NEW TEAM - Pioneer HS Team 1015 in Ann Arbor MI Needs Mentors

Come join in at the ground floor! Ann Arbor Pioneer High, Michigan's LARGEST High School, has just registered started FIRST Team 1015, and is now searching for college student mentors.

If you are now a college student from a FIRST high school, and are attending ANY of the local Universities or Colleges:
- University of Michigan
- Eastern Michigan University
- Washtenaw Community College
(or simply have ended up in the community), please come join us as a mentor!

Background: Pioneer High is Michigan's largest high school, with about 2800 students. We have STRONG support from both the school's administration and PTSO for starting this program. Pioneer High also has a VERY high overall educational rating, so we expect to have a great team that will grow with time. Pioneer High is located next to the UM Stadium at the corner of Main and Stadium Blvd. It is on several of the major AATA bus routes and is easily reached without a car:

BTW... We're also seeking more sponsors, and local Engineers that wish to have fun building FIRST robots! No experience necessary! We have some corporate support now, but are still seeking more business partners. Corporations interested in helping sponsor Pioneer or individual Engineers wishing the experience of a lifetime should also email me ASAP.

You can reach me by email, using the PM above.

Thanks!

- Keith

We still need mentors!

We're still looking for mentors in the Ann Arbor Area to work with rookie Pioneer High!

We could REALLY use your help, as time is getting short, and we're barely off the blocks yet!

Does any team here know of ANY of your graduates that are now living at or around an Ann Arbor or Ypsilanti MI area college, such as: University of Michigan (UM), Eastern Michigan University (EMU), Washtenaw Community College (WCC), Cleary College, or Concordia Lutheran College? (BuzzU is still offline...)

If so, please send me their names and emails ASAP. We'd like to invite them to come join us!

Thanks!

- Keith

Still shorthanded

Hi! We're still VERY shorthanded, and are looking for anyone around the Ann Arbor MI area that would like to come help us with our various subteams!

If you love FIRST, are in the Ann Arbor MI area, and are either a College Student locally from a HS that had a FIRST team, or an Adult, an Engineer, a Machinist, or are even simply handy with tools, PLEASE drop me a line! We'd love to have you join our team! We're especially interested in finding U of M, EMU or other college students in the area that want to build another robot and join us at the Regionals!

Status: We've raised our fees <HOORAY!> :D, but still could really use more organizational and HS student crew training mentors, design input (the more brains we have looking at the problem the better! :) ), and construction assistance during the build!

Please contact me ASAP if you'd like join in with us this year! The students would love to have you share your expertise with them!

If you just happen to KNOW of any now ex-teammates that are in the Ann Arbor area at UM or EMU, please drop THEM a line and let 'em know about us!

Thanks!

- Keith

Thanks, 74! We do appreciate the offer of phone assistance. We've had others offer that as well, but right now we're primarily looking for mentors that can physically come to the school and build location, and assist with instructing and guiding the students in person.

Can you please forward to me the names of your old team members that are now at the University of Michigan? That would be a GREAT help! :)

FYI, Most of the students I've followed up on to date have said they wished they could help but were too busy to join us, so we're definitely looking for more leads on local college students! If you have graduated teammates that are now at U of M (Ann Arbor MI) that may like to do FIRST again, please just go ahead and forward their names to me!

Thanks!

Actually I think Plymouth-Canton Education Park is the largest high school, or at least the campus is, because we have over 5000 students and 3 buildings working as one school.

P/C vs P/S...

Hey, I'm only echoing what the Principal tells me... :)

Now I lived in Canton for a while. You USED to have two separate High Schools on that campus (Plymouth Salem and Plymouth Canton), which were FIERCELY independent! (Sort of like the current "Survivor" TV show... "Two tribes on one beach"... ;) ) If that's changed and you merged, then yea, AFAIK you WOULD be the biggest school! :D If not though, does either one of your schools have over 2800 students?

BTW, If still separate, is 862 purely a Plymouth Canton team? Does Plymouth Salem now have, or are planning, their own team?

we have 3 schools, plymouth ( the new one), salem, and canton. all on the same campus. We can barely afford to fund one team, let alone 3. imagine 105,000 a year in corporate sponsorship, thats alot of money. I don't think we have any immediate plans to break off into seperate teams unless we ge hundreds of kids interested (we have 35 on the team this year) You would think more than 35 kids out of 5500 would be interested in something like this :)

*edit*
oh, and no one fights about the schools except the sports teams, and they are pretty crappy ;) i have classes in all 3 even though im technically a salem student

Electronics and Calc in Salem
Physics in Plymouth
Combination Raquets, C++, and Advanced Sci Fi in Canton

Looking for new mentors again!

We'd again wish to inform and invite students coming to ANY of the Ann Arbor / Ypsilanti MI colleges or universities (UM, EMU, Cleary, WCC, etc.) that we'd LOVE to have you join our team as mentors and team mates for the 2004 FIRST season!

We had some absolutely WONDERFUL mentors from UM last year for our rookie year! (THANK YOU, Josh, Laura, Joe, Max, and Lindsay! I can't say enough good about them, and we sure couldn't have done it without you guys!) :D

Unfortunately, most of them can NOT come back this year due to their class loads, and their loss is already deeply felt.

FYI: Last year, we had a "stone soup" shop in the empty basement of a local sponsor, and it was rough. THIS year, not only do we have SEVERAL new teachers involved, we're now in the process of building an entire FIRST "lab/work room" in the school for us, with workbenches, air, three phase power, the whole nine yards... :D <YEA!>

We ALREADY have several VERY interesting NEW robot technology preseason projects underway, that we wish accomplish before kickoff. Not only should it be a GREAT and fascinating growth year for the team, it'll be an opportunity to work on some great robotic projects now!

But we're missing YOU, so please come join us!

Pioneer HS is located right across the street from the UM football stadium, a short walk from the UM's main campus, or literally minutes away from downtown by four major bus routes.

Please contact me directly ASAP if you ARE already in or coming to the area, or know of ANYONE from your current team that graduated and WILL be coming to the Ann Arbor MI area and may wish to be involved with our FIRST team.

Thanks!

- Keith

Re: We still need mentors!

My name is Jim and I can help as a mentor. I am going to WCC for college. I have been on team 2928 (viking robotics) in Seattle for two years. if you need to get a hold of me, you can email me at jimlin117[at]gmail[dot]com or call me at 7one8-71zero-71eight0. I will be heading back to my hometown in Ann Arbor on July 5th.
BTW please do not respond here because I am using one of my fellow teammate's account. The best way to get a hold of me is probably email or call me.

This is a really old thread and after a quick search on TBA, it appears as though Team 1015 disbanded after the 2008 FRC season.

Now I've seen necros in my internet career, but I have to say, 9 years is by far the record. Bravo.
