2016 Arizona North Regional

Team Tators will be unlocking the spud shed and rolling out the Tator trailer for the journey to Dark Sky City at 03:00 Wed. Looking forward to some friendly competition with a lot of great teams that will be taking the field at the highest regional in FRC!

Robokong will see you there with our robot: SHERMAN!

Yeah, it's built like a tank to stand up to this game.

Defense crosser and HG shooter.

Guess we are lucky, we get to sleep in and leave at 0600 Wednesday.

125 is rolling out early Wednesday morning, flying through Vegas, crossing the Hoover Dam and into Flagstaff.

We're super excited to see some old friends, meet a ton of new ones and get out of the New England winter doldrums!

#AZFL HYPE!

1339 is dropping in with our robot Horton and we are looking forward to stomping around and having some fun!

Anyone willing or wanting some scouting done right now?
Anybody willing to answer questions about their robot?
Anyone have questions about Horton?

Anyone going to bring a nintendo DS with Smash 4 cause I'm bringing a Wii U?

We are excited to see your robot's suspension in competition, but I have a question what is the main goal of your robot.

This year our robots design was geared toward carrying. So the goal is having a very solid scoring cycle game.

I'll augment ironicdeadbird's response a bit: 1) solo breach, 2) accurate and consistent high goal score, 3) consistent 20 point auto.

We will see soon how many of these we can accomplish in the unfamiliar and famously rough AZ North. We are very excited!

This regional is going to be awesome! It's a cool venue and tons of really good teams are coming. It's on course to be one of the best AZ regionals ever.

The list of teams with suspension systems is getting big, too! 842, 991, 1339, 2403, 3187... that's about 10% of the teams competing (and only the ones we currently know about).

50 NUTRONs rolled out this morning at 3AM to catch a 6AM flight out of Boston through Houston to Vegas- at which point the team will drive to Flagstaff.

The robot was checked on the plane along with our tools/parts/supplies/posters. We won't catch load-in tonight but we'll see everyone in the morning!

From what I've heard, NAU will be taking care of it. It's been a crazy season but I think 842 will be fully ready to go this weekend. Will definitely be the strongest Arizona regional in its history. Anything can happen in eliminations.

The facility at NAU is AMAZING! This is the regional to be at.

For example... PADDED PIT FLOORS! Yep, that's right, don't have to stand on hard cement all weekend! The seating are is HUGE.

I think this will be the event to go to every years.

Big thanks for the support from Northern Arizona University!

This is going to be so nice on the volunteers' feet here. The whole arena is padded since it can be used for track and field meets.

Looking forward to seeing all the great robots being unbagged today!

Couple more things I like about this location

Lots of seats! On all sides of the field
A food truck inside the arena
The crew running the event is very laid back and easy going. It makes it such a pleasure to get things done. The inspectors are friendly and helpful, as is the field staff and the volunteers.
Teams are very friendly. We've lent stuff to teams, they've lent stuff to us. GP at it's best.

Let the games begin tomorrow!

Seconding the great venue. The field looks amazing for this game. Here's hoping our robot can handle the level of play it seems we will see tomorrow!

Can someone talk to the webcast folks about just keeping the full field view.

And also that background noise is weird...

What defenses broke that you saw? We had some lexan siding that is for aesthetics pop off, but I don't remember any matches with defenses dislodged or failing to operate correctly. We bent a few low bars but the robots that did never moved out of the low bar after the impact...

A lot of good scores being put up today, pretty much every match is above 75 on both sides of the field. 125 was just scored.

That was a blast! Everything was great, the venue, the teams, the volunteers, the game, it was just an awesome event!

Thanks to 2486 and 1410 for playing with us. So close to finals!

Congrats to 2122, 125, and 498 on the win and to 1619 for the chairman's award.

Now it's time to get ready for west...

The pits were arranged really well. The staff was supportive and relaxed. I was able to tell a friend at 8:30 in the morning that we had a match worth watching at 11:47; it started right on time. What a great event!

Best Arizona regional I've ever been to. Plenty of seats, matches were on time, pits were great, and the most intense elimination matches we've ever been through. Congrats to 1619 on their big chairmens win and also to 2122, 125, and 498 for winning the regional. Big thanks to 4183 and 192 for being great partners. Looking forward to a potential super regional next year. :ahh:

Congrats to our 2015 AZ West Alliance Partners, Team Tators 2122, and their partners on winning Arizona North!

