Colorado Regional 2016

Who is ready for the 2016 Colorado Regional? Team 1592 is excited to be revisiting this amazing event for the first time in 6 years(its a long trip from Florida haha). We have made plenty of little changes to our robot. Stop by our pit and we will show them off. Any new local food places that are must have? We are ready for another great time and hopefully a little snow! See you soon.

Re: Colorado Regional 2016

I know that I am extremely looking forward to the Colorado Regional. I'll be the guy in the dark dark blue shirt running around the field making sure teams are getting connected (along with my trusty assistant), but mostly will be in awe of what you guys have done. I so wish this was around when I was in high school. Say Hi!

::rtm:: Teams, please make sure that you have read, understand, and follow the Bumper Rules in Section 4.7 of the Game Manual. This is easily the biggest impediment to passing inspection and getting on the field this year.

As for on-field, PLEASE double and triple check your electrical wiring, particularly the power to both the Radio and the roboRIO. Even go so far as to have someone that hasn't done any wiring on the robot check the connections (the 2nd set of eyes if you will). Check that the red/yellow fuses are pushed in the PDB. If you are pushing and your finger isn't hurting, you aren't pushing hard enough. I have spent a LOT of time explaining to teams why their robot isn't moving on the field as the radio and/or roboRIO are rebooting. ::ouch::

I would love to spend the 4 days talking to teams more in a, "Hey, What's Up! Having fun?" kind of way rather than a, "This is why your robot isn't moving on the field," kind of way. Help me out with that! :D

Also looking for a good place to eat near the venue, when I get a chance....maybe some teams to chat with while doing so. Any ideas?

Depends on what kind of food you like.

1339 got the results back from Arizona and has done some tuning and I'm going to be honest I can't believe how hyped I am for this event.

Without a single team attending Colorado who made it past the Quarterfinals of any tournament so far (beside 1410 who got to the AZ North Semi's as a 2nd pick), it will all come down to fine tuning. I don't think we are going to have anything like 1619 and 1730's sweep last year; it should be really exciting. 4418 is really thrilled for its first shot at Stronghold.

Team 2996 is also incredibly excited to participate in Colorado. After Arizona, I think many teams will have some changes in store. I am also excited to show off the huge changes we have made to our bot.

As for food, there is a really good Greek place just down the street, as well as the original Chipotle just a couple blocks away. It's always a great regional with a lot of awesome teams!

As the only team representing Kansas, 1108 Panther Robotics will be pleased to mix-it-up with teams from Florida, Mexico, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, California...did I miss anyone? Oh yeah...Colorado.

We've made some changes since Greater Kansas City and hope to play a pretty competitive game!

Everyone going into Denver, please travel safe with the Blizzard Warning that is in effect tomorrow from 4am-6pm MDT. Here's hoping it isn't too bad and my flight from Phoenix to Denver isn't affected too much.

Your main and alternate team contacts should have already received an email from the Regional Director this morning around 8 AM. Have these contacts make sure they are checking email throughout the day as I expect there will be updates.

Re: Colorado Regional 2016

I am recommending that teams not try to do load in while the storm is this bad. My team is waiting until the morning at this point. Please realize that ALL teams are effected by the weather, and you won't lose any advantage to other teams due to late starts and slow drives. Be safe! Some teams (Denver Public Schools, for instance) can't even get to their robots today, and it's even possible that the schools will be closed tomorrow as well.

Post your team's robot picture on TBA.

These photos are synced to the TBA app and will be a good resource for scouting.

Hey Everyone, our flight was cancelled today and the earliest we can get in there is late in the day tomorrow (let's hope no further delays/cancellations). We sure are going to miss that crucial Thursday inspection/practice time, but hopefully we can get up and running quickly once we arrive.

I know we aren't the only ones held up by the storm. How's everyone's travel situation?

Storm or not, Denver is still an awesome regional and I'm sure we'll make the most of it. Look forward to seeing you all there sooner or later.

Did you ship it? My internet/email is down so until they fix it communicating with me on cd is probably best. Do you have my cell phone number?

CRUSH 1011 had our flight canceled. We are now making the drive up to Denver since we could not book a flight to Denver until Tuesday (yeah, really).

I know 1108 is held up at the border on the east side, too.

Re: Colorado Regional 2016

1108 made it to Goodland, KS. I-70 is closed from here to Denver but we managed to find hotel rooms. We are hoping that the highway will be open by morning so that we can join the fun as soon possible!

G_rupp 23-03-2016 18:35

Re: Colorado Regional 2016

1108 is in Goodland Kansas. We were able to secure that last rooms at the Comfort Inn before the highway was closed at Goodland. The teams from Wyoming and South Dakota were probably not able to get past the Colorado Wyoming border. It was closed before 8AM today. We received word that there are about 27 volunteers setting up the field without the FTA whose flight to Denver was cancelled.

Re: Colorado Regional 2016

You folks are so amazing. This is one reason we love coming to the Colorado Regional!

Our crate with our robot, batteries, one bumper and minimal supplies is there. Everything else is flying in with us tomorrow. If I could get the inspectors to approve my lockup form via emailed PDF then it might be possible that some of you there could uncrate, unbag and at least get the measure and weigh portion of inspection started for us. I wouldn't want to take anything away from your preparations though, so only if you have the people and time to do it.

Maybe this sort of thing could work for other delayed teams who had their robot shipped. As soon as we arrive we will gladly pitch in to help any of the others who need help.

I don't know if it's cool to post my personal contact info here but I can text/email Debbie from the Highlanders with my info if anyone is up for pitching in with such a huge favor.

I am so moved by everyone's generosity. And Highlanders, you guys set a new standard for gracious professionalism. I don't know how we could ever make it up to you.

