Top 5 teams for your state over the last 4 years

I asked some of my friends this question a little over a week ago, and got some really interesting answers. I’ll start with MN.

1. 2052: 2052 has been a local powerhouse for the last four years, and always finds a way to win. Just look at what they have done over the last 4 years, and I’m sure you will see why they are number 1 on my list.
2. 2175: 2175 has built a top 3 robot in MN for 3 out of the last 4 years, and even with a down year in 2015, still finished as a top 10 robot in MN.
3. 1816: They’re what every local powerhouse team should be; they build very solid robots, but what makes 1816 stand out is there dedication for inspiring kids.
4. 2512: Another team that always seems to build high quality robots year and year out. I can’t wait to see what you guys built this year.
5. 4536: Being such a young team makes them even more impressive. They seem to understand the little things it takes to win better than any other team in MN. I have been very impressed with this team over the last couple of years.

Re: Top 5 teams for your state over the last 4 years

top 2 in WA no doubt:

1983 (Skunkworks)
1318 (IRS)

Past here its hard to have a definite placing of teams, but 4061 (SciBorgs) 3663 (CPR) and 1595 (Dragons) are teams that should be looked at.

Edit: I Totally blanked 2046 and 2557, they are definitely up there.

Using purely MAR Ranking Points, the top five teams over the past four years (since MAR began in 2012) are:

1. 2590
2. 1218
3. 225
4. 1676
5. 11

However, it's a close race, especially between ranks 4 and 9. Data taken from this Google Doc created by Scott Meredith.

NY - No real stand out "Powerhouse" teams other then 20 but, there are a lot of mid to top tier teams around the state.

1. 20 Regional winners in 2012, 2013, 2014x2, along with an Einstein Appearance last year.
2. 329 Regional Finalist in 2012. EI winners in 2012, 2014, and 2015 and Regional winners in 2013, and 2014.
3. 694 Regional Finalists in 2015, winners in 2013, and chairmans award winners in 2012.
4. 1796 - Regional Winners in 2012, 2013, and 2015 along with multiple imagery awards.
5. 2869 - Regional Winners in 2016, and 2017.

Texas:

1. 118 - They did pretty well last year I think (and every year for that matter).
2. 148 - Consistently one of the best robots in FRC.
3. 624 - A Texas powerhouse that gets better every year.
4. 1477 - Back to back Einstein appearances in 2013 and 2014.
5. 1296 - They just keep getting better and better.

Don't forget about 2481, they're amazing yet nobody outside the midwest seems to have heard of them. Einstein appearance in 2014, and could have easily been there again last year.

Well, since we only have 6 teams in our state, it's kind of hard to do this.

I'll do 3.

1. 364
2. 1421
3. 456

Honestly, they should have been there last year. They were dominant. 2 event wins after ranking #1 and #1 in Tesla.

I remember 3476 code orange from 2013 in the Newton division and they've been doing super well ever since they won Newton that year. Definitely does deserve to be top 10 in California.

Re: Top 5 teams for your state over the last 4 years

All of these are my opinion and are at least somewhat objectively decided :P

1)1983 - I don't think they've ever been the absolute best robot in any one of those years (one could make an argument for 2015), but they have been top 3 every single one of those years. They always make quality stuff.
2)1318 - their 2012 robot was ok, 2013 should have gone to worlds, 2014 they were the best in state, and 2015 one could again make an argument for best in state
3)2471 - Swerve is cool, and they use it ever so well. Tend to come up with unique and creative designs that work well
4)2046 - Best robot in the state in 2012, solid design in 2014, and a very successful year in 2015 with an ok robot. 2013 was a bit of an off year, despite giving us 2 blue banners :v
5) uhhhh... 360/2557/3663/488/2907/1595 - there's too many strong teams left and not enough places to put them, and I can't really single one out as significantly better than the others

Also oregon, because go PNW region!
1)4488 - And they didnt even exist in 2012!
2)1425
3)955
4)1540
5)2550

Which team from Rochester are you talking about? If it is you I wouldn't really classify you as a "top" team despite your regional win in 2013 and upper seeds in 2014 and 2015.

I should go out and say I do not know too much about the upstate teams. So I am sorry if I left out a few. I tried to choose teams that had multiple regional wins in the last 4 years.

