Most banged up boulder

I'm sure there are plenty of banged up boulders out there, thought it might be fun to see some of them. This is what happens when you practice in a metal building!

That's nothing! Our best boulder looks worse then that. I will get a picture of our boulders tomorrow.

Team 5030 posted this on their twitter at the beginning of build season right after prototyping.

Re: Most banged up boulder

We haven't particularly damaged any boulders during build or practise. One of our boulders has a few thin slices, but nothing particularly noticeable. Our practise field is in an old drama room with nice fabric sound proof walls, so this is most likely the reason for the limited damage. Also our shooter has Colson wheels, so it causes little damage. We have found that our shooter wheels gradually wear down the coating of the balls, with a lot of grey powder ending up on the shooting mechanism( it is the ball not the wheels which are wearing).

Members on our team have a habit of bringing home Boulders from competitions that are retired (so beat up they will never be used again in play). I've seen a few but there is this one that has a face drawn on it in sharpie and it looks like it was just cut in half by someone driving over it. I'll try to get a pic of it tomorrow when I'm at our lab.

We have one that's so bad that you don't even recognize that it was a boulder before (because our wheels used to be so grippy that theyd take a chunk out of the ball on firing ::ouch:: ). We taped it together so it would maintain the same shape and we use it to make sure we can hold a ball and i used it to test auto targeting (it doesn't fire at the same height but it doesnt move left or right). Probably cant get a picture before states

Re: Most banged up boulder

Our reveal got a little criticism for using the KOP wheels, while in matches they were fine, the ball we used had 6 weeks of the same tires on them, which is no wonder they turned out this bad

There was a ball up at Pinetree with a chunk missing from it.

What kind of shooter did you run that through?! :ahh: Hopefully that doesn't try to shoot at the audience!

Now I see why some teams don't keep old game pieces...
