New Vex Motor Controller?

In a recent interview by Tested a representative of Hex bug talked about their sister company VEX and how they plan on making a new motor controller soon.

Does this new motor contoller by VEX mean that it will be allowed for FRC? or Just for BattleBots?

Personally I hope for Both.

I believe I saw it somewhere. It's a much more powerful motor that what we've had, similar in style to a Victor SP or Talon SRX. The only place I could find info on it was here: http://www.ampflow.com/vex_motor_speed_controller.htm. I'm fairly certain this is the motor controller they're talking about, but I could be wrong. It's not even on the VEX website.

Innovation First (back when it was known as IFI Robotics, pre-Vex) used to have a pretty large range of Victors that weren't FRC-legal, all designed for bigger/badder applications. Higher voltages, larger currents, forward-only spin controllers (so all the FETs could be applied to that direction), things like that. As time passed and the combat robot craze cooled those slowly died off, and then the conversion to the current Victor SP/Talon SRX form factor was another nail in the coffin.

Reading through the manual linked from AmpFlow, they're definitely not screwing around with this new model. I'm intrigued by the PID current control.

At champs, CTRE showed off a new motor controller called the cyclone. Does anyone know if that controller is also being made in partnership with VEX (as the SRX was?)

The new one was designed for Battlebots and was used by a number of competitors in season 2.
