Top Chairman's Award Teams in your State

Inspired by this thread, who are the top teams in your state that are currently eligible to win the most important award in FIRST?

For MN the conversation starts with 1816. They built MNFIRST and they are a legitimate contender to be the next HoF team.

2. Next up is 2220 in my opinion. They consistently are in the running for CA, and they have started a ridiculous amount of FTC teams (I think like 10 or more).

3. 2169 could easily be interchanged with 2220. They are one of the most well rounded teams in MN, competing on and off the field to an exceptional degree.

Other Competitors (have won CA or EI in the past, and are consistent threats to win): 2512, 3313, and 2500

Up-and-comers (haven't won yet, but have the body of work to win):
2977 - They are doing some really cool things with their 7 Rivers Coalition
4607 - Started FRC Jumpstart, 3 FTC teams, and a bunch of FLL teams. Started Central MN Robotics Hub, and have mentored 6 FRC rookie teams in the last 2 years. (I say more because I know more)

So I'd love to hear about the Chairman's competitors in your region!

Shall i say again Skunkworks? I shall.

They have 5 Chairmans, 4 in a row. I dont know any other WA team with that many.

NH:
1058-3 wins in the last 4 years. Can't get past the NE CMP hurdle yet.

1519-won their first one in 2015 but is definitely on the rise.

811-has won both EI and Chairmans recently and can definitely add more.

Other teams who have won recently or can definitely win in the near future: 3467, 166, 131, 1073 and 2342.

Sorry if I forget any IN teams for Chairman's, but based on the past few years all of the following teams have the program to win Chairman's with (in numerical order):

135
234
461
1501
1741
1747
4272

All of these teams have won a CA in the past few years, or are in the running to win one soon.

Re: Top Chairman's Award Teams in your State

For Oregon, based off of the past few year's results:

1540 Flaming Chickens -without a doubt
They have won the equivalent of a Regional Chairman's every year since 2012, and earned the honor for the first time in 2010. They are involved in many things, (helping at the zoo, an algae cleaning robot, FLL, hosting Girls Generation and BunnyBots, and various assorted outreach events, among other things) and, from talking to their Chairman's reps, they mean business.

4125 Confidential has yet to win a Regional Chairman's, but has won District Chairman's the past two years. Aside from 1540, they appear to be the only Oregon team to have done so. Between their FLL programs and their own existence- from stories they told at the COSA (Confederation of Oregon School Administrators) conference, their community is incredibly invested in their program. They are a fantastic team, highly competitive for Chairman's, and I would not be surprised if they received one of the PNW's Regional Chairman's Awards in the next few years.

Recent District Winners (1 time)
4057: STEAMPUNK
3574: HIGH TEKERZ
4488: Shockwave Now with giant dinosaur

From my limited knowledge of Washington Chairman's, I would second Skunkworks. 4911 is also a team to watch out for. They are entering their third season this year: 2014 they were a District EI team, and PNW Rookie All-Star, and were District Chairman's winners in 2015.

Well surprisingly, we (Team 1501) have never won the Chairman's Award, we've come close...matter of fact, this year we threw in the towel, my kids and mentors are done trying.

Interesting FACT though... Adi BendashYehoshua was a 5/6 year student FLL/FRC in the Huntington County 4-H Robotics program. She was mentored by really good mentors on 1501 :-) She went on to Purdue and joined 4272. Last year already, she lead her team 4272 to a Chairman's win and has beaten 1501 out of several UL Safety Awards. Little friendly competition there...Lesson here: be careful how you mentor your students, they just might become your best competition later on in the future.....GOOD JOB Adi!

Wow another tough Category for Missouri. I would have to go with the following, and their all KC teams cause that's who I know:

1710
1939
1987
3528
3284
1986
1730

Any of these teams of the Capability on a yearly basis to win the Chairman's award

Re: Top Chairman's Award Teams in your State

2 years ago this answer would have been easy for me, but then 27 received an incredibly well deserved induction into the HoF in 2014.

Now the top contender in Michigan has to be 503. 6 State Championship Chairman's Awards is more than anyone else has gotten since Michigan switched to Districts in 2009 (including 27, who received 4 at States and 1 at a Regional in that time period).

If I had to add a second contender it would be 33, they have won 4 State Championship Chairman's Awards since 2009.

The only other team to win multiple State Chairman's Awards is 68, who has two. Their Chairman's program seems to be on the rise, as they went back to back in 2014 and 2015.

From New Jersey I'd say the perennial favorites to win Chairman's in any given year are

11
75
1676

The three of them have programs that are recognized far beyond our state's borders and I feel it's only a matter of time before one gets elected to the HoF

The most prolific Chairman's Teams in the KC area actually come from KS, not MO. Both 1108 and 1710 however do not play in KC every year even though it is their closest tournament. They do volunteer there even when they play somewhere else.

