Is it possible to duplicate the competition WiFi setup?
We have 2 OM5P-AN radios, one on our robot and one as a spare. Is it possible to use the 2nd radio to duplicate the WiFi setup at a competition?
I am asking because we are trying to troubleshoot a radio dropout during our competition last weekend. It is possible that we lost power to the radio momentarily and that it reset itself. We would like to try simulating that (by pulling the plug and putting it back in) but if we do that with the normal configuration, our driver station will lose WiFi connectivity. I was thinking that, if we were to plug the driver station into the 2nd radio, and have both of them configured as if it were a competition, that we could pull the plug on the robot radio and see if the behavior in the log files matched what we saw in the competition. Any thoughts? --wpd |

You could do that using the home radio kiosk.
The robot one as a bridge, the spare as an AP. The bridge just needs the same SSID as the AP. |

Hi Mark,
Thank you for your reply. Just to make sure I understand... If I configure the robot radio in "Bridge" mode, does it still use the team number as the SSID? I guess I'll find out. Thanks again. --wpd |

Yes, the team number will be the SSID on both devices.

Re: Is it possible to duplicate the competition WiFi setup?
Hello Mark,
I have configured the robot's radio in bridge mode, and the 2nd radio in AP mode. I have plugged into the 2nd radio via ethernet. I can see that I get a DHCP address on my driver station, but I cannot connect to the robot. There is a red LED on the radio on the robot, making me think that it has not connected to our AP. Any thoughts as to what I could try from here? Thanks. --wpd |
Re: Is it possible to duplicate the competition WiFi setup?
OK, I configured by "field" AP as dual band, and that seems to have made things work.
Thanks again. |
Re: Is it possible to duplicate the competition WiFi setup?
Bridge appears to configure as a 5GHz bridge so you would need 5GHz or dual band AP to get them to link.
I'm actually a little surprised that works, I would have guessed they'd both be set to the same IP and have a conflict. |
