I appreciate greatly your support for Mac OS. Please continue to use Mac OS. However I think I have to point out a couple of things. 1. This is form for FIRST, not Mac OS. You have to learn to live un-biased to your personal OS choice. As much as you love you mac, you have to live with people that do not use mac. From my experience, trying to give too much information often alienates you from other members, and creates a bigger conflict. 2. Basically what I am trying to say, is that as much as some people like to hear daily mac news, other people don't. And since this is a form of FIRST and not Mac, I would like to request that you not post as much about Macintosh news. There are several sites that have forms to debate Macintosh related news, like www.maccentral.com www.macrumors.com www.thinksecret.com www.spymac.com and several others There you can view and debate Mac OS issues on a daily base. Thank you for listening, and hope you realize that I fully support Mac OS, but sometime, especially on this form you have to respect others people feelings about an OS. Unless somebody talks about the Macintosh in a negative way, I would suggest that you don't include anything about Mac OS as frequent as you have been doing. Anyways, I heard about this article, and I think that this is great for Mac OS. Usually when a product is free, people often tend to try it, and is a good way to spread the adoption of Mac OS X. |

You could say the same about a classified thread and many other things. This is in Chit-Chat, and we can post OSX things here. I am a member of SpyMac along with Mr. Ivey, but we can post almost anything here as long as it's not crap.

I thought this was quite informative actually, I will actually get a free copy of jaguar now because my mom is a teacher! And also, I want to say that it should be posted here, and it is rightfully put into the chit-chat section where anything goes!!

That's the difference between free and free. "Free beer" is software that is free as in binary-only for no charge, just like if you were to recieve free beer. "Free software" is typically distributed with source, and is freely modifiable by anyone willing. Warez Doodz don't understand Free Software |
LoL! Free Linux by Warez!! LOL!! They must be more messed up than I thought...

Re: TEACHERS, Get a free copy of Mac OS 10.2
Linux... I run Gentoo Linux on three of my computers (all the x86 boxes in the house). It's a pain to install (there's not really an automated installer, but the installation instructions are wonderfully written and you can learn more about Linux by installing Gentoo (or using Slackware, my other favorite distro) than by using Red Hat or some other desktop distro) but it builds every program to your specifications, so you can take advantage of all the fancy MMX, SSE, and/or 3DNOW instructions your processor uses, and optimize code for your specific processor. The package manager, emerge, and the package tree, portage, are also really flexible, and you can get most popular apps (and some quite odd ones) very easily--it handles dependencies and everything smoothly. I run GNOME as the desktop environment, Abiword/Gnumeric (gnome-office) for office (I also have openoffice.org installed for when I need it), Dia for diagramming (sorta like Visio), Firefox/Thunderbird for internet stuff, Gaim for IM, XMMS and MPD (music player daemon--a remote-control media player I run on my "server") for music, Xine for video, BZFlag as my #1 game (also Tuxracer and Supertux), The Gimp for photo editing and graphics, and I'm trying an HTML editor called Bluefish Web Development Studio.

Re: TEACHERS, Get a free copy of Mac OS 10.2
Wow! Nothing like reviving a 2 1/2 year old thread!
If you want to discuss Linux you should post in the IT/Communications forum. Since the original point of this thread is long past perhaps it's time to lock it and allow it to rest in peace. ;) |
Re: TEACHERS, Get a free copy of Mac OS 10.2
Haha. A 2.5 year old thread that apparently I severely derailed LIVES ON!! (And I'm posting this from a Mac and don't really care much for Linux any more.)

Sorry... I was searching for something and just found this and replied to it. I don't usually check the date on things.