Wow, this is a hard question to answer, so many good teams in Michigan, and they sustain their success too. But here is an effort at it:

1) 33
2) 469
3) 67
4) 2337
5) 1023

This list does not do these teams justice, as they are also REALLY good: 314, 27, 548, 573, 68, 862, 51, 2834, 494, 70, 503, 2054, 2959, 3098, 1918, 3539, 1718.

Both those teams have 2 regional wins in the last year and everyone on my list either has that or better. Again I do not know those teams personally as I live in the LI, NYC bubble. So, I encourage you to make more accurate lists based on the better teams upstate.

Re: Top 5 teams for your state over the last 4 years

NH:
1) 1519-Obvious choice. Won an event every year except 2014, where they were finalists twice. Was one of the top robots in the world in 2012 and 2015, and was a win away from a world championship in 2013.
2) 3467-Only five years old, but they've come up quickly. A solid robot in 2012, and then three amazing robots from 2013-2015, and a trip to Einstien in 2014.
3) 131- A regional win in 2012 and many deep elimination runs in 2013 and 2014. A down year in 2015 but still a very strong team out of NH over the last 4 years.
4) 1058- (obvious bias) 2014 and 2015 were very good years, and 2012-2013 were years that started out rough but got a lot better throughout the season.
5) 319- 2014 was very solid. 2015 they were arguably the best machine in the state after district champs. 2012 and 2013 were decent.

Very large gap between the top 3 and the rest of the state. 2342 and 138 are both teams that have a had a few good years lately and could easily move onto this list with another good year. 1073, 811 and 213 are also improving dramatically since I started FRC.

As a MAR alum, my top five for NJ would be:
1. 2590
2. 11/193
3. 1676
4. 303
5. 1403

For PA:
1. 1640
2. 225
3. 1218
4. 341
5. 2607

It was really hard to pick such a short list, there are a ton of amazing teams in MAR! The caliber of competition always blows me away.

As a recent New York transplant, my top 3 from my limited experience here:
1. 20
2. 5254
3. 694

Connecticut:

1. 2067, good ol' Apple Pi always comes up with consistent and effective designs. Gotta love that swerve from recent years. Won NECMP with them last year. Their mentor who yodels in the stands is pretty great too.

2. 230, the Gaelhawks continue to bring impressive machines to the competition year after year. Had fun winning Hartford with them last year.

3. 177, unfortunately the Bobcats had a bit of a rough 2015 season, but from what I've seen of their bot this year so far, I'm expecting a mighty comeback from the two-time world champs.

4. 175, Buzz were district finalists last year, killed it in 2014, and had a good 2013 season as well. Happy a team like them hails from CT.

5. Hard to pick just one more for this list so I'll just include 4055, 228, 2168, 2170, and 2836 to wrap it up. I'm probably missing too many others, but that's what I've got for now.

Event wins aren't the only ways of judging teams, and can sometimes be misleading since not all events are created equal. For example winning TVR as a NY team can be seen as more difficult than other NY regionals since 195 came last year and won and 359 is coming this year. Actually knowing the robots beyond the results is important. 340 and 1511 have built really well designed robots over the last 4 years and are also great teams off the field, each winning multiple chairmans awards.

Agreed It is much easier to win NYC or SBPLI then TVR or FLR. I personally want to try to get up to TVR this year to get a better sense of NY's entire FRC community.

Re: Top 5 teams for your state over the last 4 years

Since South Carolina has played its only official event of 2016 featuring all but three teams (281, 1293, and 1319 are playing elsewhere), I'm defining four years as 2013-2016.

1) 4451, undisputed. Palmetto, Orlando, and Newton RAS in 2013, went back-to-back winning Palmetto in 2015 and 2016 (only three teams have), Palmetto EI in 2016, Palmetto WFFA in 2014, SCRIW in 2015, Orlando finalist in 2013 and 2015, and that's just the tip of the iceberg about those guys.
2) 343. They had a dry spell after a heap of silver from 2010-2012, but in 2014 they started being contenders again, winning SCRIW and parlaying that into winning the final Peachtree Regional and getting silver again in their subdivision at Championship. They just got silver again at Palmetto yesterday, and they should be a threat in Huntsville.
3) 1319. Won Georgia Southern Classic last year, six UL Industrial Safety awards in three years (they haven't played yet this year), and several other judged awards.

