Dean on TV tomorrow
 

I don't know how many of you remember the TV crew from National Geographics that was following Dean around most of last season. The special they put together from that is going to air on the National Geographic Channel Sunday the 22nd at 10:00 PM. It' called "True Originals: Dean Kamen". Just thought you all may be interested.

Ooh, thanks for the head's up! I wonder if we'll be in this one. We were filmed a lot during the NYC regional; particularly while we were strategizing for the elimination rounds.

I hope I get the National Geographic Channel.

Thanks for the heads up, I was wondering when it would finally air. I'm really looking forward to watching it since the natl geo people kept us after the nyc regional competition to film our "baby bot" in action.

as it turns out, we won't get the National Geographic Channel until Tuesday, when they come to install our digital cable.

Can anyone tape this for the larger benefit of us premium-cable poor individuals? I'll be your best friend.

I feel the same way I am going to have to find someone to tape that for me. Also I wonder if they will have stuff from Nationals cause I know RAGE was filmed after the final round of the Championship matches. So I am wondering who on my team may be on.:confused:

At NYC last year they kept us for 3 hours after the finals to film us.

could anyone tell the rest of us without fancy cable packages or satelite what teams were on the show tonight please.

Hmm...if I had managed to read this forum...I may have bothered to get off my bum and find a tape :) I didn't though...

Anyways...yet again no TV coverage for team 84 (except for when the camera guy pan's Einstein's seating)

gahhh...I just read this thread and its 11:20...I would have watched it...it really beats writing about dumb ol' Beowulf

evulish or anyone else who saw the program how much was actually on the Robotics Competition? And do you know the names/numbers of any of the teams that were on the program.

They kinda showed FIRST through out the entire thing in little increments I forgot what team they cronicled but the were from NY in Harlem or Bronx I think. I 'm not sure though anyway, I think it was a high numbered team too. They showed lots of nationals stuff and I heard an announcer say the winners of the 2002 National FIRST competition are 173, and who ever else was in that alliance. They got huge Crowd shots of nationals at enistien stage, I also think the had some shots of a regional somewhere with Dean Kamen.

(sorry for the shoddy detials It's early and I have to got to school in like 5 minutes)

Can someone upload it to a serever so I can see it. I just found out that I didn't get it untill last night around 9pm.

Our team would definately be very willing to trade a shirt or something for a copy of the NYC video!! Wait a minute, did you notice if we were in it at all??? We won the regional with the Devil Dawgs and The Titans!! I hope to go back next year and see all of our new friends we made this year but we're still deciding what to attend!

Side Note: 713, you're the best, you had some tough times in NYC but YOU STILL ARE THE BEST!!! I was extremely happy to lend a hand with you guys along with my teamates in the pits!! Also great amazing play award as well!! YOU ROCK!!

I was wondering if there was a way that I could get a copy of the video that was aired about Dean Kamen last night. We dont have the channel that it was aired on. We would be willing to trade for a tape.

Doesn't National Geographic sell tapes of most programs aired? Maybe it's only a selected view...but it's worth a shot if you really want a tape.

They do but I don't think they have that one.

Speaking of home videos.....
 

Remember the A&E presentation of "The Competition" about FIRST?? Well, I was in a local 5 and dime store and I saw lots of A&E "The Competition" tapes. I searched for it but could not find the one on FIRST, but then I went on A&E's website and they do sell it there!

Just thought I'd throw that in there!!!

I taped it so I have a copy ... it's sitting in a box in my room with the mailing adress to Gui Cavalcanti - and it's been there since the show was aired. ::cringe:: sorry Gui! Elgin - I can see if I can make a copy of it for you ... PM me if you're interested (and then maybe I can mail both tapes :rolleyes:

For those who didn't get to see Sunday's special onDean Kamen. The focus of the program was mainly pointed on hardships. Things Kamen had to overcome from Day 1 of birth to the current year. e.g. Trying to keep Ginger / IT secret from the public long enough to get patents going. Basically all his inventions. The small insulin pump, the I-Bot, Ginger / IT / Segway / His cool version of the helicopter. They also mentioned a few things about FIRST and one of the teams i guess 713 not 100% sure about their hardships trying to create a robot in 6wks. and how the coach would drive the students home at like 11PM. The teams that I got a glimpse of was the team that they mainly focused on, and us Team 522. Theres a couple of shots their of the drivers either waiting for the next match or just got done ending a match. and then a small clipping of our robots arm. other then that nothing else was really covered on the teams. its was more on deans inventions then anything.
