[FTC]: Shipping Charges
 

I am getting ready to register and order FTC parts. Is it just me or shipping charges rather inflated?
Shipping to Canada gives 2 options:

• UPS Ground $295.68 (USD)
• UPS Worldwide Expedited $267.68 (USD)

The UPS Worldwide Expedited number looks about right, but the UPS Ground number does seem awfully high to me.

(I ran an estimate of shipping from Chicago to your postal code, with 25 lbs [which is probably a bit high, but IDK], and got the attached results)

I looked at it again and there is a break down of the shipping charges:

Shipping (CA): $61.20
Shipping Taxes/Fees: 94.46
Shipping VAT: 63.15
Shipping Duties: 76.87
Total: $295.68

and other one

Shipping (CA): $104.90
Shipping Taxes/Fees: 22.76
Shipping VAT: 63.15
Shipping Duties: 76.87
Total: $267.68

Shipping Taxes/Fees + Shipping VAT = $157.61
and
Shipping Taxes/Fees + Shipping VAT = $85.91

that's where draconian overkill charges are coming from :mad:

Can any of these pieces be purchased through a Canadian supplier to avoid the higher duties and shipping fees?

Yes, but because ordering from different sources I still came up to $100 CAD or so more. Here is where I sourced parts.
Electronics Modules from Modern Robotics
Competition set from http://www.studica.com/ca/en/TetrixM...ition-set.html
Phones and game pads from Staples.ca (local pick up)
USB hub from Amazon.ca
OTG adapter from MemoryExpress.com (local pick up)

If I have to order from different sources, I think I'll skip Tetrix set and will go for Actobotics insted
