FTC has Curriculum now?

Got this interesting email from South Carolina's FTC AF this evening.

Quote:

FIRST has been listening and working in the background…

Attached please find a presentation from the Annual Partners’ Conference that I attended last week. This details two programs being developed and implemented to provide classroom support to the FIRST Tech Challenge teams. This also details information about how our program aligns with various standards criteria from different organizations. If you note the slide titled “Educational Standards Alignment” the NGSS Science alignment might look unfortunately low, but in actuality, this is because the skills addressed by FIRST Tech Challenge do not match when it comes to Chemistry and Biology as well as some of Physics. Now, if you take Technology or Engineering in this set of Standards FIRST Tech Challenge comes out with 100% alignment!

The curriculum being developed are as mentioned two different programs. The first, aka “FIRST Class”, is a FREE FIRST Tech Challenge oriented “introductory” course. It will be an on-line course with performance based assessment. It will have 8 or so modules which can be used in a mix and match form to facilitate the needs of the specific team or organization.

The second set of curricula is being jointly developed by FIRSTŪ, Intelitek, Pitsco Education, and the University of Iowa. It is a DUAL CREDIT course with credits being offered by the University of Iowa – generally considered targeted at Junior to Senior level in high school. It is NOT FREE. There is a financial investment necessary. It is being designed to use smaller robots based upon TETRIX and current robot control technology. This course is being piloted this Fall. FIRST is seeking additional schools to pilot the program if you are interested please contact me so I can put you in contact with the appropriate people.

Okay FIRST, this is a good start. Now the step is to get a university to offer a professional development for-credit course for teachers.

Hello,
I am in a great situation to test the curriculum. We are attempting to start a rookie team at the school I am moving to next year, Sage Academy in Brooklyn Park, MN. I would like to make FRC a class to make it equitable for all.. NO rides after school REQUIRED... as that can be a stumbling block for many students who attend. So if you could let me know more about these curriculum options I would appreciate it.. And please send me an email so we can start a dialog to Senorthey@gmail.com

Are you starting an FRC or an FTC team because the curriculum is for FTC.

If you're looking for FTC resources in Minnesota, High Tech Kids runs FTC in Minnesota and I would encourage you to get in contact with them.

If you're looking for curriculum, contact ftcteams@firstinspires.org

I am interested in piloting the FTC dual credit course. We are offering a robotics class to 10th-12th graders for the first time this fall. I currently coach an FLL team and 2 FTC teams, so being able to have a dual credit course that uses the technology that we are already using would be ideal for us. We were considering the option of an in-state dual credit course, but would have to purchase and compete the class in a VEX league, which would be a completely new set of equipment purchases. Please send me any and all info available on how to be a pilot school for the dual credit course - tshepherd@holysaviormenard.com
