Carver Scouting Alliance
 

Team 20 will be running our scouting alliance (the Constellation) in the Carver subdivision, and we're looking for teams to join us! Our system is set up such that teams in the alliance send a few members to the stands to scout matches in shifts alongside us, and we'll show them the ropes of our scouting system. We then compile the data gathered, calculate statistics, and share it out with the other teams in the Constellation. This seems to work especially well for rookies or teams who either don't have enough members at the competition to run their own scouting program or don't have a lot of experience with scouting yet, though any team is welcome to join. If your team is interested in being a part of the Constellation or you have questions about the system, please let us know.

We scout the performance of every robot in every match using paper sheets, and compile the data in an electronic database for use in calculations and easier sorting. Match scouts work in shifts of six for 1-2 hour shifts (dependent on how many scouts we have), so they'll have time to take a break and check out all of the other stuff the competition has to offer (pits, scholarship row, etc). We run the updated data to the pits periodically, so make sure you have a laptop that can run Excel for us to put the files on.

To join, just let us know that you'd like to! Tell us how many scouts you think you could contribute so we have an idea of how many people to expect, and then make sure to come talk to us on practice day. We'd like to use the practice matches to train your scouts so they're all set by the time we get to qualifications, and it also gives us time to show your scouting/strategy team how to use the database. Reply or PM me if you decide to join, then stop by our pit and ask to talk to either our head scouts or scouting mentor at the competition.

We will definitely participate as our lead scouting mentor is not able to join us at champs this year. We will have 3 scouts available for every match Thursday and Friday. Thanks for making this possible!

228 may be interested; I'll talk to the team and get back to you guys. From my time on 2791 I know you guys take scouting very seriously and produce quality data, so this would be a great opportunity for us. We would probably have 2-3 kids available; we're a tiny team.

2846, 228, and 5980, just let us know when you make a decision. If you'd like to see what data we record before joining, PM me and I'll send you our match sheets. We also record videos of all matches, so you would have access to those at the end of each day as well (though that's less of a plus now that FIRST is archiving matches themselves). Whatever you decide, good luck and we'll see you at the competition!

4607 will definitely jump in on this. We have a strong group of 6 students dedicated just for stand/field scouting. We have another 8-10 for PIT scouting. We are a fairly large team of 45 strong coming to Champs.

Another tiny team here! I fondly remember competing with Team 20 when you used to come to the Granite State Regionals. I hope to see some familiar mentor faces in St. Louis.

I've suggested joining forces with you for scouting but I'm not at the pack everything meeting tonight. If they do want to work with you, I'll be sure to send our scouts to your pit on practice day.