I'd say there are three teams that have a legitimate claim to the last two spots, but which two depends on the lens through which you view them:
* 3490. Two-time SCRIW champions (2013 and 2014), Palmetto 2014 finalists, regularly in the conversation.
* 4073. Palmetto 2015 winner, 2016 quarterfinalist, two technical awards.
* 4901. Orlando 2014 winner (probably a higher-quality win than 4073's, given the game and the bracket), Palmetto 2016 Dean's List Finalist.

I wouldn't say that it's easier, considering that upstate teams rarely interact with Hudson Valley and NYC teams, but it's certainly a different playing field. Remember, TVR is usually just over HALF the size of NYC or SBPLI, making the technical chances much greater.

2. 230, the Gaelhawks continue to bring impressive machines to the competition year after year.

Shoutout to 3419 & 3950 for killing it last year and being future NY power houses!

Re: Top 5 teams for your state over the last 4 years

That's quite hard for my state, for everyone except three teams at our regional came from Missouri, not Kansas. Arguably, Shawnee Mission West (1777) really shouldn't have been on the winning alliance, but I'm glad they did, and I still love all the teams in our school district. I was going through our regional, and every single really good, powerhouse team, came from Missouri.
  1. 1710
  2. 2410
  3. 1810
  4. 935

1) 33
2) 469
3) 67
4) 2337
5) 1023

This list does not do these teams justice, as they are also REALLY good: 314, 27, 548, 573, 68, 862, 51, 2834, 494, 70, 503, 2054, 2959, 3098, 1918, 3539, 1718.

Some other great teams I'd include are 217, 1189, 1711, 2767, 2834, 4362, & 4967

Based in Total History the Ontario List goes:

1114
2056
610
1310
3683
1241 - minus last years bot
4039
and a whole lot more. with everyone chasing 1114 and 2056 on a regular basis Canada has arguably the deepest level of good teams.

Top 5 Teams for KS:
1. 935 - RaileRobotics - They always builds beautiful, effective robots that are a force to be reckoned with.
2. 1710 - Ravonics Revolution - This team is incredible on the field, but even more insane off the field. RCAs, Safety, Engineering Inspiration, this team does it all.
3. 1777 - Viking Robotics - Always building robots that are consistent and deceptively simple, not to mention their drive team having amazing horned hats.
4. 3172 - HorsePOWER - Another all around power team, with an RCA under their belt, they strive to be a model team both on the field and off the field.
5. 1802 - Team Stealth - True to their name, they usually fly under the radar at events, but their robots are always effective no matter what the game is, and generally find an aspect of the game and excel at it.

I should go out and say I do not know too much about the upstate teams. So I am sorry if I left out a few. I tried to choose teams that had multiple regional wins in the last 4 years.

2. 329 Regional Finalist in 2012.

I'm going to casually add 5254 to this list, because they're great. Also 340 if only for the impressive amount of Blue Banners they've received recently, and possibly 3171 for their LI wins in 2013 & 15 (and their great performance on our alliance in NYC last year).

My stab at Colorado will include only three, because they are consistently the best. There are other teams that are up and coming (the High Fives come to mind), and others with a history of consistency and tradition (159 and 662 particularly), but these three top my list.

2996, Cougars Gone Wired
1619, Up-A-Creek
4499, the Highlanders

I think a key is the last four years, in which case I would dispute putting 2337 in the top five. My top five Michigan teams in the last four years would be:

1) 469 (9 District Wins, 1 District Finalist, 2 State Championships, 2 Division Wins, 1 World Championship, 1 Einstein Finalist)
2) 67 (7 District Wins, 2 District Finalists, 1 State Championship, 2 State Finalists, 1 Division Win, 3 Division Finalists)
3) 33 (7 District Wins, 1 State Championship, 1 Division Win, 1 Division Finalist, 1 Einstein Finalist)
4) 1023 (7 District Wins, 1 State Championship, 1 Division Win)
5) 314 (5 District Wins, 2 District Finalists, 1 State Championship)

And then my top 4 Runners Up would be:

1918 (4 District Wins, 2 District Finalists, 1 Division Finalist)
2337 (4 District Wins, 2 District Finalists, 1 State Finalist)
1718 (3 District Wins, 1 State Finalist, 2 Division Finalists)
27 (6 District Finalists, 1 State Championship, 1 State Finalist, 2 Division Finalists)

4. 1477 - Back to back Einstein appearances in 2013 and 2014.
5. 1296 - They just keep getting better and better.

