Friendly nitpick/observation: the rule changes reference ELIMINATION MATCHES while the 2016 Official Game Manual refers to PLAYOFF MATCHES.

Yes I know that people still call them eliminations (myself too on occasion)... but c'mon, you know I had to...

To be fair, IRI still uses the non-serpentine picking rules of pre-2008. Perhaps they are referring to these matches as ELIMINATION MATCHES as they are still following the rules of when these matches were referred to as such? :p

In the QF matches between 3 and 6 (QF 4) it was Blue, Tie, Red with Red moving on. Why wasn't a 4th match played (per local rule 10). Or was there a fourth match and TBA didn't understand?

A fourth match was played and the Red alliance did win 2 matches.

TBA likely isn't set up for it to work like this.

EDIT: FIRST isn't reporting it correctly either.

I would speculate that it's the FMS automatically breaking the tie rather than TBA or FIRST reporting it wrong.

I might get a little crap for posting this, but YES. I was scorekeeper during eliminations, so I can (briefly) explain.

FMS counted the second match as a win for red (as the stock tiebreaking algorithm was in use). We then played the tiebreaker as the third match, and since red won (forcing a 4th match), we replayed the tiebreaker. We would have had to replay either that or the tiebreaker for the 4th match to ensure correct advancement.

I won't give specifics, but often the rule changes at IRI require some workarounds to execute in FMS. Usually they are minor and unless you were working the scoring table (like me) you would never notice.

---

Congrats to 2056, 118, 33, and 4587 on the win. They were great matches to watch (and in my case, scorekeep).

That is correct. Like Larry said above me, they would have needed to replay one of the matches, since there are only minimal changes for FMS in the off-season (it's basically the same as the in-season version). And when you replay a match, it overwrites the score. That's why you see TBA and the FIRST website only report three matches. In the representation of the data that FMS publishes and TBA sees, QF4M4 is actually the second play of QF4M3 (or whichever), and it overwrites the first play of QF4M3

Glad to see that you all were able to make the technology work! I liked that rule change, the tie and doing tiebreakers isn't a good crowd experience.

Hopefully FIRST will follow the IRI elmins in the future.

Thanks for the behind the scenes look at the scoring table. Maybe one of the webcasts can do a feature on how the scoring works.

While I personally would be cool with that, I get the idea that the powers that be want to publicly show all that happens back there. It a key volunteer secret more or less... but I'm more than willing to take questions privately.

I tried out being a scorekeeper at a local offseason and it was a great position. If someone will let me I'd love to do it again. F4 could do something similar as pre recorded content. We will look into the concept if enough people are interested.
