Best Event Giveaways
What are the best giveaways at events? We gave out buttons, tote bags, and keyboards last year. What is something fun and/or useful? Season is fast approaching!
|
Re: Best Event Giveaways
Since your name is Cooler Master, I think an awesome thing to do would be motor coolers. AndyMark sells one made by NextGen Robotics, but I've heard not great things about it (link). One for the 775Pro could be nice too. Even if it's not as a giveaway, you could sell these, and I would bet many teams would buy some.

Re: Best Event Giveaways
Maybe some backpacks? I know that I would definetly use one, especially at competition, as I always have a backpack on me.
|
Re: Best Event Giveaways
It might be a little expensive, but multitools would be really useful and cool!
|
Re: Best Event Giveaways
A few years back (ok, I think maybe it was the first year of the Duluth Regional?) Nvidia gave out a new GPU to each team. As a team we used it to put together a new computer for CADing and that ended up being my first exposure to CAD. Probably the best/most favorite giveaway I can remember as now I use CAD everyday at work.

Re: Best Event Giveaways
Probably my favorite giveaway was a few years back when the Air Force was giving out multitools with two double sided screwdriver bits, a flashlight, and a level. I keep mine in my purse and I use it all the time. Other favorites have been safety glasses (you can never have too many), safety glass croakies (love my AndyMark ones), and permanent and dry erase markets (because we always manage to lose ours).

Re: Best Event Giveaways
My favorite is either my toothbrush from
3940 or my pig from 1902. |

There are already quite a few low-cost COTs heatsinks and fan combo’s which can fit onto 550’s and BAG’s( mainly aimed at the R/C market) eg. http://www.integy.com/st_main.html?p...8#.Vz2jkPl97IU I designed a 3D printable cooler a few months ago which used a 40mm fan to draw air through the motor. It is similar in design the EBMpapst’s ICE box rs775 cooler that was included in the 2014 KOP( as far as I am aware). Something like this which could be given out would be very useful but unfortunately it doesn’t look like CM sells fans that are small enough to make a system for the 775pro practical ( 40mm or 60mm is ideal). A Cooler ( either injection moulded or thin sheet metal) that uses the 40mm fans that are already donated in the KOP( the KOP fans aren’t very powerful at all so a high flow-rate Server fan would probably be better) would be useful but it would be important for more of the Coolers to be able to be purchased or acquired by teams. In regards to giveaways to team members, I would be happy with some nice stickers to put on my laptop :) |
Best Event Giveaways
Honestly, I like anything that's free. Some things that stand out from this season:

Re: Best Event Giveaways
It'd be really cool if we could get FIRST color scheme Coolermaster stickers.
However, in terms of best giveaways, I remember NVIDIA's given out 8GB USB sticks a few years ago. In 2014, one of my teammates won an NVIDIA Jetson for coming first in their Forza setup, but idk if that qualifies as a "giveaway". Lanyards are always a really great giveaway from teams. I still cherish my Bomb Squad one. Edit: Almost forgot about the koalas that 3132 gives out. Those are awesome too. |
Re: Best Event Giveaways
We have a tape measure from 4707 that still gets used pretty regularly.
|
Re: Best Event Giveaways
Team 999 3D printed custom battery inserts for every team at Hartford with our team number on it. That was really cool.
|
Re: Best Event Giveaways
I like squeeze toys, especially the Bomb Squad's bombs and Exploding Bacon's pigs.
The best volunteer giveaway I have seen recently was the 2600 mAh Xoopar XG11012 power bank we received at IRI. Oh, and the crocheted whale was given by 5839 Blue Whales, from Nanjing, China. |

As for my favorite/unique/interesting giveaways, so far I have: - A tube of Chapstick from 2640, supposedly pink lemonade flavored(I haven't used it) - Wristbands from several teams, one of which is checkered, but made of paper. I don't remember who gave them out. - A red stress ball that came from a company at the Innovation Faire, NRG IIRC - Buttons! Including a limited number Arsenal button from 118, two FRC buttons, an Nvidia button that says "I made the droid you're looking for", and a few from other companies - And the most interesting/unique of all of them: a wooden magic wand and a bottle of liquid with glitter. Someone was walking around the pits on Saturday at CMP. I don't have it nearby, but I think it was team 5000-something. |
Re: Best Event Giveaways
There was a team at Utah last year that gave out safety-related coloring books. Pretty awesome.

