.stl to .cube3 conversion

Team 2855 is trying to print our logo on our Ekocycle Cube printer. We have found that the current version of the Cubify software will not convert the file. We are wondering if anyone else has an older version of Cubify and would be willing to convert it for us. You can PM me and I can get the file to you.

Or, if anyone knows how to get the printer to recognize and print .stl files or any other type of standard file.

Thanks

If the ekocycle is like most lower-end FDM printers that I am familiar with, it won't be able to print directly from an STL, it must be sliced first. If the ekocyce software won't accept STL, you'd likely have to export from your CAD software it to a different file type, like .obj. I'm pretty sure you guys are using Solidworks, which can handle the conversion no problem. If you're still having trouble, I can stop by your shop anytime the next few days.

I actually figured out the problem: it was the file. It had some errors, such as missing a bottom (it was made in sketchup, due to the ability to draw over a drawing). It works now. Thanks though!

Would you mind posting your solution, in case anyone else is having a similar problem?

I'd be more than willing to review stl files for anyone, we have some software at Stratasys that is good at fixing any issues. Shoot me an email at evan.hochstein(at)stratasys.com

Re: .stl to .cube3 conversion

So, when I was drawing the file, I had made a rectangular plane so I could add the image to it as a texture. After I was done drawing the logo, I deleted the plane. That removed some relationships and the bottom of the model. It was able to be saved as a .obj file, but when opened in 3D Builder, it said there were errors in the file, but didn't prevent me from converting it to a .stl file. I opened it in Cubify, and it wouldn't build a print file, due to those errors.

Now, the way I fixed the problem was by redrawing the logo, but this time leaving the plane. I saved it as a .obj file, and opened it in 3D builder. It said that there were errors in the file, but this time, I believe it was because of the plane that had no volume. I was able to let 3D Builder repair the file, which removed the excess file. Then I was able to open it in Cubify and successfully convert the file to a .cube3 file.
