Camera bag at CMP?

I am aware that backpacks are not allowed at the Dome for CMP, but string bags are okay. However, I will be taking pictures and videos for my team, and therefore carrying my camera in. Are camera bags allowed in the Dome?

Backpacks aren't allowed in the Dome?

No backpacks? That's news to me.
Do you have a source on that?

I've always carried a backpack. Where did you hear that?

I was just in the dome with a backpack.

That would be a major problem for me.......

There is nothing about backpacks in the A-Z a source I would expect to have information if that is true.

Actually, you probably should tell him.

Then get far, far away very very quickly right about the time you tell him you were joking.

Speaking of which, it's the last true Championship. Can we have another see-who-can-get-something-into-Shaun's-backpack contest?

WOW those were fast replies! A mentor on my team said backpacks aren't allowed, and there have been venues that didn't allow them. So I guess camera bags are okay then?

Yes, I would say camera bags are fine. I haven't personally been to Champs since 2013 (until Thursday!), but I don't even remember them checking bags as you go in. That might have changed since then, but with the shear number of people rushing in the building, I'd doubt it.

Edit: They do check bags; read replies below!

Bags are allowed, but will be checked at the door. No food or drinks to be brought in.

Camera bags are certainly fine (taken mine to champs the last 2 years, and bringing it again this year). They will be searched.

They have been checking bags regularly at Champs since the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013. (It was the first year I started attending Champs regularly again since 2006.)

Be prepared by having your bag open at the door, and you will breeze through security. They appreciate it as much as everyone in line behind you will as well. Also, be aware that there are many police with working dogs at the venue, and remind students that they should not approach the dogs, no matter how cute they usually are.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Will there be a metal detector at the entrance? Supposedly they don't damage SD cards, but still, I would prefer to not send my camera through one if possible.

There hasn't been one on the past that I know of.

Nope no metal detector. Bags are 100% ok to have.

Are water bottles allowed or do they fall under food/drink?

I believe they are but they have to be empty.
