I don't know about that. Under certain circumstances lighting a fire is THE most intelligent thing you can do. The trick is being smart enough to know when it is and when it isn't.

Examples:
If you are lost in the snowy woods, a fire is a brilliant idea. Especially if you can make it really smoky.

On the other hand...
If you are lost in the chaparral in Southern California in mid August of a dry year, a fire might make your location a little too obvious. You're sure to get plenty of help, but it will probably be too late, unless you are VERY careful. But if you know how to be that careful, you probably know enough not to get lost in the first place.

The same goes for relationships, there are times when a little fire is appropriate and others when it's not. In the case of you students I'd recommend you finish your educations and establish a reasonably steady income before lighting any relational fires. Otherwise things can get way out of hand before you have time to think about it. Talk about playing with fire...

Yes. I agree. If you don't like a thread, don't continue to read it and don't post in it. If it really offends you though, go to a mod, or report it. I, however, don't see how this particular thread is offensive, in fact, I like it.

chellyzee93 30-10-2002 22:04

I was at work the other night ( I work at a nursing home)

After dinner is done I sing while I clean up. The ceilings are huge so I can't help but sing. One of the Ladies there picks up bits and pieces of what people say. One of the guys sings a song the starts out "Let me call you sweetheart" So i'll sing that and that will trigger something in her head so she knows the rest of the song. When I sing I usually sing "Your Song" so now whenever I sing the line"Let me call you Sweetheart" somehow she'll go into a verse of "Your Song" in the middle of the Sweetheart song. It's pretty cool that she remembers that cause she has a really big tumor and isn't really there most of the time.. :)

Bummer.

My awesome kids are out trick or treating with their father (50 miles away) and I'm at a house that is so far into the boonies that there aren't even any trick or treaters to torment by making them do tricks for their treats (yeah I know, run on sentences).

I'm a not too ugly thirty one year old without even a date on Halloween, making obnoxious posts on a chat forum. How pathetic is that. It's my own fault though. Should have made better plans. Oh well, maybe next year. On the plus side, the kids look really great in the costumes I made for them. Making the kids happy makes up for a lot of silly self pity eh?

I'm gonna go find me some chocolate.

I hate Halloween. Every year, all these stupid kids come around to my front door, ring the doorbell, demand candy, and rarely ever give thanks...

Ungrateful bastards...

Scrooge has it all wrong. Christmas time is the wrong time to be mean. During Christmas time, you are never forced to do anything, you don't even have to celebrate it. Halloween should be the time he was always pissed off, for the same reasons I expressed above.

hacksaw692 01-11-2002 01:21

halloween was.... interesting for me, to say the least. i went out to go and do my political hours with my friend. yes, i was being political tonight.

it's a funny concept really. we went out to campaign for a candidate, and she had us going around doing "reverse trick or treat." basically we went around to houses and gave out fliers with candy attached to them. we were on the giving end instead of recieving (though i didn't mind if they offered us candy... lol). we were required to wear signs that stated who we were campaigning for, and i swear we got so many strange looks.

when we would go to a house, people would get so confused. we would say "reverse trick or treat," hand them the flier, and they wouldn't be sure if they should give us candy or not. some gave us candy, other stared oddly at us, and a couple laughed.

i only got 3.5 hours out of that though. eh... it was just fun to see people's reactions. i found it amusing... *goes off to rumage through bag of candy*

Kristina 01-11-2002 04:20

i think i basically have most people beat. night before halloween was basically a halloween here because underprivlidged kids are bused in and they go trick or treating around our dorms. great idea, i think its awesome....except when i'm trying to study for my two midterms that were on halloween. so yeah, went to poli sci and we were basically expected to answer 9 difficult, intricate questions, a page on each in an hour. i think my hand almost fell off. turned in my test and literally ran with a group of 3-5 people to our next midterm up a steep hill (curse UCLA and their hilly campuses). OMG, that cosmos midterm was definately not fun!

chellyzee93 01-11-2002 09:50

We dressd up in masks and dark clothes, then we sat outside "lifeless"(hehe). We sat the candy out with a note "Sorry, please take one" and scared the kids when they came to take it by "coming to life". :D

Shelley_delphi chick 01-11-2002 10:47

Wow..........

My Halloween was actually petty decent this year. I got all dressed up and put make-up on nad went out and trick-or-treated with the lil kids. How about no one believed that I was eighteen and that my parents let me go trick-or-treating by myself. I got a bunch of candy and my dad ended up getting into last night. I went to a friends house and we watched 13 Gohsts!! That movie was awesome and ya'll have all got to see that. Just don't plan on sleeping that night. I couldn't sleep lastnight!! Scared to death!!

I am quite aware of this, I'm not illiterate, and the only two girlfriends I've had were both thespians, one a writer/artist, and one an artist/actress =P As far as the latter goes, I'm not sure what the male obsession with that sort of thing is, nor why that's the first thing that comes to the mind of most guys when any word which sounds like it is spoken/read. I'll never understand my own gender. Anyway, I don't think that sort of discussion is appropriate for this thread.

Back on topic,

I prefer the thespian type myself, particularly actresses and musicians, although artists always hold a special place in my heart.

Here's an interesting question:

Would you date someone on your own robotics team? I mean this in sort of a hypothetical way, where there is someone on your robotics team that you like. If so, why would you? If not, why not?

Um...I have dated 2 people on my team...
One i don't ever want to be around again...but luckily he is graduated...
The other...him and I are becoming friends again, it just took us a while to do...

Reasons not to:
- if you break up, tension is created *remembers nats last year*
- it could distract you from getting your work done...
- fights usually end up involving everyone there in that build session...

Reasons to:
- you and the person have the same geeky interests
- you get to spend quality time together without ever worrying about what you are gonna do...
- theres more i just cant think now...

Its up to you...

Currently...I wouldn't date people on my team...but that's for other reasons...

I guess I would date someone on my team, but the only problem is, i've befriended all of the females on my team and would never want anything to do with any of them ( in a relationship sence ) but I can see how wanting to date someone with the same interests is a defiante bonus.

IMO, A friendship is a great way to start a relationship. It's much better to have a deep relationship with someone you know a lot about.

agreed

True...
But sometimes it might make the friendship end...

_or_ you'd feel too awkward to ask them out...even though you really want to.

I dated a guy on my team once, but he broke up with me when football started. Grr. We're still really good friends, though. A lot of the guys on my team, I've been friends with for years. It would be awkward dating any of them, I think.

... You can always date people from other teams, if not your own! ;)

Not always, it depends on where your heart is :)

Or where your team is located ;) (in relation to the potential date's team)

Guys on my team??

There is no way that I would ever date a guy from my team ever again!! I mean there are some pretty nice guys on my team and all, but during build season and traveling things get all messed up. 2 many feelings can get hurt way 2 fast when in a bus, plane, sleeping in the middle of an airport, or in a hotel. I think that the guys and I have come 2 the conclusion that somethings are better left untouched. As for the whole dating guys on other teams, yea I'm all for that. I think that might be where my nick name came from .......... "the official MOE hoe." Oh well, I guess there will always be that urge to drive 6 hours to see my MOE dudes!!