I would switch 1296 with 3310. While I agree with you that 1296 is getting better and better, 3310 has 4 regional wins while 1296 only has 1 in the last 4 years.

Re: Top 5 teams for your state over the last 4 years

Here's my list for Arizona:

1. 842 - 2015 marked the first year they didn't win a Regional since 2010, and part of that was due to an all in strategy on making their robot a super can-burgler for Champs since they prequalify as a HOF member. They were still a playoff staple as usual.

2. 2486 - They had an undefeated run on the way to a Regional win in 2014 along with a Finalist appearance in 2012. Meanwhile they have cleaned up on the culture award side, with one of the longest active Chairman's winning streaks in FIRST and an army of Dean's List Finalists and Winners. AZ North is sure to be a blast this year as they host a regional in their backyard for the first time.

3. 2403 - They've finished as either a Regional Winner or Finalist once every season from 2012 - 2015, and picked up a few EI wins along the way too. Of the teams on this list I know the least about them since their competitive rise started after I moved out of state, but I look forward to seeing more of their machines in person going forward.

4. 3944 - Two Regional wins in their first four years in FRC, and their Champs division win last year marked the first Einstein appearance by an AZ team since 60's run as an elite lap runner in 2008.

5. 1726 - One Regional win and two Finalist appearances from 2013 - 2015. Their robots aren't flashy but put their power-coated brethren to shame by quietly going about their business and never breaking.

Team 60 is a really close 6th on this list as they have 4 Regional Finalist finishes in the past 3 seasons and always build extremely competitive machines, but I couldn't put them ahead of teams that had a Regional win along with their Finalist appearances.

My list for California (not a top 5, just all the teams that jump right to mind, and it's in numerical order, so only the #1 team is ranked):

254
330
399
846
971
973
1323
1538
1671
1678

Re: Top 5 teams for your state over the last 4 years

Without counting us since I don't want to be biased:

1)60- Regardless of the fact that they haven't won a regional in the last four years, team 60 finds a way time and time again to make it very deep in eliminations and often into the finals. Whether they are having a good year or bad year, they always end up having a good showing.

2)3944- Since 2013, they are often underestimated in terms of how good their robot's are. In 2013 and 2015 they had solid robots and last year went all the way to Einstein.

3)4183- The rising wooden powerhouse got their first win last year but were always a strong robot in years prior.

4)2486- Coconuts all around make pretty solid robots. Usually it is little things here and there that hold them back from being as strong as the teams I listed ahead of them but changes from year to year.

5)1726- Usually fields a solid robot. By far the most consistent team that is always an eliminations contender.

1. 2052: 2052 has been a local powerhouse for the last four years, and always finds a way to win.

Well, you just made my day. Are you confident you didn't mean 4539 though? In my mind, they have a better claim to the "best young team" title than us. Same for 5172.

For MN, my ranking would go something like this:
1. 2052* - 1 regional finalist, 4 regional wins, 3 division quarter-finals, state championships playoffs every year, 1 state championship finalist, 2 state championship wins
2. 2512 - 2 regional finalists, 2 regional wins, 1 division quarter-finals, 1 Einstein appearance, 1 IRI invite, 3 state championship playoffs, 1 Chairman's
3. 2175 - 2 regional wins, 2 state championship wins, 1 division quarter-finalist, 1 division finalist, 2 IRI invites, 1 IRI quarter-finalist
4. 1816 - 2 regional finalists, has attended every state championship, Championship WFFA winner, 2 EI, 3 Chairman's
5/6. 2502 - 1 regional finalist, 2 regional wins, 1 state championship playoffs, 1 state championship win, 1 division quarter-finalist, 1 IRI invite
5/6. 3130 - 1 regional finalist, 2 regional wins, 1 divisional semifinalist, 1 IRI invite, 1 state championship invite, 1 state championship win

2502 and 3130 both had extremely successful 2015 seasons. If either of them are even remotely as successful this season, they will move much higher on my list.

