What happened to the CAGE Match website? Wasn't it http://thecagematch.com ? It's not appearing on the google search for "Cage match robotics" like it used to. Thanks.

Hi CD
Here are the updated rules for CAGE Match 2016.
Enjoy!

Quote:

CAGE Match will play FIRST Stronghold according to the 4/19/16 (latest) revision of the manual, except where denoted below. In general CAGE Match is an event used by many teams as an introductory and training experience, as such officiating will be relaxed. Any issues or questions will be handled by the head ref only. Gracious Professionalism and Coopertition are always expected!

Tower Strength
3.1.4 The Tower strength will be 10 for all matches

Boulders
G33 BOULDERS may only be introduced to the FIELD
A. during TELEOP,
B. by a DRIVER or HUMAN PLAYER,
C. through one of the holes in the HUMAN PLAYER STATION.
D. Over the Driver's Station wall only in the last 20 seconds of the match. There is no restriction to the zone the boulders must land in, any boulder landing outside of the FIELD will be reintroduced by a ref or field crew. If a boulder is scored directly into the tower, they will count as a scored boulder.
Violation: FOUL per BOULDER

G38 ROBOTS may not control more than one (1) BOULDER at any time.
Driving over or getting stuck on a boulder while holding another boulder will not be a violation of G38.
Violation: FOUL per extra BOULDER

Defenses
5.5.10 In QUALIFICATIONS - Defenses will be randomly selected / placed per the details below. The placement will be defined in advance and will change every 4 matches. There will be no Audience Selection of Defenses.

B. Ramparts or Moat
C. Sally Port or 2 stacked Yellow Totes (yep, those totes…)
D. Rough Terrain or Rock Wall
E. Low Bar (Always in play and in position 1.)
The Cap Ball and Totes will use a new, unique base plate, it will be a mostly flat plate.

5.5.10 In ELIMINATIONS - Defenses will be selected by the opposing alliance (Category and Placement, except Low Bar) per the categories below. There will be no Audience Selection of Defenses.
A. Cheval de Frise or 1x FTC Cap Ball (21.6” uncovered yoga ball Red, Blue)
B. Ramparts or Moat
C. Sally Port or 2 stacked Yellow Totes
D. Rough Terrain or Rock Wall
E. Low Bar (Always in play and in position 1.)
The Cap Ball and Totes will use a new, unique base plate, it will be a mostly flat plate.

G12-1 ROBOTS may not deliberately use FIELD elements (e.g. BOULDERS, Totes, yoga balls, etc), in an attempt to ease or amplify the challenge associated with other FIELD elements, e.g. DEFENSES.
Violation: FOUL. For every five (5) seconds in which the situation is not corrected, FOUL

G12-2 Robots may not use FIELD elements (e.g. BOULDERS, Totes, yoga balls, etc), to block the EMBRASURES or their opponent's ability to collect boulders from their Human Players Station
Violation: Boulders may be introduced over the driver’s station wall. There is no restriction to the zone the boulders must land in, any boulder landing outside of the FIELD will be reintroduced by a ref or field crew. If a boulder is scored directly into the tower, they will count as a scored boulder. A referee’s signal will indicate the EMBRASURES are blocked

CAGE Match - Ghosts of FIRST Games Past.

Re: CAGE Match 2016

If a yoga ball or yellow tote inadvertently blocks an EMBRASURE, and the team goes to clear it out, is that team responsible for any SECRET PASSAGE incursion penalties? To be more clear, which would be a higher priority: keeping the SECRET PASSAGE clear of opposing robots, or keeping the EMBRASURES clear of field elements? This could escalate to a DIYDDIYD situation pretty easily, at no fault of the robot or alliance.

There is no penalty for blocking the EMBRASURES, it just shifts the actions of the human players. The penalties for contact in the secret passage would still apply.

Thanks

Could you clarify on how the totes and yoga ball obstacles will be crossed?

Danny Blau 30-09-2016 09:49

Re: CAGE Match 2016

The totes and yoga balls are classified as game pieces just like the boulders. To cross those defenses the robot will need to remove the Totes/ball (bulldozing or otherwise) and then drive over the remaining flat plate.

Also for reference:

Watch some old videos from FIRST Stack Attack. I imagine that's what it'll look like. Also, I am very much looking forward to videos from this competition.

Will yoga balls and totes that end up in the tower be scored similar to boulders?
Will fouls be assessed for popped or damaged yoga balls?
Can a robot control a boulder and a tote/yoga ball at the same time without incurring a foul?

Neither the yoga balls or totes fit in the tower openings, do not try an force them. Furthermore there is no point value for a 'scored' tote/yoga ball.

No, unless it is deemed intentional by the referees.

The totes and yoga balls are not subject to the possession/control rule and therefore, no fouls will be assigned.

Hope this helps
Danny
