Kickoff is over.. now what?
 

Welcome to the new teams that we (team 247) saw at the kickoff, and it was great to see many of the veterans there also.

As was with all other years, pneumatics will be used more and more in OCCRA, any future CDI, FIRST, and any other robotics competitions your team may enter. This can put your team at a big disadvantage if you don't have the knowledge to properly circut a pneumatic system.

The solution?

SMC's crash course training book. Last year, members of team 247 visited the SMC branch in Rochester Hills and we each recieved one. Whether or not we have any left, (I have my copy, which is readable but in poor condition due to 8 months in a car trunk), but I spoke with Mr. McInyre about calling SMC and trying to get a manual or two for each team. He told me to photocopy one that we have, but, every page states 'DO NOT PHOTOCOPY WITHOUT WRITTEN PERMISSION.' Although they are free, aparently SMC wants to know who has them.

I'll go between Mr. McIntyre and SMC to attempt to get an official copy or two for each team in OCCRA when kit B comes.

Our pneumatics guru, Dave Johnson, has been out of town this week and returns on Friday the 20th; please don't start calling SMC on your own! We will be in contact with Dave and will let you know ASAP if SMC will go along with Gadget247's proposed idea.

SMC Permission
 

I have spoken with Dave Johnson from SMC and he said, on behalf of SMC, that he gives all OCCRA teams permission to copy the SMC Pneumatics training materials that he passed out at the workshop, for use in educating OCCRA teams about pneumatics. He is preparing a letter that states this, and I will give a copy to any OCCRA team that requests it.
