Using a steering wheel to control a robot

As an offseason project my team wants to figure out how to control the robot with a steering wheel and pedals. We've purchased a Logitech driving force GT and I installed the drivers from the Logitech website and the driver station recognizes the steering wheel as a joystick but whenever I move the wheel or press any of the buttons nothing goes off on the driver station. I'm wondering if anybody has tried this and could tell me what I'm missing

We've used steering wheel control for several years without problems.

Try using a tool like joytester2 to verify the outputs from the device are as expected.

Rather than pedals, we use a standard joystick as forward/backward throttle. Pedals might be tough to use when standing at a drivers' station!
