Weird Habits

I never really noticed my own weird habits until my friends adapted them. I find bits and pieces of my friends in the course of my day.

I have a habit of randomly repeating what others have said as an insult. Example:

Friend: I was having troubles with the toaster this morning.
and I would reply "You are a troubled toaster"

I also take on some of my friends habits. Example:
One of my friends randomly uses a new jersy accent in her words, now I have no reason at all to be using a new jersey accent and connecting my words. She says "Ya Y'are" just randomly.

It's just weird when you find bits and pieces of your friends in yourself.

What's wrong with saying "yeah y'are"? It's not my fault that my dad's side of the family (whom I spent most of my time with as a young child) is from New Jersey! ;)

Yeah, thanks to you I insult people with random things ... ... ...

I think I say "dude" too much.

Oh well, I'm from Northern California, we're supposed to do that...

At least I don't go around saying "hella" all the time...

Um...weird habits...

I randomly poke people in the sides or arms, but now as I keep doing it more my friends have all started too...

And there is my random hugging...

I also have random sayings of mine that my friends also now copy...

I also pick up thinks from them...

When I don't know somebody's name I tend to use DUDE

Chris Nowak 03-11-2002 20:37

yeah, I tend to pick up on words and phrases which I hear other people use often. This has ranged from "dude" to "yo" to even "hella" at one point or another. Kind of a tribute to the diversity of the place where I live, ya?

Kristina 03-11-2002 20:39

just for clarification about "hella"...

despite the fact that no doubt, a so cal band, had that song that I detest so greatly: hella good (oh dear, I went screaming out of the room everytime i heard that song), its specifically a northern california thing. you can watch all us southern california people cringe everytime we hear anyone say that word...especially since i'm now in the dorm environment where its a mix of northern and southern california.

as for weird habits, being self diagnosed as obsessive compulsive, basically everything i do is weird. alphabetizing, color coding, organizing, rearranging everything! Baking randomly is another weird habit: 4 dozen cookies, 3 dozen rice krispie treats, 2.5 dozen pumpkin muffins, 1 pumpkin loaf, 4 dozen brownies in one day! The list is too long to list all the other stuff...

sanddrag 03-11-2002 20:43

there is a brand of off-road headlights called Hella...

Suneet 03-11-2002 21:23

I read The Great Gatsby a little while ago, and now I'll call people "old sport" from time to time... it worries me...

I came back from Nationals last year and I started saying Y'all not only that but i have a habit of calling people Kid if I dont kno their name even if they are older---dont ever call a senior kid as a Junior they tend to not like it--hehehe--and I tend to have the worst comebacks--which I will not repeat now---of course with me being from MASS i have some odd Bostonian habits from my relatives from time to time I call Soda-Tonic

Yeah, that's true but on our team, there is one person that calls everyone "kid." Even the freshman and sophomores on our team dislike that name. I don't even like it.

(<-----Junior)
