Robots in spaaaace...
No wait, we did that in 2009. On second thought, lets not go to space, it's a silly place. |
Re: Water Game 2017
I think FIRST will give us a water themed game, you know like how Stronghold was Middle Ages/Castle themed. They'll give us a game about water but without any actual water in it.

Re: Water Game 2017
Guys...it already was a water game. Didn't you see?

Re: Water Game 2017
We were chatting about the Bumpers being flotation devices for next year's game, when Big Al (the lead LRI) said he would be closely reviewing the bumper rules for next year. I take that as close as a confirm that he could give.

Re: Water Game 2017
FIRST is dividing the championship because they couldn't find a pool large enough for 600 teams.... water game confirmed.

Re: Water Game 2017
I'm waiting for FIRST's 2018 game FIRST Zombie Run. Made specifically to hold events at 2 venues.
Teams have to venture en mass from one arena to another while dodging volunteers assigned as zombies to attack teams going to the other arena and attempt top steal their robots. Once they arrive at the other arena they are required to play 2016's game with surviving robots using damaged defenses while zombies attempt to disrupt them. Teams must protect drive teams from the zombies using nerf guns, Points are deducted depending how many team members were "killed" by zombies and how many robots were stolen by zombies. |

Dean wants us to promote a bill.
Platypi have bills. Platypi frequently swim in water. Dean wants us to promote platypi. Dean wants teams to build platypus robots. Water Game Confirmed. |
Re: Water Game 2017
This thread seems a bit late... IIRC, there was a water game thread floating around after kickoff last year...

Re: Water Game 2017
I just heard from the GDC that, due to safety concerns, with the water problems they are having in the Flint/Detroit area, there won't be a water game next year.

Re: Water Game 2017
PSA: Water games already exist, and they are more fun than you think! Check out Robosub and MATE, for starters.
Team 842 will be competing in the Robosub competition for the 6th year in a row now. The team gets to go up against universities from around the world (Canada, Turkey, Russia, Japan, China, Singapore, India, Sweden...) in a week long pool-side competition on the beach of San Diego in the summer. Cheaper than FIRST, cash prizes, loads of career contacts, and you get to wear a swimsuit and play in the water. Most top teams that compete in FRC can easily walk away with top finishes at these events. I'm not gonna take the hype for a water game seriously until you all start building some swimming robots! |

Re: Water Game 2017
Honestly, there is no way that they would have a water game. It is a fun thing to think about, but it will never happen. Next, did anybody hear when the people talking in between Einstein matches totally hinted that there would be minibots next year? I feel like I am the only person that heard. Do you think they were being serious?

![]() 3853 wants a water game! |
Re: Water Game 2017
At the closing cerimonies of Worlds, they said 2017 would be a water game.
More specifically, They were talking in general about what next years game is going to be, but it 'slipped out' that it was going to be water related. FIRST hasn't in the past given out so many hints or what not, but this year the have. For example, they gave out an official hint video and the game name, intentionally. The never have (to the best of my knowlage) done that before. Anything is possible. |

In FRC, "anything" can happen.

Re: Water Game 2017
Think about how difficult it would be to actually have a water game, robot design, field design, hoping that the water doesn't leak out everywhere.
If they could overcome the challenges involved, an actual water game could be the best thing ever. |

The real question is what the challenge would be. What if they found a way to combine air and water games, like if the robots would dive down to grab little blocks, and then fly up and place them on high platforms... |

They need at least a pool that can house 6 robots easily in order to have a proper water game. |