I'll attempt to do one for New England as a whole.
I may be neglecting some non-CT teams, as admittedly I'm not too familiar with some of those.

1. 195 - scary good every year, they belong right at the top
2. 1519 - a close second, with many event wins and nearly a CMP win in '13
3. 125 - robots always incredibly beautiful, and crank out wins each year
4. 2067 - probably biased here
5. 177 - rough last season, but previous years gets them a spot on this list

I'm surprised that 2169 hasn't been mentioned yet for MN. 2169- 1 regional finalist, 3 regional winner, 2 regional chairmans, 1 regional EI, 1 division quarter finals, 1 division semi finals, 1 division finals, 1 MN state championship win, 1 MN state championship finalist.

Boe 28-02-2016 21:41

Re: Top 5 teams for your state over the last 4 years

As far as Minnesota goes its pretty outrageous that 2169 isn't being mentioned. If we are talking the last 4 years (rebound rumble - recycle rush), three division playoff appearances (qf, sf, f), 3 regional wins, 1 regional finalist, 1 state championship, 1 state finalist. Plus 2 chairmans on top of that.

My top 5 for MN would be:
2052
2169
2512
2175
2502

A really good sign for MN is how close things become after that with 3130, 5172, 4536, 4539, 4778, 3883, 1816, 3313 ect.

Let's just go with that I'm not sure the team would agree it was their choice, and leave it at that. There's a thread somewhere around with more information, from last summer or so.

I'd try to do a top 5, but there's just too many teams in CA.

In general I agree with most of the rankings for MN. I think there are a lot of young, up-and-coming teams both on the field, and off of it. Things are going to start getting pretty crazy in the playoffs, and in the Chairman's Award competition.

It's a fun time to be involved with robotics in MN as made evident by the number of active posters on this fantastic website.

That's why I went with 10 err 11 way to hard to choose all are awesome. OMG good.

Saw Holy Cows in practice, lets just say I'm glad we avoid them this year, so good. You're all in for a treat.

I'm surprised that 2169 hasn't been mentioned yet for MN. 2169- 1 regional finalist, 3 regional winner, 2 regional chairmans, 1 regional EI, 1 division quarter finals, 1 division semi finals, 1 division finals, 1 MN state championship win, 1 MN state championship finalist.

I knew I was forgetting someone. Of course 2169 should be on the list.

In Tennessee, 3824 and 4296 are the top 2.

Both perform very well every year (3824 made it to the playoffs in Palmetto this weekend!), and HVA help us out so much (giving advice, extra parts, etc.) these last two years we've been a team. Who knows, maybe we'll rise to the top with them in a couple years :)

I don't keep up with many teams outside East TN, sadly. :(

Agreed, We cannot talk about Illinois without the Roboteers in the mix. I think we are seeing a bounce back from 111 as well.

There's no question that any list of the Arizona teams simply must include Carl Hayden HS (842). Their achievements are legendary and they haven't done too badly in regional competitions over the last 4 years either. They build very good robots.

Nothing but stars. Also 399,2102,2453, 2485, 3255 in SD week 1. Lots of great teams next two weeks. Looking forward to it. Love top-tier CA competitions. Brings the best out.Lots of fun. 3255 is looking very sharp (as usual) too in practice.

Re: Top 5 teams for your state over the last 4 years

Since we started in 2013, here are the teams that I would put on the tops in Minnesota. Please note that this is just an opinion. However, when I see these teams in an event we are involved in, I know we need to bring our 'A' game...

1. 1816 - All around the most complete and decorated team in Minnesota. No matter the event they are in, they are a team to beat.
2 (t). 2052 - 2013,2014 State Champ, 2015 State Finalist, 4 Regional Wins, 3 Regional Finalist,
2 (t). 2169 - Too many Banners to rattle off here - most CA's in Minnesota (5).
4 (t). 2175 - A team that loves to compete more than any other I have witnessed. 2 Regional Wins, 2 State Championships, 2013 Galileo Finalists (with 2169)
4 (t). 2512 - This team has been a force for a while and last season was their best. Champs Finalist, State Champs (2015), CA, Regional Winners, and the list goes on.

A strong 6th place goes to 3130 - in 2015 alone they were State Champs, Regional Winners (x2), EE, and WF.

