I'm waiting for FIRST's 2018 game FIRST Zombie Run. Made specifically to hold events at 2 venues.
Teams have to venture en mass from one arena to another while dodging volunteers assigned as zombies to attack teams going to the other arena and attempt top steal their robots. Once they arrive at the other arena they are required to play 2016's game with surviving robots using damaged defenses while zombies attempt to disrupt them. Teams must protect drive teams from the zombies using nerf guns, Points are deducted depending how many team members were "killed" by zombies and how many robots were stolen by zombies.

Sorry to have to point this out. Detroit doesn't have water problem. Flint, on the other hand, does have water problems. Flint is an hour away from Detroit. The problem arose when they decided not to drink Detroit water. Just for your future reference.

That being said. Houston and Detroit are port cities. River race game confirmed.

PSA: Water games already exist, and they are more fun than you think! Check out Robosub and MATE, for starters.

Team 842 will be competing in the Robosub competition for the 6th year in a row now. The team gets to go up against universities from around the world (Canada, Turkey, Russia, Japan, China, Singapore, India, Sweden...) in a week long pool-side competition on the beach of San Diego in the summer. Cheaper than FIRST, cash prizes, loads of career contacts, and you get to wear a swimsuit and play in the water.

Most top teams that compete in FRC can easily walk away with top finishes at these events. I'm not gonna take the hype for a water game seriously until you all start building some swimming robots!

Honestly, there is no way that they would have a water game. It is a fun thing to think about, but it will never happen. Next, did anybody hear when the people talking in between Einstein matches totally hinted that there would be minibots next year? I feel like I am the only person that heard. Do you think they were being serious?

At the closing cerimonies of Worlds, they said 2017 would be a water game.

More specifically, They were talking in general about what next years game is going to be, but it 'slipped out' that it was going to be water related.

FIRST hasn't in the past given out so many hints or what not, but this year the have. For example, they gave out an official hint video and the game name, intentionally. The never have (to the best of my knowlage) done that before.

Anything is possible.

Think about how difficult it would be to actually have a water game, robot design, field design, hoping that the water doesn't leak out everywhere.

If they could overcome the challenges involved, an actual water game could be the best thing ever.

I still think an aerial game would be cooler. You have 3 dimensions to play in while still maintaining the safety of the robot.

Plus flying would be really neat. :p

There could be 3 dimensions to a water game too if diving is allowed. An air game would also be cool; maybe that's why there's 3 venues for CMP in Houston next year. Robots will fly from one to the other.

But wouldn't that contaminate the water? What about all the people whom actually want to swim in that pool? How would people bring the bots on and off the "field"?

I know that the water game is a joke and all, but still so many questions...

ROVs don't make the water any more contaminated than a person does. You can swim with robots too, it's not dangerous. It's easy to put them in and out on the side of the pool.

Here's an example of an underwater robot performing an underwater task for an underwater game, in case you're interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xzNtnjIrqk

They would need very strict quality control though, much stricter than what they have now. Otherwise bots could leak and fail.

The real question is what the challenge would be. What if they found a way to combine air and water games, like if the robots would dive down to grab little blocks, and then fly up and place them on high platforms...

I don't think that fully qualifies as a water game. They need more water than what was in those blue balls.

They need at least a pool that can house 6 robots easily in order to have a proper water game.

They must have made them out of extremely thick rubber, so they wouldn't pop, or else there would have been quite a bit of cleanup to do after every match...

They probably had lots of extra balls incase a few popped.

Autonomous: There is a two hour autonomous period during which teams may launch their robot. There is a 20 point bonus for reaching LEO (low earth orbit) during autonomous, and a 40 point bonus for reaching earth escape velocity. Note: teams competing at regionals and districts more than 300m above sea level will have adjusted reaction mass allocations and autonomous scoring. For an additional shipping fee, teams may begin aboard a SpaceX-launched craft in LEO at the end of the autonomous period, thus waiving eligibility for autonomous points.

Teleop: Teams direct their robots to a comet. Robots then mine the comet for water and deliver said water to one of two beacons located at the L4 and L5 metastable orbits leading and trailing the moon. Since the temperature will be below freezing, scoring is by mass, not volume: 1 point per 100g delivered. Maximum payload: 20kg per round trip.

Endgame: Before closing ceremonies, return the robot to the LEO craft for a 20 point bonus or the terrestrial regional for 40 bonus points. The "license plate" must still be intact and (after cleaning) legible to receive endgame bonus points.

Spoiler for strategy:

This game will get really interesting once teams realize that their still isn't working and it's time to play defense..
