Who was the most successful at scoring in the high goal this past season without the use of a vision tracking system?

Champs didn't do the beautiful 1156 bot justice. They could score 6-8 high goals by themselves in one match easily when they weren't having drive train issues (which ended up being resolved completely before their last Champs qual match).

133 did a phenomenal job of using a flashlight for their aiming. While I do believe they used vision during auto, they were highly successful.

Batter shooters like 558 and 1058 didn't seem to use the camera at all but could consistently score lots of high goals by the end of the season.

Very few if any teams didn't use the camera in auton this year though - with the defense crossings it's hard to count on landing on the same spot every time.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong-

I think both 67 and 1538 were only using flashlights by the time CMP rolled around.

At our first regional when we didn't have vision processing Team 2052 was able to score 6 boulders max with just camera feed and cross hairs.

Someone correct me I am wrong too, but I believe 1024 Kil-A-Bytes didn't use vision processing?

I agree that champs didn't do 1156 under control justice. I had my eye on them ever since the Iowa regional and during champs they just unfortunately didn't perform as well due to issues, but I am looking forward to what machine 1156 makes next year.

120 did not use vision processing. They had a clear plastic sheet over the camera feed on their laptop with markings for the goal.

I would like to give a shout out to 5813, Morpheus, rookies from Concord, New Hampshire. They were putting at least 7-8(maybe more?) high goals in the Galileo division. They also had an effective intake/cheval mechanism and the capability to auto the Cheval.

Their robot was a great example of designing to one's capability, and they showed that vision wasn't needed to be elite. They were also very fun to work with at WPI and Battlecry!

1058 also comes to mind. I think I remember seeing them do 9-10 high goals in a match.

I second this. I remember after last year's Battle of the Bay, I gave them a shout-out for their crazy good off-season bot as a pre-rookie. Was beyond blown away with what they built for 2016 and how well both the robot and team performed, can't wait to see what this team does over the upcoming years.

I'll throw in my suggestion for 4564. #1 seed at WPI, Semifinalists, #1 seed at NECMP, Finalists, and only a flashlight.

You are correct that we used vision during auto. One thing that might not be so evident is that from our 2nd competition on, we actually had a vision check in the firing sequence. The primary driver (myself) would line up manually using the flashlight and a vertical crosshair on the driver station. The secondary driver would then attempt to fire. The vision processing code would run, and only if the diffX was within the acceptable bounds would it shoot. This saved us many potentially missed shots.

5813 Morpheus did fantastic this season; they are certainly one of my favorite rookies this year. In terms of robot design, they did everything right for a first year team. A relatively simple design that is well executed can perform exceptionally. If I remember correctly, they actually made a pre-season robot for recycle rush and competed in Battle of the Bay with it.
