Interesting recall on that first finals match. As it was described it should have been a field fault. If the ref panel failed that's a field fault.

Congrats to 27, 67, 1718, and 6086 on a hard-fought win! This entire event has been crazy competitive, kudos to them for a good win.

Easily the best MSC finals since 2010 (maybe ever). Congrats to the champions! Incredible matches in every round

Dang.

We accidentally shot when we were about to climb and it messed up the extension of the arm.

Funny that both the team that I'm on and the team that I mentor got knocked out due to failed climbs.

Oh well, 5460 the silver kings (0-4). Congratulations to 27, 67, and 1718

As I understood it, it wasn't a failure of the tablet, but a failure of FMS to register what the tablet said. I'm no expert on the system, but is that not similar to when real-time scoring fails? They don't call field faults for those.

They did in NE this weekend. I am not entirely sure, but I think whether to redo the match or not in that case is up to the head referee's discretion.

They also called a field fault in MI earlier today when one of the automated scorers failed.

Maybe there is a difference between the automatic scorers and the human-operated scorers.

Wow, the fight for the last district point spot went down to the 6th tie-breaker and was awarded to the 76th ranked team.

The problem wasn't with the human scorers. The defense was punched in to the ref's tablet, but the FMS somehow didn't register it. I don't think this is considered a field fault — I've never heard of this happening, actually. There WAS a fault with the ball counter in the tower (OF 2-15) and the match was replayed. I think Josh Fox is correct here.

Holy crap. Could you explain a little further? Actually, do you (or does anyone) know where we can see the advancement scoring breakdown?

The breakdown of team's scores and who qualified is at http://frc-districtrankings.usfirst.org/2016/fim . The rules about the tiebreakers are in section 7 of the admin manual. Tie-breaker rules are in 7.4.2.4.

In the case of the ball counter, I doubt they knew the exact number of balls missed. I think it was 6, but I'm not sure. With the missed crossing, that was definitely the only one missed, and we noticed it casually watching from the stands. Why replay when you can just correct the score?

Since this seems to be the default thread for MSC-related topics (get on your game Michigan!!!) I wanted to ask how long we have to wait before the official televised coverage of the event is released! Ever since 2011, there has been an hour long broadcast covering the later playoff matches - usually seen on Detroit Public TV. I watched the live stream from RoboZone for a little bit yesterday, but the audio was very choppy. Will the coverage be coming from RoboZone or from DPTV, or both this year?

I just hope if they post the video online again the audio isn't similarly choppy. I need my fix of Dave's analysis...
