If it ever could be implemented, I'm sure it wouldn't be the primary driver or coach. But here's another idea: having a VR headset that an audience member can wear and experience a match from the perspective of the robot. That would be sick and definitely put spectating at a whole other level.)

Good luck convincing the GDC of that :D :P

It is too bad FIRST did not go with the suggestion to use low frequency RF for FMS and get out of the WiFi business. Then you could use whatever WiFi you could get your hands on.

I suspect you could get stereo video from the robot with 7Mbps at 800x600 if you reduce your color depth (think grayscale), deeply compress and can manage to avoid a migraine at low frame rate.

If you were clever you might put a coprocessor on the robot and join the frames such that you must send a synchronized pair either interspersed or bound at the short edge. I suspect interspersed would yield greater compression.

Yes! This would be amazing. There's just so much going on in any given match. Imagine a camera placed just over the center of the field.

I see a slight issue with that:

If this is a camera looking at a parabolic lens with unfolding software: directly under the camera is a blind spot.

If this is not such a setup (I can't see the links due to some software) then maybe that's not an issue.

It has 8 GB of memory and – I quote from the website – a total video recording time of "(L) approx. 65 minutes, (M) approx. 175 minutes." I assume the L and M stand for Large and Medium, but that's just guesswork there. If your not satisfied with this model I'd suggest looking for other brands and options too, there's some good stuff out there – just gotta budget effectively :)

The m15 seems to only allow 5 minutes max. The S does have live streaming capability, so I guess you could record from there.

What if these had been on top of the pyramids in 2013? The tops of the castles and standards may have been good places for one this year...

In the video, you can see what's under the camera, right up to the top of the pole it's mounted on! The only thing you can't see is the camera itself.
