Autodesk Inventor Required Space
I'm a SolidWorks user, but a class I'm taking requires Autodesk Inventor, so I'm installing that on my computer. First thing I notice is that the program requires 25 GB. I'm not sure if SolidWorks ever required so much space, but this does alarm me, because I'm running out of space on my laptop. So based on the image below, is there anything I absolutely don't need? Like, with this software, I might want to make a few parts/assemblies... maybe a few machine drawings, but other than that, I'm not so sure.
![]() ... Even better, is it possible to install Inventor on a flashdrive? I have multiple 32 GB flashdrives available. |
Re: Autodesk Inventor Required Space
Don't install it to a flash drive. You won't be happy. You can likely do without all the other stuff.

Re: Autodesk Inventor Required Space
You definitely don't need Recap for FRC work unless you have a 3d scanner handy. Probably don't need the electrical catalog browser either. Unless you're planning to migrate to them for data management, no need for vault or Autodesk 360. The content center libraries are where Inventor keeps things like standard fasteners and are very useful for doing actual work, but if you're just using it for a class they may not see use.

That said, I do recommend getting the Inventor HSM plugin if you plan to do any work with CAM. |
Re: Autodesk Inventor Required Space
I'd recommend installing Inventor, and only one or two Content Libraries to start (say ANSI and ISO). That will greatly reduce the footprint.
I would recommend NOT skipping all of the libraries up front, as it is a bit trickier to get them installed thereafter. |
