MP3 Player
So, I'm working on the winamp plug-in and wondering what mp3 player you all use...
Vote :) |
Does KaZaA count? cause thats what I use
|
I use iTunes
|
Windows Media Player..... however, I would consider downloading another onto my 60 gig's if we were to have the feature.
|
I'm the only person who uses xmms?
Blasphemy... :p |
I run winamp 2.x for two reasons, one, my comp is relativley slow for winamp 3 (I'm just waiting on a heatsink and I'll have my new comp running), and they haven't developed the Shoutcast plugin for 3 yet, and the 2.x Plugin Emulator doesn't like the Shoutcast plugin too much
If I ran linux, I'd use xmms, but the learning curve for me presently, with the amount of time I have is too steep, and it is too hard to find reliable information on how to setup everything. and I don't want to use RedHat or Mandrake. Once they make a shoutcast plugin for winamp3, that's where I'm at. |
I use Windows Media Player, Real Player, Music Juke Box, Winamp. There really is no one good player out there. They all have there downfalls. Personally I like Winamp the best both old and new versions

XMMS for GUI. mpg321 for playing single mp3s in console and mp3blaster for my console jukebox. XMMS kick's the llama's arse! :P |

If anybody wants to write plug-in's for their mp3 players, let me know, and I'll give you the specs.
I'm probably going to end up doing winamp3. I've got 25% of it done already, just got A.D.D. earlier and stopped coding :) |

I have one that uploads a file with the current song playing to a FTP which could be modified to do a HTTP POST. Let me know if either of you are interested in messing with it. |

sonique 2..... its almost a finished product now, but its still more stable in its alpha form than winamp3 is in its finished form

I think. Also, I just remember that TST locked all our iBooks so I can't use Applescript! :(
BTW, I PM'ed Brandon the Applescript and asked him about the IP address for uploading the info. |
I use WMP. Just cause I'm too lazy to get winamp and wmp lets me mess with my subwooders settings really easily.
|
I am currently using winamp 2 because winamp 3 is really slow on my comp. Also, if you use a shortcut key like 'b' (goes to next song) it takes forever to change (3 seconds) while in winamp 2 it is instantanious. Winamp 3 is cool though because of the cool skins you can get (*cough* my crappy first skin that i never finished */cough*) hehe. :)

I downloaded a simple plugin (not really a plugin, just a set of exes) that cause winamp to either pause, play, skip to the next track, or skip to the previous track. With that, and a Logitech keyboard with three configurable (software) hotkeys, I had immediate access to play, pause, next, and previous, no matter what window had focus on the desktop... |

That's a gutsy thing to say. Winamp 2.7.6 is the most stable mp3 player ever. Tons and tons of people will tell you that. Sonique, on the other hand, tends to eat much of your processing power. I call that useless. Currently, I use Winamp 3 for my audio files. I was thinking of going back to 2.8 because the CPU usage is a bit high, but the new features are nice. For video files, I use BsPlayer. It's a nice video player with support for divx, among other formats. Low CPU usage and an easy interface... not bloatware like WMP. |
right now i use Musicmatch 7.2 to play my mp3s, but i use windows media player for the snl stuff and music videos i download.

I didn't like winamp3 also because when you had it on random, you couldn't go "back" and get back to the same song you were at, which I guess makes sense, but I get very agitated when I can't go back to the song I was just on. I liked the abilites of winamp 3 to be able to enqueque certain songs INSIDE a playlist. I wish UPS would hurry up and deliver my heatsink so I could put together my new system....:( I use the original wmp (before the fluff) that comes with every windows installtion to play videos! If you don't know what I mean C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\mplayer2.exe |

Yay for opensource! I don't see the point in having closed-source free software. If they were selling Winamp, I could see how that would make a difference...but they're not. Sheesh. |
