Rule 6 uses CROSSES instead of crosses when talking about moving over the defense, is it intentional to prevent a spybot from going back into the neutral zone and crossing the midline without again entering the opponents courtyard?

Re: Chezy Champs 2016
Wow! The team list looks stacked! This'll be a fun event to watch for sure!
|
Re: Chezy Champs 2016
In regards to the rule changes, one rule that i have seen many off season competitions remove is the driving over a boulder while in possession of a boulder foul... Will this rule change be used at Chezy Champs?
Thanks, Niklas Murray |
Re: Chezy Champs 2016

The referees at Chezy Champs are instructed to use common sense and always give the benefit of the doubt to the teams, so if a robot drives over a boulder and isn't obviously trying to control it, by that token they won't call a foul. |

Re: Chezy Champs 2016
I know it may be a little early for this, but does anyone want to trade shirts? I've got a whole bunch of 5940 shirts left over from Champs, and I am happy to trade with anyone in attendance.
Additionally, there are a few things I'm looking for in particular: a 1678 shirt, an 1868 snap-back hat, a 971 hat, any 254 shirt, and a 5803 shirt. For those items in particular I'm willing to trade a normal team shirt, one of our special "Rookie All-Star" shirts (has "2016 Silicon Valley Regional Rookie All-Star Award Winner" on the sleeve and a different design on the back), or just pay cash. PM me if you are interested! |
Re: Chezy Champs 2016
As part of our Chezy Champs coverage this year, GameSense is going to be creating some video content featuring YOUR team's story! If your team is going to Chezy Champs, fill out this survey by 9/9/16 and tell us about yourselves! If we decided to follow up on your team, we'll record some interviews with you in the pits at Chezy Champs and feature your team during the event on the big screen in the venue, and on the webcast. The better and more thorough your responses are, the more likely you will end up being featured on the broadcast! We're excited to be back for a third year, and we can't wait to talk about our new surprise for this year's event very soon. |

Hey everyone!!
The Awtybots are excited to attend Chezy Champs! We look forward to meeting everyone and making some new friends! We've made some change to our robot and should be ready to have some fun. We're also going to be bringing some shirts for trading so if anyone wants one, let me know so I'll make sure to have your size! See y'all soon! |
Re: Chezy Champs 2016
Hey Everyone,
I'll be out with some 701 shirts for trade in any size. Some specific shirts that I'm looking for are a 1678 shirt, a 1983 shirt, and a 3476 shirt. That being said I'm willing to trade with anyone. If you are interested, please send me a pm and we'll make it work. Niklas Murray |
Re: Chezy Champs 2016
Regarding alliance selection, does Chezy Champs go 1-8, 1-8, 8-1 like IRI? We found video of the 2014 alliance selection where the official method was used and couldn't find anything for 2015. We also couldn't find anything about it in the rules. Thanks!
Edit: One additional question. Your original list included 45 teams, but the website now says there are only 43 teams going. Can we please get an updated list of attendees? |

Re: Chezy Champs 2016
For anyone interested in some last minute predictions/stats:
Using the preliminary match schedule and some component OPR / averages calculations, I ran some match predictions, which I used to predict overall rankings. The ranking predictions, match predictions, and data used are here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...#gid=176192934 It should allow you to manually change match results to update the rankings automatically, but I haven't fully tested it out. Here's a visual representation of the effect the match schedule has on teams (green = predicted rank is higher than opr rank, red = opposite): ![]() More details on my formulas: - Winning alliances are predicted on the alliances' total OPR - Auto points are predicted on the alliances' total auto OPR - Capturing is predicted on the alliances' total boulder OPRs (auto low, auto high, teleop low, teleop high), with 10 as the cutoff. Challenging/scaling wasn't taken into account . - Breaching is kind of messy and I think I messed up the calculations somewhere (but every alliance is predicted to breach anyway so it doesn't really matter), but I used 4 as the cutoff for breaching a defense, with an alliance needing 5 to guarantee a breach (since defenses are randomized) - Teams are ranked with RPs as the 1st order sort and auto points as the 2nd Good luck to everyone! |

Can we all just acknowledge how great Chezy Arena looks? This is way better than the official FMS and I'm honestly not sure why FIRST doesn't have anything better. My only issue is that it doesn't show the rankings for the teams that played at the end of a match.