THANKS!

No worries at all we are here for you guys. Can you text me a picture of the robot lock up form. I will talk with them tonight/in the morning... We are arriving in about an hour at the venue. Also we will charge up your batteries and have them ready. We will have food for you guys too! We got this! You guys are the best and we will have some extra kids and alumni that will be able to help all day! The roads are looking much better already so you guys should be good for your arrival tomorrow! When do you arrive? Let me know if you need my number and ill pm it to you. Travel safe!

Will definitely be rooting for 1011 back in Phoenix. They had arguably the best if not one of the best low goal scoring machines at Arizona North. Would not surprise me to see them rank one in Colorado. Is there a webcast confirmed?

Certainly much better than early this morning. If you stick to the main roads you should be okay by tomorrow, they should be salting the roads tonight and plowing through the night as well.

Re: Colorado Regional 2016

Someone should reach out to 5763 (Lightning Robotics) to see if they can help get them to competition. They are from Broomfield. They wrote that because of the snow day that they won't be able to compete in the event (https://twitter.com/Lightning5763/st...5215914881024).

I offered some encouragement, letting them know that there will be a number of delayed teams, and also offered help if they do make it. They are a second year team from Legacy High School in the Adams 12 Five Star school district.

I can't do much more than that, but maybe there is someone in this thread with more knowledge about their team, mentors, school, and local conditions that can help.

For now, FIRST events are a little different than some other school activities in that they aren't easily cancelled/rescheduled during bad weather and they are a culmination of a lot of work by the team. Usually explaining this to school administrators is enough to cut through the red tape to try and make the event, even during some not great weather.

Denver Public Schools is again closed today; for some teams this will likely mean that they won't have access to their robots until Friday. Teams from Denver, please try to contact your school's facility manager, many of them will still come in to plow sidewalks and such. Perhaps they will let you in to get your robots.

1339 was able to pack up our stuff and we will have a mini machine shop available, including sanders, a band saw, an arbor press, a hex broach, a drill press, several 3D printers, and a variety of tools. We will also have students available to help you with whatever you need. I really hope that everyone can make it in!

Not that I feel this good internet protocol, but here's my cell number: 3038032980

Text me if you need help.

Im still a little confused as to where this wildcard came from. Can anyone explain? Congrats to 1619,1011,and 4550 on their regional win. Congrats to 2996 on the Engineering Inspiration award and to 4499 on the Chairmains. Good luck at nationals.

Re: Colorado Regional 2016

I want to thank Dawn Lutz and her whole team (including her husband and son) for their tremendous efforts to get this event to run in the midst of the blizzard. A shocking number of teams were on the field for practice on Thursday; a high number, even without considering the disaster of the roads and school closures. Colorado is run so well, year after year.

Congrats to 1619 for being consistently one of the best teams in the Western U.S., and for their win in Colorado and their Northern Arizona Chairman's. We are proud to know you. Congratulations to 4499, the nicest people to work with, we are so lucky to have a team like you in our state, and it was an honor to be your alliance partners. Congratulations to 2996, we so appreciate all you've done for us over the years, including raising up one of the best mentors we could ever ask for, Katie Hernandez. Thanks also to 3288 for believing in us and letting us play with you, please come back to our state anytime, you guys are a treat. 1011, look at you guys! Proud to see you win this regional for the first time, after all your outstanding performances over the years. 1410, once again, you have made Denver Public Schools proud, keep up the great work. 2240, we love you guys, so happy you got as far as you did, and won your first trophy! And Cherry Creek, well deserved. While our schools are rivals, it's always a pleasure to see you and work with you, and show how FRC is different than everything else. So glad you got everything you did, especially considering the snow cancellation for your team on Thursday.

All right, I'm done gushing.

I would like to give a personal shoutout to team 3230, PrototypeX. I think they had one of the most effective and best performing (and coolest) bots on the the field! While it's unfortunate that they were eliminated in the way they were, I think they can still consider this a very successful year, and they should be proud of what they built. Shout out to our alliance for those intense matches we ran
Shout out to 1619, 1011, and 4550 for that wickedly fun last match (and dat score doe!)

Wow what a weekend for 3288. We were not sure we could make it to Denver with all the roads being closed and barely had any time on Thursday after getting to the venue around 3:30. Then our qualification rounds went better than they ever have for us.
We were then able to select a great alliance for qualifications. 4499 was great to work with and I still can't believe we were able to pick 1339. You guys were both great and the matches Saturday afternoon were a blast. What a cool moment when The Highlanders won the Chairman's award and we realized 1339 also earned a wild card.
We would also like to congratulate 1619, 1011 and 4550 on a well deserved win. It was fun playing against you.
Thanks to everyone who helped make the Colorado regional such a great event. I sure hope it works out for us to keep coming back.

Re: Colorado Regional 2016

This was an incredibly challenging Regional due to the weather. I am amazed at how much the FIRST community pulled together to help where they could to support the event and the teams that were affected by it. Even though the Regional was comprised of teams from ten states and Mexico, it felt like family. Thank you to Dawn, Donald & Patrick for all of the sleepless, stressful hours you put in over the four-day stretch. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped set up the field and 2996 for bringing the practice field. We owe another HUGE thank you to teams 1339, 4388 & 662 for all of the help they gave us on Thursday when our students and teachers were not allowed to attend the event due to school activities being cancelled. Congrats to 1619 & 1011 for winning the Regional. We were honored to be along side you completing your alliance. Congrats to our pit-mates 4499 for winning Chairman's. And to all of the teams that not only made it into finals, but made it onto the field. It is not a small feat to design, prototype, build, re-build, test, re-build, test again, and have a working robot in six weeks.
