Re: Ti MSP problems

Error 5000 is usually a timeout error of some kind. It might not be in this context, but it's likely. It means it just couldn't connect to the board. A few quick troubleshooting steps:
  • Does the board power on with the status LEDs on?
  • Are you running the application as root?
  • Have you restarted your computer recently?
  • Does the launchpad show up as a USB drive with the default firmware?

Another note, are you referencing the launchpad included in the 2015 KoP, the MSP420,or the earlier Stellaris one, introduced in the 13-14 seasons? The documentation for the MSP420 is here, while the Stellaris is here. Their physical appearance is different, so you should be able to tell them apart by just looking at them with the photos in those documentation files.

EDIT: At the bottom of the documentation, it answers the question you have as well:
Quote:

Q. When I try to download a program I encounter an error: Error 5000 Gamepad Tool.vi <ERR> Programmer didn't succeed. Check log file for details. Where can I find this log file?

A. Anytime the programmer is run, a file is generated with a time stamp at [Gamepad Tool]\Tools\mspdebug\Logs\ where [Gamepad Tool] is the tool installation directory. For 64 bit Windows this is C:\Program Files (x86)\FRC Gamepad Tool. In some cases the log files are not generated due to file permission error, to fix this, rerun the tool as administrator and a log file will appear.
