Not if 1241 has anything to say about it. or 179. or 5172. or 3476. or 16. or 125. or 118. or one of the other dozen world class teams on this division.

Talk about divisions being evenly split...

Wow!

You know a division is stacked when 5172 is excluded from the elite robot list. They're going to be surprising a lot of people (hopefully scouts are paying attention).

Curie 2014 may have been a little more stacked, but considering how depth is lowered with twice as many divisions, Newton 2016 will definitely be a stacked division to watch.

I think the team that has the ability to surprise everyone will be 1296. If they have fixed the motor smoking problem they could be a big force to be reckoned with in the already stacked division.

Re: 2016 Newton Subdivision

I'd like to offer some friendly advice to everyone in Newton: you do not want 1676 playing defense against you. In addition to being a solid low goal bot, their defense and driving quality is scary. Their defense helped 1257 win Mount Olive from the #7 spot, and helped the #7 alliance defeat us (the #1 alliance) at Bridgewater-Raritan. Watch the finals for either event, and you'll see what I mean.

The "Full Metal Jackets" arrived tonight. We drove through a crazy thunderstorm in central Missouri, hope tomorrow is better. Luckily our robot "Mittens" is sitting in her tiny crate at the dome. If you want scouting data on 1296, check here: http://www.rockwallrobotics.com/robot.html. Mittens has evolved a bit since Palmetto and Dallas.

Wow this division really is stacked. :ahh: This will be an epic set of matches with so many teams against each other and paired with each other. I really can't wait to see match #111 (no offense Wildstang).....in that match you have 179+254 versus 16+5172. Don't let the high number fool you, team #5172 is the real deal. This won't be an epic high scoring match because I expect to see 229 and 2035 playing a lot of D but it will be a match that decides the top 4 seeds IMO. I wouldn't be surprised if 5172 is ranked 1st coming into this match.

Good luck to all the teams and congratulations on a great season and a terrific game.

That depends, do you want to pay the $14.99/night for me to have wifi at the hotel? Thanks, Marriott.

But in reality, I am not flying into STL until later tonight. 1676 has been recording full-field footage today (with a few hiccups it sounds like - something about our camera shocking its user?), and once I get in I'll try to work out something to see if today's footage can be uploaded tonight. If not, it'll be up ASAP tomorrow. I'll keep you posted.

I have most (missing maybe 10 matches which were recorded on a different SD card) of 1676's full-field footage through lunch today on my computer. If you would like a copy, it's about 50 GB, so bring an appropriate SD card and PM me so we can meet up.

Of course, all of our footage will be uploaded onto our YouTube channel tonight.

(I'll accept shirts as payment... large or XL ;) )

Of course, all of our footage will be uploaded onto our YouTube channel tonight.

(I'll accept shirts as payment... large or XL ;) )

Good to know!

When you say "uploaded tonight" I'm guessing it'll be pretty late, to give enough time for all that video to upload?

As soon as I get to somewhere with WiFi I will begin uploading all the footage.

Wow... Match 100. Poofs move a dead robot onto batter, get the capture and win by 1 pt.

That 1 extra rank point can shoot the Poofs into #1 seed maybe.

It was pretty cool watching that

Nobody would have expected this but with team 16 in 41st seed there could be a potential for a 254, 1241, and 16 alliance on Newton. That is scary good. Do you guys think it would be possible?

Well that actually is possible....it depends on how well teams scouted. We saw how it played out on this very division last year; all we know is Alliance selection will be interesting.

16 was arguably better in 2012 and they were a second pick

Look how that turned out

prediction: 1241 picks 254
1519 picks either 5172 or 118
67 gets the other one

1st and 3rd seeds in the finals

Unfortunately it looks like bad hotel WiFi is going to win out again. All the footage is set to upload (I'm uploading Match 100 first, then the rest in order), but I doubt more than 20 or so matches will upload overnight with my current connection. Sorry.

I think the scary thing with the Newton Division is that 125, 16, and 3476 will be 2nd picks on one of those alliances or on all three alliances. My prediction is 16 and 3476 will be picked up by either 7th, 6th, 5th, or 4th seed and then the top 3 will have a chance to get 125.

Maybe I'm missing something, but 118s play seems to be a little lower in quality than I've seen in the past. I think 179 could be picked by 1519 and we'll see a bloody shootout like in Q61, just on both sides of the court.

Don't get me wrong, 118 is definitely one of the best teams out there on Newton.

I watched 118 in their last match today and they looked lost in the opponent's courtyard. I don't know if it was congestion or what (they had them, their 2 partners and a defender there), but they were missing shots all over the place.

118 was fantastic earlier, but their play seems to have dropped off in their last few matches

254 has this habit of being in some of the most exciting matches ever. First on 2014 Einstein they stun the crowd with an amazing autonomous and now this. Probably the best team in FRC right now.

WOW! Who would have thought in Newton that the #7 seed alliance would take it? 4678 shouldn't have been left to such a late draft spot! Excellent matches by all the teams, and super exciting. Couldn't have asked for a better finals!

Those finals matches were full of bad luck for 1241 and 254. But 217 and 3476 look really dangerous anis my dark horse to win Einstein.

The 217-3467-4678-188 alliance faced the toughest playoff schedule of any of the Einstein alliances by far. There's no way they could haven beaten all of those powerhouse alliances solely on good luck. They knocked out SIX robots on Looking Forward's Top25! And I'm perfectly willing to believe that they can knock out some more. Far from being a dark horse, I'd say they're one of the favorites!

I think whatever Alliance made it out of Newton was probably going into Einstein with a target painted on their back since last Friday.

Before today, all four robots on the winning alliance had only one event win between them. Now they have a decent shot at winning on Einstein.

Bad luck? They lost. It's that simple. It's not like there were random number generators determining the scores.

217-3476-4678-188 beat the #1, #2, and #3 seeds in Newton. Clearly the #7 alliance just got lucky. What a shame. /s

Looking back at the matches, I think you are right. The ability for this alliance to cycle boulders very quickly and double hang is what makes them so good. They are now my favorites on Einstein. It is funny that the alliance with 2 tall bots is probably the best alliance on Einstein. Shout-out to 217 on returning to Einstein where they belong. I also would like to note that 3476 is a powerhouse, in just 6 years they have been to Einstein now 3 times.

I didn't say that the #7 alliance got lucky. I was just saying that 708 falling over in match 1 was bad luck for the #1 alliance. The #7 alliance deserves to be on Einstein. Before you guys jump to conclusions on what I said please read and understand what I wrote.
