Now that champs is over, it's time to start thinking about which off-season events you are going to attend. We are still looking for more teams to sign up for this year's TRI.

Huh. Guess we are going. Better get working on that shooter and/or climber again....

Re: Texas Robotics Invitational June 25th
If we need to fill spots, Awtybots have a practice robot we can bring or we can lend it to any pre-rookie teams in need of a robot.

Re: Texas Robotics Invitational June 25th
Here is the final list of teams that signed on or before May 6th. We are going to try to include all of these teams at the event. We are still expecting to get 7 matches per team as well. Rules will be coming out this week and teams can decline attendance at that time.

Re: Texas Robotics Invitational June 25th
Great event ! Congrats to Team Spectrum and Allen Gregory for putting together a top-notch summer event.
When will the elimination matches be posted on youtube ? I see the qualification matches but not eliminations. https://www.youtube.com/user/Spectrum3847/videos |
Re: Texas Robotics Invitational June 25th
The clipped matches will be up sometime next week.
Most of elems can be watched here. https://youtu.be/J2-H_NtRbYA Thanks to everyone that made this an awesome event, hope to see everyone back again next year. |
Re: Texas Robotics Invitational June 25th
The event ran great. Just curious - Did anyone end up using the instant replay?
The students I convinced to go to workshops also said they learned some good stuff too. I'll keep an eye out on the spectrum facebook/here for when they get posted. |
Re: Texas Robotics Invitational June 25th
Yes there was one replay it upheld the ruling that was called on the field, so nothing changed.

Re: Texas Robotics Invitational June 25th
TRI 2016 was, as usual, a very well-run event. We had a blast! I think Allen and his team should put together a training manual for groups looking to host off-season events and/or districts. They are very thorough, professional and really get the hospitality side of the effort.
Thanks again and we'll be back! |

I still think video replay is a needed item, had the score been different and the referees made a mistake in missing multiple crosses that cost a team an advancement to the next round, I would have felt awful if that was the way any teams left our event (or any event). The goal should always be to get the call right and in this case the refs got it mostly right on the field. The process wasn't perfect but it helped ensure the refs made the right call and that the game was played fairly. |

Another aspect of TRI that seemed to help was extra refs. I think there were twice as many as a regular FIRST event and the extra eyes really seemed to help. Allen and everyone with Spectrum and all the other volunteers ran a first class event. 456 had a great time and are looking forward to next year. The event couldn't have gone any more smoothly as far as we could tell. Thanks again Allen and everyone involved for giving us such a fun weekend! |
Re: Texas Robotics Invitational June 25th
A couple people have asked about the video setup we used at TRI. I'll post a quick overview.
The basics 3 hikvision IP security cameras. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 3 Clamps http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Gopro...v&dp= 0&af=cc 1 Power over Ethernet gigabit switch http://www.netgear.com/support/produ...gwmng#download POE switch that I use, got it off ebay for about $100 A PC with gigabit Ethernet card, and a fast hard drive (Very fast SSD) We open the live stream from each of the cameras in VLC then use xSplit to capture the video player windows, crop, and resize them and then stream that to YouTube. xSplits RTSP stream players is really processor inefficient for some reason, so we had to move to VLC. |

Re: Texas Robotics Invitational June 25th
I am a mom/mentor for Metallic Clouds #4335. We just wanted to say thank you and well done. Top notch event. Facility was amazing, volunteers were world class, concessions area was nice. Even at the end of the day the facility was immaculate....Thank you to Spectrum for helping with parts and suggestions when we destroyed our shooter hinge in the first match. Thank you to our alliance partners (Iron Fangs, Full Metal Jackets and Robochargers) for their patience, support and assistance when we destroyed the second hinge in our last match. Your gracious professionalism and calm attitudes were a valuable lesson for the young ladies..Bronc Botz - your mentors talking and sharing with our ladies was wonderful. Sharing your off season schedule suggestions was invaluable..On a personal note. One of our mentors has been in the hospital for weeks. He was sorely missed but we kept him updated throughout the day with our progress. When I mentioned to the beautiful young lady on Robochargers that he was being transferred from Waco to Dallas for more specialized care she reminded me that they were out of Dallas and would be available for anything - meals for the family etc...Wow, just WOW...no words to express how that made us feel..Thank you to all involved!!