We will be opening early this morning at 8am and running our replay matches from 8:30-9:00 am.
As a reminder, there are several road closures this morning relating to the San Jose Sharks event which will impact arrival at the event. A map of how to enter the main event parking lots on Hedding St. is here. To reach the arena parking lot instead, take 87 to the Taylor St. Exit. Proceed under the train tracks and turn right onto Stockton. Take Stockton until the road turns and you reach the parking lot. We do apologize for the late notice. |

Wow.
Congratulations to 971, 1678, 604, and 2135 on winning Chezy Champs! You all put on an awesome performance, and the win was well deserved. Also, a shoutout to 4488, 3250, 1868, and 2073! Upsetting a 254-973 alliance is no small feat, and you guys have much to be proud of on making it to the finals. Thanks for putting on a great event, I enjoyed watching it! |

Re: Chezy Champs 2016
Yet another stellar event in the books. Chezy Champs did not disappoint in any regard.
Congrats to the winners, 971, 1678, 604, and 2135. It was fun playing against you guys in the semis. The win is well deserved. Four beautiful robots from 4488, 3250, 1868, 2073. Congrats on your run into the finals. Thanks to our partners 968, 114, and 5817. We were stoked to finally get to play with 968. They're on the up and up again and we can't wait see how they do at Beach Blitz and the 2017 season. 114 and 5817 - Thanks for the solid defense and ball shuttling. This was key to our alliance's success in the quarters and critical if we were to have a fighting chance in the semifinals. Thank you to the volunteers and planning committee for another successful event. One big thing that I think merits recognition is how quickly and open to communicate Nick Eyre and the rest of the crew were. They were quick to notify teams of nearby road closures, schedule adjustments, etc. Thank you and congrats to everyone else! |
Re: Chezy Champs 2016
I, and Team 4, would also like to thank everyone that was at Chezy Champs this past weekend. 254 really knows how to throw a fun and professional event. Thank you to all the volunteers for your efficiency and generosity. There were only two of us setting up the pit on Friday evening (rest of the team flew in late) and a few very kind volunteers helped us out. Also, thank you to all the other teams who offered help to set up.
It was very fun playing with old friends again. And also very inspiring playing with and learning from teams we've never got to compete with before. I personally learned so much from many different teams. I now know the correct way to mount encoders. Big shout out to teams 5700, 399, and 1836. Thanks for joining our alliance and having the patience with us for our robot and communication issues. Special shout out to Keit for head reffing like a boss. |
Re: Chezy Champs 2016
Congratulations to all of the teams who competed hard with some of the best robots in the world at Chezy Champs.
Once again, Travis and 254 put on a stellar event to bring FRC to a whole new level of excitement. Thank you to all the volunteers for making every team's experience one to remember. Thank you to our dear friends, 971, for picking us and helping us put together a solid alliance. We were astonished that 604 and 2135 were both still available for our second and third pick. You are both solid teams and added that extra ingredient necessary to go up against the formidable 3rd seed alliance. Talking about the third seed alliance, when 4488 picked 3250, 1868 and 2073, I was already thinking that this would be our toughest opposition and that proved to be right. I especially want to give a big shout out to our friends 3250 who worked very hard in the off-season to improve their robot. You came out on fire from the beginning and continued to impress throughout the competition. I'd also like to mention a few other teams that continue to impress me. 5924, you followed up your great rookie season with a strong showing at Chezy Champs and showed us all that young teams can still build great robots. 3859 and 5012, you worked hard in the off-season to redesign or improve your shooters and ended up being two of the best high-goal robots in the competition. Lastly, kudos to 5499 for sticking in there when things were not going too well. After many frustrating matches and breakdowns, you finally pulled it all together in match 10 and scored several low-goal shots to help your alliance to a win and 4 RP's. 1678 is looking forward to seeing many of you at the next off season event, Capital City Classic, on October 22nd and 23rd. |
Re: Chezy Champs 2016
The first thing I would like to say about CC 2016 is a huge THANK YOU!!
Once again 254 put on a fantastic event! A specific Thank You goes to Nick Eyre for the incredible amount of hard work you put in for this event!! Quote:
I can barely express our gratitude to 4488 Shockwave for seeing in us the potential we have. They masterfully used all four alliance partners to execute 7 match strategies that were a thing of beauty. Trust me when I say, upsetting 254-973 and then going toe to toe with Giants like 971, 1678 and 604 and coming as close as we did is the highlight of my time in FIRST. Let's just say, today I have no voice. I also want to point out, if it were not for the help of our friends on 1678, we would not have been able to compete in the Finals match. We literally had our robot on it's side in the front of their pit at the beginning of Finals 1. With their help, we completely removed one of our drive transmissions and rebuilt it due to a stripped 2nd stage pinion. It was reassembled and ready to play in Finals 2, where we faced 1678. Tell me, where do you see that kind of behavior except in FIRST? I would be negligent if I didn't tip my hat to 3250, Kennedy Robotics. You guys absolutely KILLED it the entire tournament! It was an honor to stand shoulder to shoulder with you facing Giants! And as always, 1868 was another class act! It was a pleasure playing along side you again! We look forward to competing with you in 2017! Congratulations to 971, 1678, 604, and 2135 on winning Chezy Champs! |

Re: Chezy Champs 2016
Alliance #3 (4488, 3250, 1868, and 2073) deserves some extra recognition for being gracious professionals and using their time-out card for alliance #2 when they needed more time before their match. There's a reason these teams got to the finals - they "get it".