Kansas
1108 - KS (8 RCA) (2 DLFA & 2 WFFA)
1710 - KS (5 RCA) (1 REI & 1 WEI) (1 DLFA & 1 WFFA)
3172 - KS (1 RCA)

MISSOURI
0931 - MO (3 RCA) (2 REI) (1 DLFA & 2 WFFA)
1987 - MO (3 RCA) (2 REI) (1 DLFA & 1 WFFA)
1986 - MO (2 RCA) (2 REI) (5 DLFA & 1 WFFA)
3284 - MO (2 RCA) (2 DLFA)
1730 - MO (1 RCA) (5 REI) (2 DLFA & 2 WFFA)

Missouri Honorable Mention
1939 - MO (1 RCA) (1 RE1) (2 DLFA & 1 WFFA)
3528 - MO (1 RCA) (1 REI)
1985 - MO (1 RCA) (1 DLW! & 1 WFFA)
1094 - MO (1 RCA) (1 DLFA & 1 WFFA)

Their are plenty of other teams with tremendous programs that could join these past area winners. Of special note is 4329 who has been running a St. Louis off-season event with 1985 and won 2 EI awards last year.

Re: Top Chairman's Award Teams in your State

I'll mostly agree with Ryan's assessment of Minnesota, but I think some of the facts are wrong, and a bit more explicit data on the teams you've mentioned is good for context.

2220 has only won one RCA (but they've won 3 EI), not exactly consistent
2169 has the most RCA wins in the state (5 RCA), and 1 EI
1816 has 4 RCA, 3 EI
2500 has 6 EI wins, the most in the state
3313, 2512 each have 1 RCA

It's also worth noting that 1816 is currently the only MN team with an RCA streak.

Based on this, I'd put the order similar to yours:

1: 1816: The strongest, but only by a hair. They've both come out on top versus and been beaten by 2169 and 2220 in recent history (last five years) for the top award.

2: 2169, 2220: These two are very close to on par with each other, and though 2169 has a historic edge, it's usually neck and neck. Both are extremely strong teams in terms of community impact, and both have had a huge part in building FTC in their areas. I'd put them almost entirely on par with each other, and with a match up in Peoria this year it will be interesting to see how these two perennial MN contenders stack up against each other out of state.

4: 2500: From my understanding, they almost always fit the criteria for EI more than RCA, but they've been on the edge for long enough and have impacted the urban FRC teams here so much that I think an RCA win is long overdue.

5: 2512: Just generally a solid team. I don't know if it was a fluke or luck or just well earned, but they pulled off a win against a team I was sure was going to be a lock (525) last year at Northern Lights. Definitely a team to watch out for.

In Louisiana you are looking at these teams:

364 - Fusion (2008, 2009)

1912 - Combustion (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013)

2080 - TorBotics (2014)

3337 - Panthrobotics (2015)

Texas :

118 - Robonauts (RCA 2010 , 2005 , 2003) ( EI 2004, 2007 , 2008, 2011, 2013 )

3847 - Spectrum (RCA 2012, 2014)

2468 - Appreciate (RCA 2013, 2014, 2015) (EI in Curie 2014)

Teams that have won RCA and could win again soon: 624, 1477 , 2158

While I agree with your assessment, there's 2 more teams that I think would be worth mentioning even though they haven't won an RCA yet:
3103 - (EI - 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015)
418 - (EI - 2011, 2014, 2015)

Giving 3481 an honorable mention here. They got EI in 2012, but at least without knowing the details personally, it looks like they've been very involved in the San Antonio area this year. I imagine this is part of a big push to be a chairmans contender.

Sad that we can't put 2936 in that list above! Hopefully in a few years 5414 will be a contender as well.

418 won the RCA at 2009 the Lone Star Regional. It was the same event that Bert won WFFA.

So definitely worth mentioning, even more than before.

418 - (RCA - 2009) (EI - 2011, 2014, 2015)

For my Michigan list I would say the top Chairman's teams are
(27), 33, 68, 503, 1023, 2137

Out of the 4 years we have submitted Chairman's, not including 2016 because we have yet to compete. (2012-2015) We have won 3 Regional/District Chairman's and 1 at the State Championship.

JuliaGreen 01-03-2016 12:26

Re: Top Chairman's Award Teams in your State

The great thing about the team growth in Michigan has been the growth in the quality of the Chairman's Award submissions.

Every year, this becomes more and more difficult for the judges as they have so many to select from.

Two quality teams in Michigan that deserve a shout-out: 2337 and 5053.

2337 The EngiNERDs are always out in the community. They understand and exemplify the value of working with others. They hosted one of the best district events in 2013 and are one of the secrets to the success for rookie teams in their hands-on rookie workshop held the day after kickoff. They do more than just help connect the components, they look at the strategy too. When teams ask us where to go to get started, we highly recommend to start with the EngiNERDS rookie workshops.

