Kicking off the Kickoff...
January 4th is the 2003 Kickoff!
But are your teams ready to journey to the great kickoff in NH? This year Manchester is not the only place for the 2003 Kickoff. You have options! All I know so far is that one of the remote kickoff site will be at Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, New York. I had a meeting with the NYC-FIRST Directors to confirm this remote kickoff site. The important thing to note is "space is limited!" So if your team is in the Tri-State area (or want to visit NYC) your teachers and Mentor may want to make plans to attend the NYC Kickoff Presentation and Workshops. There will be room for limited quantity of students to accompany the teacher/mentors. :) :) |

Re: Kicking off
That is a good question-
I don't think so, there is no room to constructure the 2003 playing field. And think of how many security guards they would need to keep all the local teams from sneaking in for preview. But a FIRST representation from Manchester will be at the NYC Kickoff. :D |
Many Remotes....

There will be many remote kickoffs just like last year, with the addition of a few new ones i have a feeling. I'm about 99% sure there will be another one here in Kokomo, IN (not official). :) |

With all the advances in nanotechnology over the past year, maybe the focus of this year's game will be on really, really SMALL machines playing on a field the size of a card table. Every team could have a complete play field included with their kits! -dave [OK Brandon, go ahead and move this to the Rumors forum... :) ] |

Were you refering to "Chiaphua" as in "Ahhh, the power of Chias"?

Well Brooklyn would be my second choice to go to. Unfortunatly, seeing as I live 40 minutes from Manchester and over 5 hours from Brooklyn I guess I'm stuck with Manchester.
Why not have it at Brooklyn Tech though? There should be enough room on the stage in the auditorium to build a field. (It is the third largest stage in the world - or so I once read) And I seem to remember seating for 3000 when I was a student. |
I went to one of the remote kickoff's last year, all they had was one of the goals. That's probably what they will do again this year
|
Why not Bklyn Tech?
Alfred Thompson- "Why not have it at Brooklyn Tech though?"
We try and looked but the FIRST down link is not available, the Tech Cafe' is not open, there is no workshops available, there is no parking available (that is easy), Board of Ed. is not going to paid for people to setup the Kickoff. MetroTech, Brooklyn is a nice place, especially since I work here. :D |
Options for Remote Kick Offs

Information will be made available as soon as all the approvals are received. Special thanks to Jason Morrella FIRST's Western Region Coordinator for all his assistance in making dreams become reality. |
thats good to hear that NYC will have a remote kickoff site. My teachers won't have to travel to jersey to get the kit of parts. as a matter of fact from McKee HS to Poly Tech its about maybe 15 minutes away if that much. And yeah I also read that Brooklyn Tech has got a large stage.

Come see the flatness that is Kokomo, where the highest point for 100 miles around is a natural gas tower. You too can dine in one of the many fast food joints that makes us have more chain restaurants than any city in the US*. Also, you can't miss the glory of Kokomo as you sit at one of our many stoplights (Kokomo has more stoplights per capita than any other city in the US*). You too can visit the great city where stainless steel, the first American car*, first automotive transmission, and the first car radio were invented. Last year, we had 31 teams converge on the great city that is Kokomo. Everyone got to see the live broadcast (we even phoned in a question to Manchester!), get their kits, and see playing field components. We hope for more teams this year. I know what you're thinking... "we could go to NYC and see the big apple, or Manchester to see Dean's house and the home of FIRST... or we could go to Kokomo and see a very large stuffed steer (true!) and a really big Sycamore trunk (true again!)". Even the Beach Boys think highly of Kokomo: "Aruba, Jamaica ooo I wanna take you To Bermuda, Bahama come on pretty mama Key Largo, Montego baby why don't we go Ooo I wanna take you down to Kokomo" Andy B. * - local legend... that's what I heard, at least... so it's gotta be true |