This year will help to settle out many others - it is too early to truly make this list - it will be interesting to see following the 2016 season. I would also shine a light on 2177, 3313, 3276, 4539, 4536, 3883, 2883, 4778.

*Full disclosure: I am an alum of 2052

Nope, I’m just a huge fan of your team.

Minnesota has an interesting dynamic in that there are so many teams that are neck and neck in terms of competitive level. A team that has stood out to me recently is 5172, The Greenbush Gators. For such a young team they are doing a lot of great things. This year is their first year competing in two regionals, and I cannot wait to see the caliber of performance they reach by the end of the season. Obviously not quite as decorated as some of the more household names in the lake state, but I think their spotlight is fast-approaching.

CRAP - I didn't mean to slight them at all! They were the 3rd ranked team at the 2014 State Champs and had an incredible robot. I agree, 5272 should be in the mix.

Re: Top 5 teams for your state over the last 4 years

So the question is about best teams not best robots in the last 4 years so my list for Florida:

1. 233 The Pink Team:
I know it may sound weird but just hear me out

Wins and Finalist Appearances:
2012 Orlando Regional Winner, 2012 Boston Regional Winner, 2012 Curie Division Winner, 2012 Einstein Finalist, 2013 Orlando Regional Finalist, 2015 Alamo Regional Finalist, 2015 Queen City Regional Winner, 2015 Carver Division Finalist.

Other Awards:
Between 2012 and 2015 they earned; 2 Excellence in Engineering Awards, 2 Imagery Awards, an Industrial Design Award, a Championship and Regional Team Spirit Award, had a Dean's List Finalist, 2 Woodie Flowers Finalist, and most importantly an Engineering Inspiration Award and a Chairman's Award.

4 Year Blue Banner Count:5 (7 Counting WFFA)

If we are judging based on the top 5 TEAMS not the top 5 robots then in the last 4 years 233 is number 1 in Florida no question, now after this year when 2012 is no longer a factor we will see.

2. 180 S.P.A.M.:

Yes 180 beat 233 on Einstein in 2012, yes in my ranking I consider a Regional Chairman's and Engineering Inspiration Award enough to just allow 233 to be considered the better team.

Wins and Finalist Appearances:
2012 Orlando Regional Finalist, 2012 South Florida Regional Winner, 2012 Galileo Division Winner, 2012 Championship Winner, 2013 South Florida Regional Winner, 2014 Orlando Regional Winner, and 2014 South Florida Regional Winner.

Other Awards:
Between 2012 and 2015 they have also earned, 2 Industrial Design Awards, 3 Gracious Professionalism Awards, a Judges Award and had a Dean's List Finalist.

4 Year Blue Banner Count: 6

180 is a Chairman's or Engineering Inspiration award away from being the best Florida team but until then, or when 2012 is no longer a factor and I redo these rankings, this is where they stand.

3. 1592 Bionic Tigers:

I feel Bionic Tigers are not as well known as they should be, due to a lack of an Einstein appearance in the teams history, however looking at the last 4 years they are clearly number 3.

Wins and Finalist Appearances:
2012 Orlando Regional Winner, 2012 South Florida Regional Winner, 2014 Orlando Regional Winner, and 2015 Buckeye Regional Winner

Other Awards:
Between 2012 and 2015 they have earned, an Innovation in Control Award, 2 Entrepreneurship Awards, an Industrial Safety Award, and had a Dean's List Finalist.

4 Year Blue Banner Count: 4

1592 also had their 2013 robot get destroyed in a car accident, and rebuilt it in a day, that was crazy to see in person.

4. 79 Krunch

This one may come as a surprise after a lackluster 2015 but once again we are looking at teams here.

Wins and Finalist Appearances:
2012 Orlando Regional Finalist, 2013 Orlando Regional Winner, 2013 Washington DC Regional Winner, 2014 Orlando Regional Finalist

Other Awards:
Between 2012 and 2015 they earned, an Entrepreneurship Award, an Industrial Design Award, a Team Spirit Award, had 2 Dean's List Finalists, an Engineering Inspiration Award, and a Chairman's Award

4 Year Blue Banner Count: 3

Krunch will hopefully be back to form this year and live up to my number 4 ranking here.