It was awesome working with your team last year at AZ West and I hope we get to see you guys at Champs this year, too!

Brandon Holley 16-03-2016 13:27

Re: 2016 Arizona North Regional

Now that I've had a chance to recover, I'd like to thank a few people and teams for helping make Arizona North a very great experience for the NUTRONs.

First, to our alliance partners, 2122 and 498, it was an absolute pleasure getting to work together and getting to know your teams. We'd love to play with either of you again someday.

Congratulations to 1619 on the well-deserved Chairman's award. You all are a class act and we were happy a deserving team took home the award.

I'd also like to take a chance to personally thank teams 842, 2493 and 1165. On our way out to Flagstaff, we were caught in a 5 hour delay at the Houston airport. During the delay all of our equipment was left on the tarmac in a thunderstorm. The result was several inches of standing water in each of our totes. We lost our power tools and much of our material in the process (tapes, foam, etc). Our tools were covered in rust, were soggy, some non-functional (see below for how we spent Thursday morning, drying out all of our stuff). These teams really went above and beyond and helped us out - we're very thankful and hope we can repay the favor someday (albeit under different circumstances :) ).

The 'Big Dry Out':

Congrats to everyone, we had a great time in Flagstaff. Arizona has always treated us well - we look forward to coming back again someday.

P.S. The team got to take a trip to the Grand Canyon on Sunday, we brought the blue banner along for an awesome team photo.

This regional was hands-down my favorite I've ever been to. Every volunteer and team member I met was friendly and helpful, the venue was wonderful, and the regional was almost never behind on time. The competition itself seemed to be intense and competitive at all points, qualifications and eliminations, and it was very fun to watch.

Congratulations to teams 2122, 125, and 498 on winning the regional, and to 4499 on winning EI! I look forward to seeing what else you guys do this season and can't wait to see all of you again in St. Louis!

Finally, thank you to NAU for letting all of these teams use their stadium, and to team 2486 for helping organize this fantastic regional! It was very well done, and I hope to be back next year!

Re: 2016 Arizona North Regional

I would just like to encourage anyone who has considered the Arizona west regional but didn't make it to Flagstaff this year to give it a try next year. The surroundings are beautiful, the event well run, the organizing team and volunteers were great. At this point I am just hoping that our inaugural Idaho regional can meet the standard that Arizona North set. To the organizing team and the volunteers - thank you all for your efforts and for creating such a great event for the teams.

We had a blast with the teams and really enjoyed seeing the qualification alliance cooperation that enabled so many tower captures. We really wish that we could have played more with the great folks on 842, 1011, 1619, 2486, 2996, and 3250, but were very thankful for our elimination alliance partners - the great defense that the Cobra Commanders (498) played, and the steady high goal scoring and breaching that the Nutrons (125) provided to get our alliance through the championship rounds.

Thank you all for your contributions to a great event.

I was down at the field, watching from the side lines and helping were it was needed.

Each tower runs two LED Light Controllers, one for each side of the tower. After Semi-Finals Match 1 were the 2nd and 6th place seeds competed, one of the LED Controllers failed, shutting all of the lights off to the RED tower. It took the field crew a while to figure out a solution, in order to get through the rest of the matches. If you rewatch any of the matches after that, you will notice only one side of the tower working. We were able to get it running with just one controller, but if we plugged the second one in, both sides wouldn't work.

This delay in turn, caused issues with both 842 and 2846. 842, The Falcons, had major air leaking problems, and with the tower delay, the Field crew let them re-pump before the match. 2846, The Coconuts, their robot dropped signal somewhere between the tower issue, and 842 re-pumping, which is why they re-played the match.

In short, a Field Fault led to other robot issues, resulting in a re-play of the semi-finals match.

First off Id like to say what a great well run regional that was! I'm proud of what Arizona FIRST robotics has become from the old days at the Coliseum to that beautiful weather and venue of NAU!

Enough thanks cannot be said to our alliance partners Team 125 The Nutrons from Boston and our alliance captains 2122 The Taterbots from Boise! Thank you for giving us a shot to play and compete with you guys and bring home our first blue banner to Glendale! Hopefully we will get a chance to meet up in St. Louis!

Also a big Congrats to 1619 for the Chairmans Win!
