The event ran great. Just curious - Did anyone end up using the instant replay?

The students I convinced to go to workshops also said they learned some good stuff too. I'll keep an eye out on the spectrum facebook/here for when they get posted.

Yes there was one replay it upheld the ruling that was called on the field, so nothing changed.

TRI 2016 was, as usual, a very well-run event. We had a blast! I think Allen and his team should put together a training manual for groups looking to host off-season events and/or districts. They are very thorough, professional and really get the hospitality side of the effort.

Thanks again and we'll be back!

Thank you for the compliments. We are so thrilled that teams keep coming back. We'll keep working to put on a great event and it will be even better next year.

Would be curious to hear more on the challenge - who asked for it, what was the call & did the team that asked for it feel better about being able to do it? We're going to run the same pilot at GRC so just curious about the details :) Sounds like it went well with hopefully a minor impact to the event schedule.

Working on TBA data, and getting the presentations posted, sometime tonight hopefully.

Also surveys will be going out to teams, as well as photos, etc.

If anyone lost anything or has notes about the event please get in touch with me.

It wasn't fully as official as I would like and the process was odd, so I'm not going to post the full details. Mostly cause our hardware wasn't perfect. Basically a team thought they breached and weren't given the defense crossings to reflect that. We were already behind schedule so we didn't really publicize any part of it to keep the schedule moving. The breach wouldn't have changed the out come of the match anyway had the referees missed a cross so we actually shouldn't have even done the replay. (the team had lost by more than 25). I just pulled up the match videos and let the referees count the crossing as we watched. There was some confusion in letting teams know the outcome of the review as well. In the end there was one crossing missed but it wouldn't have given them the breach or the win.

I still think video replay is a needed item, had the score been different and the referees made a mistake in missing multiple crosses that cost a team an advancement to the next round, I would have felt awful if that was the way any teams left our event (or any event). The goal should always be to get the call right and in this case the refs got it mostly right on the field.

The process wasn't perfect but it helped ensure the refs made the right call and that the game was played fairly.

Yes. (We were the team that asked for the video challenge.)

Another aspect of TRI that seemed to help was extra refs. I think there were twice as many as a regular FIRST event and the extra eyes really seemed to help.

Allen and everyone with Spectrum and all the other volunteers ran a first class event. 456 had a great time and are looking forward to next year. The event couldn't have gone any more smoothly as far as we could tell. Thanks again Allen and everyone involved for giving us such a fun weekend!

Re: Texas Robotics Invitational June 25th

A couple people have asked about the video setup we used at TRI. I'll post a quick overview.

The basics

3 hikvision IP security cameras.
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

3 Clamps
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Gopro...v&dp= 0&af=cc

1 Power over Ethernet gigabit switch
http://www.netgear.com/support/produ...gwmng#download
POE switch that I use, got it off ebay for about $100

A PC with gigabit Ethernet card, and a fast hard drive (Very fast SSD)

We open the live stream from each of the cameras in VLC then use xSplit to capture the video player windows, crop, and resize them and then stream that to YouTube. xSplits RTSP stream players is really processor inefficient for some reason, so we had to move to VLC.