Now before I get on to number 5 I just want to say when I first read the thread title I had a completely different list of teams that immediately popped into my mind so not only was the list restructured after I really thought about it but in fact both 79 and my number 5 bumped off my own team so without further ado:

4. 1902 Exploding Bacon:
This is where Team vs Robot really came into play as the last 4 years 1902 may not have produced the most competitive robots of their history but as a team they have been exceptionally well rounded and always came to play

Wins and Finalist Appearances:
2013 South Florida Regional Winner

Other Awards:
A Championship and 2 Regional Imagery Awards, a Creativity Award, 2 Dean's List Finalists, but what sets them apart are 2 Engineering Inspiration Awards, and 2 Chairman's Awards.

4 Year Blue Banner Count: 3

1902 looks to be back in to dual threat mode this year with Battering Ham, and I know they haven't let up on the out reach end making them my number 5 team.

Honorable mentions:

744 Shark Attack (3x Regional Finalist, 2x Regional Winner, 1x Division Finalist and a Woodie Flowers Finalist)
179 The Children of the Swamp (1x Regional Finalist, 2x Regional Winner and a Woodie Flowers Finalist)
2383 Ninjineers (1x Regional Finalist, 1x Regional Winner, 1x Division Finalist, and a Dean's List Finalist)

My personal opinion for top teams in the past 5 years for Pa are in no particular order (not based on banners so much as overall performance):

291- CIA
63- The Red Barons
3504-Girls Of Steel

There has been alot of up-and-coming teams, just none that have distanced themselves from others.

With some less than conclusive responses earlier in the thread, and more than a little personal bias of my own, I'll throw up an NY list that includes as much objectivity as I can, yet still ends up feeling narcissistic.

1) 20
In the 2012-2015 period, 20 accrued 4 regional wins, 2 regional finalists, and a trip to Einstein. Whether you prefer a different team or whatever, 20 had the best results in that period of time. Was also in championship eliminations multiple times.
2) 340
340 won FLR and Buckeye in 2012 and TVR in 2015, and made it to the finals of FLR 2014 and 2015. 340 also accrued a number of well-deserved Chairman's awards in that time, and is regularly in the conversation for the Championship Chairman's Award. Was also in championship eliminations multiple times.
3) 1507
1507 won FLR and Buckeye in 2012, and FLR in 2014. They made it to the finals of the 2013 Buckeye Regional as well, and made championship eliminations multiple times.
4) 1796
1796 won NYC in 2015, and SBPLI in 2013 and 2012. They were unfortunately not selected in championship eliminations during this time.
5) 3015
3015 won Buckeye 2012 and FLR 2015. They also made it to the finals of FLR 2012, Virginia 2013, FLR 2014, and the 2015 Newton Division. In addition to their 2015 Division Finalist run, they were selected for eliminations at the championship in 2014.

There are a number of deserving teams right below this- 1511 has multiple Chairman's Awards and one regional win, 329 has two regional wins and multiple EI awards, 1126 has an event win and a finalist showing. 694 consistently builds solid machines and sometimes wins Chairman's. Some other teams have experienced infrequent success, with 5254 and 263 having breakout seasons in 2015, 334 in 2014, 229/4124 having two regional wins between them over the past 4 years, but being unable to find that consistency, and 2791 having bittersweet 2012 and 2013 seasons.

But by any objective metrics I can think of, the above is the top 5 teams in New York for the 2012-2015 period. Take it or leave it.

Here's my list for Indiana:

135
1501
234
1024
1741

The only reason why 5188 isn't on this list is because they started in 2014

Well we never go in thinking we'll lose so we'll see. We'll certainly be competitive and go from there. I'm not worried.
It's like in the NFL you can play in a weak division or a tough one. I'll take the tough one as it pushes you each season.
This is a "leveling" game if you have not noticed. Hard to be super dominate due to the defense unknowns and vision difficulties. A tough game on all. Fun. I love seeing top tier bots (and having them on our side of the glass sometimes).

Yeah I definitely agree that 5172's performance in Curie in 2014 was impressive.. They definitely deserved the highest rookie seed award.

That and being Finalists twice in a row in 2014 and 2015 at Northern Lights. I believe they won 3rd place at MN State in 2014.. (they nearly beat us and 2175 out of the semis at state that year).

It's exciting seeing the number of upcoming teams in MN. Here's to another great year for MN teams!
