Team 1114 - Simbot Sentinel

Team 1114 proudly presents our 2016 robot, Simbot Sentinel

Thanks to all of our sponsors for their generous support, especially Innovation First International, General Motors of Canada, Gridpath Solutions, Juice Matters, Industrial Encoder Corporation, and The District School Board of Niagara.

Also, thanks to FIRST Robotics Canada for providing all Ontario teams a fabulous set of regionals. Simbot Sentinel will be competing at GTR East, Waterloo, and the final single FIRST Championship event.

Looks absolutely stunning. Have been waiting for this for ever. Thank you for finally showing it to us.

I'm getting a similar feeling I got when I saw SideSwipe - it looks REALLY cool, but I can't quite figure out how it works yet. Amazing job as always guys!

I'm not seeing any picture is that just me?

Re: Team 1114 - Simbot Sentinel

It's all about that bumper quality.

New Lightning 08-03-2016 22:41

Re: Team 1114 - Simbot Sentinel

This looks like you have a roller intake that back loads onto a catapult. Since you are the team that you are I assume that intake doubles as a CDF and Portcullis manipulator.

But is there a climber secreted away somewhere there that I just can't see. And what about the Sally Port and the Drawbridge?

Re: Team 1114 - Simbot Sentinel

Looks classy as always. Cannot wait to see this in action as I'm sure it'll be a force on the field.

frcguy 08-03-2016 22:41

Beautiful. Looks incredible. Good luck at the regionals and at champs!

Will you be posting a reveal video? Preferably not one where the only view is a camera sitting in your turret/swerve drive/video tracking bench grinder.

I'm not on 1114, but I don't think they will be doing a reveal video based on what was said in this thread:http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...6&postcount=23
That said, I think practice rounds for GTRE will be reveal enough :p

I think their reveal video will be called "Greater Toronto East Regional" - only 3 days away?!?!

Wow, I'm surprised by the way it looks. All that square and rectangle tubing looks more like a 1678 machine :D
The wheel spacing really has me surprised though. Maybe they are just planning to never take the moat slowly. I really want to see this thing play.
If only the picture had a couple more pixels we could really dig in to some of those insides :)

A few more but still not that much

I think that's what we're all gunning for this year. To be the last true World Champion of FRC.

(to our knowledge)

A lot can change in five years.

Yeah, like 4-5 "championship" level events.

Seriously.

Too much bent sheet metal, not enough polycarbonate, it does have at least one piece of wood however. Sufficient levels of rectangular tubing.
Agree with more pixels, love me some pixels.

i have a feeling that is there to hold the bearing in instead of a collar clamp and longer amount of (heavy) hex it also makes it much easier to to pull out the hex shaft and replace the wooden roller

They look like rivets holding the bearing in.

I don't really think using rivets would be very good for easy maintenance and replacement of the roller. It's a bolt

Very interesting from the Simbots...is Karthik still terrified of all the low bar-capable designs?

Re: Team 1114 - Simbot Sentinel

I'm very eager to see Simbot Sentinel competing at GTRE this weekend! Making guesses, but I see what looks like...

- ~32" long x 24" wide frame
- 6WD with 8" Pneumatic Wheels... hard to see anything for the drive gearboxees
- Short utility arm for 1) harvesting balls, 2) loading shooter, 3) operating CDF and Portcullis
- A scaling mechanism that is a two-stage arm. May use gas springs to power hang?

I honestly can't tell what the shooter is... it looks like either a wheeled shooter, a catapult, or a shooting mechanism on an arm (similar to 846 and 1690).

Inspiring machine as always. I look forward to watching the replays of GTRE after this weekend.

Another stunning example of what it takes to be one of the best....can't wait to see how the Toronto regional shapes up this weekend, hopefully get a chance to catch you guys in action this weekend.

Good Luck!!

Are you guys at 1114 going to release a CAD model of Sentinel? That would make my week!

Batterink 09-03-2016 13:05

Re: Team 1114 - Simbot Sentinel

This robot is intriguing. Usually we have a chance to see your bot at a regional, but this year we aren't going to any of the same comps. I may have to train out to the comp Saturday to catch a closer look.

Sally Port is easy with that robot and a skilled driver - I saw 11 execute a similar (in terms of profile) design and consistently get the Sally Port without assistance at MAR Mt. Olive. Basically what happens is you go backwards through it, spin around 180 degrees fast enough to lose contact, and then go back though. Similar for the drawbridge, though I'm not certain how that robot will keep it down - some have arms that extend out in front that retract for a fraction of a second and then come back down to hold it down.

You're probably right, I just didn't expect it (and so many?) when they already have a bolt and washer holding the bearing in. Is there a reason to also add bolts around the bearing to hold it more securely?

My guess is that they would release it after the season is over, similar to what they did for SideSwipe last year.

I guess that is a climber on the back there. They just deployed it in their practice match, but didn't have time to actually use it, it seems.
