting a swiss knife from 118...
|
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
JJ Watt!!!
|
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
One of my favorite teams and consistently my favorite reveal video every season.
It's impressive enough now, but when you can shoot over and tackle the REAL JJ Watt that'll be something to see  |
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
WOW! Awesome robot you guys. We'll be looking forward to competing against you at Toronto East in a couple weeks
|
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
Nice job
|
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
Wait, I thought low bar robots were gonna get blocked?
|
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
So far, I've seen two Juggernauts unveil their robots.
Pneumatic Catapults Baby!! That grappling hook. What a way to save on weight AND utilize practically a zero envelope! |
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
![]() Great job guys! |
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
Just wow next on my list of teams I can't wait to see 1114 254 and 2056

Now it's time to prototype some grappling hooks. |
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
Great robot!
I wonder if it can shoot to the low goal once it got the ball inside the shooter. |
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
Definitely my favorite reveal so far! A robot that features a catapult, ballista, and siege machine all at once, plus more! Also, I really like the gold and white painted mecanum wheels.

I did NOT expect a grappling hook from 118.
Everything else, well, yeah. Good luck this year guys. Best bot I've seen so far. -364 |
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
I'm geeking out hardcore over that climber. Awesome job!
|
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
Just when I thought we were done with harpoons...

Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
Is that grappling hook legal? I thought I remembered something last year about grappling hook can-burglars not being allowed.
Is this safe??? Projectile robot components? My team decided against it only because we didn't want to run into Robot Inspectors that wouldn't let us play due to safety concerns. Everyone we talked to said it wouldn't pass. Kinda miffed if we coulda gone with it all along. |

It does not state anywhere in the rules that you can't have a projectile. |
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
Woah guys. Way to go. I had a notification pop up when it was released and I had a beautiful surprise after school, so thank you!
Another amazing lo-bar robot that combines speed with accurate shooting. Also, the most creative solution to hanging I've seen (and I've seen A LOT). I will be paying attention to how this robot does, but I think we have yet another top tier robot from a top tier team. 1114 and 254, the time is now... |

Also, doesn't their climb system violate the bumper rules?
Edit: not the actual climb system, but it appears their bumpers are no longer in the bumper zone while climbing. |

Only question I have is the projectile nature of it. |
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
Great job as always guys! Wish we could travel to Texas to come play. Hopefully at Championships we will see yinz!

The projectile hook does look a bit dangerous. Not sure what safety measures have been implemented. Hoping no one gets hurt!

I seem to remember another mechanism of 118s that was deemed illegal in the past. I suspect this one will be OK.

Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
Add me to the "stunned" list on that reveal. An amazing robot.
But about the 34'th time watching it, I'm seeing that WALL OF BLUE BANNERS and the space you are playing in. Can you post a few words on where that is? That has got to be the nicest practice space I've ever seen. At the 0:43 second mark there are some pretty neat vehicles in the background. |
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
We built a robot. You jokers built a swiss army knife.
|
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
Surprising that their choice of a climber looks like it could easily exceed the 15" protrusion limit.
Guess they don't plan on missing. |
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
Wow! This is really the best robot I've seen so far this year! :D I hope to see it in person. ;)

The concern is that the rotation of their robot goes far enough from horizontal that their hook is outside 15" the (newly rotated) frame perimeter. |
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
I am blown away by this robot from newcomers 118118-- I didn't even know numbers went that high!
Seriously though, that's a cool robot. Hopefully I'll get a chance to see that grappling hook up close. 118 never fails to impress. |

I would wager a team of 118s caliber has tested try robot enough to feel confident in their implementation. |

It didn't look like there was a mechanism on that would even potentially be removed like previous years.
Climber (2013) super twisty claw (2015) That is an awesome robot. |
Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2016 Video
At second 0:47 what lands on the batter next to the robot? Looks like a piece of bungee

I see springs and pneumatic cylinders on the catapult, but I'm not really sure how they work together to launch the boulders. Any ideas?
