Favorite Matches from Every Event
After watching the elimination matches at the Northern Lights even in Duluth, I was inspired to create a thread about your favorite matches at the different events.
My choice for Northern Lights was Semi-Finals 1 Match 1. It was amazing to see a match that was really close the entire time. The best part was that both sides had breached and captured. This was tied for highest score of the week and is first for highest combined score. Here is a video of the match. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FA23LUPDESI |
Re: Favorite Matches from Every Event
I really thought Qualification Match 62 at Auburn Mountainview was spectacular. Skunkworks (1983) breached and won as the only team of their alliance on the field.

My Favorite match was Qualification 43 at the lake superior regional. In this match we got our robot working after our robot would not hold connection with the field.

Re: Favorite Matches from Every Event
My favorite match of Granite State was when our team finally got to see our unique gearing system go into overdrive as we pushed a defender all the way out of their courtyard.
Ill post a video here as soon as we process 'em. |

How do you line up for a shot? Do you have a camera? What were you working on during the competition to get it tuned up? |

Re: Favorite Matches from Every Event
My favorite match so far has got to be Q67 of PNW Auburn Mountainview. We, 3238, were down one robot on our alliance and in one match managed to complete six crossings and make six shots in the high goal. Even after that we only managed to win by 4 points with a shot and park in the last 5 seconds of the match after fumbling with the ball for a bit.

For what we were working on during competition to get it 'tuned in', it basically required fixing the structure of the shooter. The bottom 'prong' that basically points to the true location of where the ball should go (the top prong is just for aesthetics) got bent slightly down in one of our early qualification matches. This was because we hadn't tuned in the flow control fittings correctly on our shooter lift piston (we have a two position shooter, one up position for shooting and one down position for intaking), which meant that the shaft collar that stopped the shooter from going down too far was getting pushed further down until the shooter was scraping on the ground. We didn't have a long enough of a break to fix the problem during quals on Friday, so after the last match, we worked to get it back into place and added a stronger corner bracket to make sure it wouldn't happen again. Once that was fixed, on Saturday, we actually were 100% at getting the ball to go into the goal. It did, however, come out of the goal twice during the first quarterfinal match. I would also like to add my own contribution to the thread. There are two matches that stand out to me as being very exciting matches, even though one of them shows a little bias from me. First, I would like to nominate SF 2-1. There was a dual breach, dual capture, which was the only time this happened during Southfield. Second, partially due to personal bias, partially because its an exciting match to watch, I would like to nominate QF 1-2. This match came down to one boulder, even though the score may not show it. The 8 alliance needed one more boulder to capture, and when the match ended, behind the glass, I thought we had won the match. However, when the score came up, we found out that the 1 alliance had captured, which meant that we had lost. We had alumni who had been watching the webcast calling us because they thought we had pulled an upset. If you look at Dan Ernst's photos from the event, you can see our exact reaction when the score came up :ahh: |
Re: Favorite Matches from Every Event
This was the 2vs7 Quarterfinal in Lake Superior.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yuo3d4ewS0g We knew that Nevis 3102 could knock out the defenses on their own as could Esko 5690 (for the Red Alliance). So it came down to us (4607) playing defense versus 2052 KnightKrawler. They put Fridley (2227) on anti-defense and it worked. We struggled to stop 2052. A little history on 4607 and 2052: In 2013 at the MN state championships 2052 and 4607 were on the same alliance when we won the banner. In 2014 at state 4607 led the alliance against 2052, 2175, and 4778 in the state finals and lost. Later that year (2014), 2052, 1816, and 4607 teamed up to win MRI. At Lake Superior 2052 and 4607 were in the same section and the noise was deafening. We have strong connections with 2052 and we respect them as much as any team. We also work well with 5690 - their alliance captain. So when we were paired against the both of them - it was bittersweet. In the heat of getting ready, we wound the winch the wrong way and could not climb. We lost that one - climbing wouldn't have mattered. Regardless, this was one of the best matches I have seen for defense. |

It was some solid defense. We essentially turned the eventual finalists into an alliance with only 1 scoring robot. 2052 was the only one getting boulders in the tower. Right strategy, but broken robots have a tendency to influence matches. |
