The "HangShot" - Team 610

Amidst all the other incredible things that happened at GTRE, Team 610 had a few personal victories.

We had a chance to début our now infamous 20-point end game manoeuvre.

Yes, we do hang and shoot into the high goal at the same time.

Yes, we did make the shot.

This photo was from Q55 where our robot also scored 9 goals. It was our best match, and hopefully video of it will be up shortly. I know many will ask about defence, and I'll let the video speak for itself!

Despite only making it to the semi-finals, we had the opportunity to work with two phenomenal teams in 2013 and 5596. 2013 has an elite full-range courtyard shooter and will be a force to reckon with all year. They ranked 3rd (above 118, but behind 2056 and 1241) at what might have been the hardest regional in FRC history with 5 former world champions competing plus another pretty good team that holds the longest regional winning streak at 23. Apt, because 2013 might have been shooting the hardest shots in FRC history. 5596 is an up-and-coming 2nd year team from Toronto. They had a ton of heart and determination, and we leaned on them heavily to play ball-starvation strategies in the elimination rounds. I think they'll be a team to look out for in the not-too-distant future.

Scorpion will make another appearance at Waterloo, and will be hoping qualify for World Champs with an even better robot and effort.

Amazing.
End games are back!

Team 330 did that twice (at least) in Los Angeles this weekend... however they fell after the shot the second time. I've never heard so many people gasp in horror.

Huge thanks have to go to 610 for their contribution to our alliance. They taught us so much about strategy in just 5 matches it was unbelievable. They are easily the most professional team we have ever dealt with (incredibly calm under pressure - yes, we are pretty much the opposite). I really hope we get the chance to work more with them in the future because Mr. Lim is a genius at strategy. We also love the robot lay-up shot. Best of luck at Waterloo!

GTR-E was insane. I think we played one match solo as robots broke down under the strain of the defences.

Thanks to 5596 for their strong defence and auto. I think they got us through quarters when we had so much mechanical trouble. Looking forward to working with you guys more in the future. Hope you can make it up for a visit.

For those who are interested, here is a video of our Q55 performance, where we scored 8 low goals, and 1 high goal while hanging in the last 20 seconds (skip to 2:26 to see the hang and shoot).

"Dunk" was on 1712's "Wish" portion of the Need/Want/Wish; nice to see someone actually doing it :)

Here is 330 doing a HangShot at the Los Angeles Regional, and just after scoring they take a pretty nasty spill!

Torn between wanting to see the aftermath, but not sure if I could handle seeing that aftermath... please label as "graphic" next time

Hi Mr Lim,

I agree with your thoughts on that fall! Looks pretty nasty!

Also, thank you for making this thread to talk about your robot. I watched a Canadian event or two in my day but I had never heard of your team before. I see that you won World Championships back in 2013! Looks like this robot could make another run for the title if you ask me.

Thanks for this post you made talking about your own accomplishments! More people need to post like this so I can learn more about teams from other areas.

Best Regards,
RM

Wikipedia is your friend. Personally, I've heard good things about the St. Louis MetroLink, and figure it might come in handy around April at Champs ;)

Hopefully 3506 YETI will be performing the "hang shot" or "dunk" ourselves this weekend in Asheville. When we deploy our climber brake we have a canned cycle in place to aim and fire the boulder into the high goal at the end automatically. Happy dunking!
