BC17: Registration Opens 18-Apr @ 1200

Teams-

Registration is opening soon for BattleCry@WPI 17!

Here's the details:
- BattleCry@WPI 17 with take place over TWO full days on Sat-Sun, 21-22 May 2016 in Worcester, MA.
- 60 teams
- $400 registration gets you t-shirts, team social, BBQ dinner, Ice Cream Social, and Lunches (one day). And most importantly, the chance to try one more time to reign supreme in New England (and beyond).

Tell your friends, tell your rivals, tell your neighboring rookie teams... we welcome and encourage everyone who is interested to sign up! While 2013 broke records with 1 second to fill registration, last year took a few minutes but by the week of the event, we ended up extending invites to our entire Ready Reserve list!

Those who do not make the initial team list will be placed on the Ready Reserves. EVERY YEAR we end up calling almost every team on the Ready Reserves looking for folks to play, especially for last minute drop-outs, so don't hesitate to register even if the slots are full and expect that you will be called up.

When it opens, to register, go to www.wpi.edu/+bc and click "Enter the Fray".

If you are interested in volunteering, we'd love to have your help as well! We'll be posting a volunteer signup link soon.

See you at BC17!

Re: BC17: Registration Opens 18-Apr @ 1200

Volunteer form!

As always, the aspects of the competition that require the most effort are setup and teardown. We'll be setting up all day Friday, the 20th. Teardown is immediately following the awards (but also some during the awards). Day start times to be updated as information becomes available.

I really want to get some new people into key roles, to help spread the load for the people that have been running around to multiple district events every year. Try something you're curious about. Please also give me extra information about any roles you'd like to invent for yourself. You can edit your response as your schedule changes.

Anyone else having trouble with registration?

The registration page just says "Enter the Fray"

Yes, I'm also getting a page that has the "Enter the Fray" title with nothing on it.

Re: BC17: Registration Opens 18-Apr @ 1200

Sorry for the problems today everyone. Unfortunately our CMS didn't publish the page correctly, and it took me a few to get logged in and get it republished. Thanks to everyone for being willing to hit 'refresh' for a bit.

It is now full, took about 7 minutes from when the page went live. Handful of teams are now on the Ready Reserves.

We will do our best to get our Competitor/Ready Reserve list live today, but the folks who control that are volunteers at the Boston Marathon each year so they are a little busy. If we don't get it up today/tonight, it'll be posted tomorrow.

FYI... Dorms will be available this year at the cost of $120/triple. Discounts will be considered for teams with good utilization ratios (i.e. use all triples and need two singles for mentors, we will charge you only $40/pp for the singles).

Later this week we will open up ordering for Dorms, T-shirts (10 free), Saturday BBQ (10 free), Ice Cream Social (10 free), and Sunday Lunches (10 free).

Thanks everyone!

Ben Wolsieffer 18-04-2016 21:11

Has anyone seen the list of teams that are registered? When I go to the page I get an error.

This was the last 2v2 game.
There were not enough teams for our alliance to have a third bot that year, so this is correct.

Our Tactical Update and Rule Changes have been posted! Go check them out at www.wpi.edu/+bc

BC Star is an opportunity for teams to nominate a mentor to be recognized by their team for their outstanding work and dedication to FIRST. Past BC Star recipients will review the submissions and select a winner. The chosen team will be invited to come up during the awards ceremony and recognize their mentor!

Very happy to see the blanks be changed to second round picks only. The second seed getting 4564 from a blank last year was just disheartening to everyone else.

Also happy to see the drawbridge and SP taken away. Makes defenses as a whole much easier, I doubt we'll see anyone working with the category A defenses unless they just want extra defense points. Hopefully this leads to more teams scoring boulders and less teams breaking down.

The center dot is super interesting. I bet we'll see a lot of missed captures because of it. It's a very risky play to go for it if an opponent is too, but it could change the playoffs in an instant.

Overall I really like the rule changes and I'm excited to see how it plays out!

Wow, Thanks. We look forward to playing with Team Paragon again and their huge wheels that bounded through the defenses with ease and their amazing team spirit, welcoming everyone to the event each morning.

I have a question on the playoff rule revisions. For quartefinals, will alliances be seeded in the order of their alliance selection seed, or their highest eighth-final score?

Historically it's been based on initial seed.

We are still on the Waitlist, and probably cannot make it as we have an appearance in our Town Festival that weekend:
Shad Derby

Thank you for acknowledging our unique design and Team Spirit. We are also aces on Imagery. (The "A" in STEAM)
Team Paragon does not necessarily build the best Robots, but we have a great team.

I will be there Game Announcing at one of the best venues in the FIRST world.
I look forward to experiencing 33.14% more horsepower.

I'm a bit confused as far as the Sally port goes... From the rules change:

Quote:

The Sally Port will be modified to have no door and the side panels will be removed.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but does this just mean a platform in position 3?

They will be seeded based on their highest score from the eighth finals.

It is the base plate of the Sally Port inserted into the defense platform.

This being our first BattleCry, I am wondering how teams typically deal with their pits at this event. Do most teams bring their whole rig, or is it more typical to come "bare bones" with just the robot and tools?

Yes, but if you take a sally port apart, you would see some bolt/whatever things sticking up in the four corners. Otherwise, it's pretty flat.

1058 usually brings robot, cart, tools, and spare parts, but leaves stuff like the bandsaw and banners at home for offseasons.

Generally teams bring all / most of their tools but not so much their awards displays or banners. Some teams still do though.

Last year before this event, in preparation for it, I practiced The Police's Roxanne on Rock Band until I could play it on expert while turned around looking at the opposite side of the room. I got a lot of weird looks as I played the song that very same way at that BattleCry, totally worth it though.

That's fantastic, totally not trying to downplay you at all, but it is of special significance to me whether or not they are using a Nintendo Wii to play DDR on.

Since IRI just released their new rules, one of them is that during auto you are allowed to cross the center line (within reason) AFTER you have crossed a defense. This will allow us to do a 30 point auto without penalty since right now we cross the white line with our intake by 2 inches. Can we consider this option for BattleCry this weekend?

Kind of a letdown.
I hope the actual BattleCry video will rival those in the past, specifically BCXI.

Really looking forward to playing Stronghold again in Harrington.

I will be tracking results using this Google spreadsheet in approximately real-time. Quarterfinals seedings are approximate until the Eighthfinals are over.

Does anyone know if the videos are posted? Looking for the Eightfinals if they are available?
Thanks

Day 2 videos are available on TBA. Eighth finals will be up soon as well, I just have to manually import them because the BC tournament was a little funky.

Looks like all matches have been uploaded to YouTube, which is awesome!

Any chance we can get the video for the replay of match 28? It took place right after the first play.

Can you post a link please? I did find this playlist which is awesome but it doesn't have a big chunk of the qual matches. (Big thanks to the uploaders of those matches!)