5053 Laker Robotics. They have a huge FLL and FTC program, with their FLL programs consistently progressing to the state tournaments. The FRC team qualified for MSC in their rookie year and qualified for Worlds in their sophomore year. Their students created this video after their rookie year - the end is very powerful. This team gets what FRC is all about.

There are many more great teams in Michigan and working together only makes us better.

See you at the competitions!

Not from my state, but just 90 minutes away. How about some recognition for 2614 (MARS) from Morgantown, West Virginia?

2008- Rookie All Star Award and Regional Winner
2009- a pair of Innovation in Control Awards
2010- two more Innovation/Control Awards along with an Engineering Inspiration
2011- another Engineering Inspiration Award
2012- their first Regional Chairman's Award and a national Woodie Flowers Award
2013- three Entrepreneurship Awards and another Engineering Inspiration Award
2014- their second RCA
2015- their third RCA
2016- their fourth RCA (their 3rd in the past 3 seasons!)

*this is a partial list of awards. MARS is legit!

I am well aware of the accomplishments of 1108 but I didn't have them on my list because it was for Missouri not Kansas, as for 1710 I just couldn't remember at the time where they were from only knew that they had an outstanding program. Thanks for the clarification though.

There's a lot of Chairman's Award parity in NH... I think a lot of the teams in NH do similar things and many of them are deserving of their efforts.

I'll agree with 1058 and 811 being the best candidates from NH, but I'd put 1519 "in the mix" with 131, 166 and 3467 as teams who have received at least 1 RCA in recent years and with good resumes to repeat. Do watch 1073 and 2342 as a candidate with a rapidly growing resume. I'm putting the number of DCA's or RCA's and Engineering Inspiration wins in the last 10 seasons in parenthesis...

Top tier:
811 - 2 Chairman's ('14 GSD and '14 DCMP) 1 Engineering Inspiration ('15 GSD)
1058 - 3 Chairman's ('12 GSR, '14 NEU, '15 UNH)

In the Mix:
131 - 1 Chairman's ('13 GSR) 2 Engineering Inspirations ('10 GSR, '11 GSR)
166 - 1 Chairman's ('11 GSR)
1073 - no Chairman's or Engineering Inspiration wins since 2006

Re: Top Chairman's Award Teams in your State

I will attempt the Hawaii list..

Since Chairmans require quite a bit of new team creation, the award is seldom given to a Hawaii team.
Especially outside the state but does happen.

This is obviously difficult due to the 2000+ miles of water surrounding the state and economic limitations to outer island teams.

Since Hawaiian Kids (359) did their statewide outreach push in 2010/2011 there isn't much left in the state to work with.
Way to go Glenn!! :D

This, I am sure helped them earn the well deserved Championship Chairmans they received in 2011, our rookie year.
It was very awesome to be at the championship and watch them recieve the HOF.. as we say here "chicken skin" moment.
The Tiki Techs are in fact a startup due to their outreach efforts and gracious nature bringing us out to their school to get us "hooked".

Thanks again Glenn for all your efforts statewide for FIRST..

That being said...

Hawaiin Kids (359) Waialua - Chairmans (5+HOF) in 2003-2008-2009-2010-2011 & HOF awarded - if they submit again.

Team Magma (3008) Kalani - Chairmans (3) in 2010-2012-2015

Kika Mana (368) McKinley - Chairmans (1) in 2005

Tiki Techs (3880) Kealakehe - Chairmans (1) in 2013

I believe that is the list of Hawaii teams that have previously earned a Chairman's Award.

If I missed anyone, sorry, still catching up on sleep and family time.

See you at Orlando & Hawaii Regionals!

Aloha

Side note.. We try every year and will continue for the Chairman's Award, it is so worth the effort!
We do have a few EI's through the process of Chairmans Award submissions, always submit....

I would like to jump in here. FRC Team 2337 has been instrumental in our ability to win RCA two years in a row. If it wasn't for their inspiration and organization, I don't know where we would be today. I spoke to this specifically in their 2013 Chairmans Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WEZ...HoC5O6&index=2

I am honored to be a part of the Enginerd Family. I wear my 2337 Sweatshirt with pride and will always support their program. Julia is right when she talks about their commitment to help other FIRST Teams. I feel this is one of the most overlooked teams last year.

Some rising star teams in Michigan to look out for are the following:

Note: All teams who are not listed in no particular order

107 - TEAM Robotics
5114 - Titanium Tigers
5084 - Fridgebot
1506 - Metal Muscle
862 - Lightning Robotics
469 - Las Guerillas
573 - Mech Warriors
4967 - That One Team
1718 - The Fighting Pi
245 - The Adambots
226 - The Hammerheads
2834 - Bionic Blackhawks
2604 - Metal and Soul

(There are many many more and I apologize if I missed your team. You are in FIRST so you are already AWESOME)

These teams automatically stand out to me as teams with just a couple minor tweaks could be competing for a CCA.

I am honored to compete against these teams. They keep us on our toes every year to make sure we are continuing to be competitive. Every year, we know we gotta bring our A- Game