I got a copy of Solidworks 2011 back at the champs in 2012 from 51.

Re: Best Event Giveaways
Avoid the junky gimmicks and stick with things that are useful:
Pens, screwdrivers, USB flash drives, USB power pack charger things for your phone, measuring devices, etc. At trade shows, bags are useful, to collect all the other brochures from other vendors. CNC machined giveaways are cool too, in the right context. The nVidia video cards were cool. For cooler master, what about a cooler, like, for drinks? The best giveaway I've ever seen would be a motorcycle at SkillsUSA and a waterjet at IMTS. |
Re: Best Event Giveaways
Pens.
We gave Pens |
Re: Best Event Giveaways
My favorite giveaway was a transforming pen that I got from 2228.
I played with it so much it broke within 30 minutes. |
Re: Best Event Giveaways
My list of favorites:
1. The stuffed koalas from a team from Australia (3132), I can't remember what team and I can't get the koala now because I stepped on it accidentally and it broke. RIP my little friend. 2.Boeing gave out those speakers that you can attach to things to make THOSE things into speakers to whoever, and selfie sticks to whoever would take a selfie and post it on social media with some hashtag, I would never buy a selfie stick, but I wasn't going to turn down a free one 3. Team 2783 had a smashed penny machine, I love smashed pennies, and it's a great idea for a giveaway, wither the person can supply their own pennies for whatever spare change they ended up getting, OR you leave out a small pile of pennies for people to use in the machine, either the giveaway costs you 0 or 1 cent per item 4. 1736 ROBOT CASSEROLE gave out stress toys shaped like little chef hats, I didn't really use it but it was nice enough to mention it. 5. Team 3238 gave out little packets of stuff for CPR preparedness like a mask, gloves, rubbing alcohol wipe, and instruction card. And an honorable mention to 4525 for an FRC trading card game (which wasn't a giveaway you had to order it on their website and then they would give you it the next day at comp) and for having a button series I actually WANTED to collect all of the copies for. |

Actually, I've thought a little more about this. I think my favorite FRC give away I've ever received is chocolate covered macadamia nuts from 368.

Re: Best Event Giveaways
Two Sigma always gives away comfy shirts at NYC.
I was constrained to the pits this year, so I didn't manage to get one in my size. However, our captain got a second one for herself (a small. I wear a medium) and to my surprise it fit me perfectly :) |

Re: Best Event Giveaways
At Tech Valley, Team Rembrandts (4481) gave Dutch stroopwaffels to everyone waiting outside before the doors opened. Those were tasty.

Re: Best Event Giveaways
The NYC Regional has always had some cool stuff given away. For ultimate Ascent I got some of the foldable "frisbees"( not sure if they are classified as actual frisbees or just flying fabric.)
Con Ed always gives out bags of some sort, usually string bags. One year they had great ones with shoulder straps like backpacks. Meaning when it got heavy with lots of items it wouldn't dig into your shoulders. Sadly mine ripped. 1511 gave us paracord bracelets when we were their alliance partners. One of the turkish teams this year at Javitis came over giving out Turkish chocolates, which were amazing. I was happy to find out i could by them nearby. 2013 Champs Grainger gave away tons of desk organizes, they came with pens, pencils, a stapler, staple remover, paper clips and other objects of the sort. Mine didn't make the flight back sadly. I stupidly packed it away in my suitcase underneath my laptop, and TSA was not happy with that one. |
Re: Best Event Giveaways
Deodorant.

I definitely understand. On the other hand, if some team gave me a random stick of deodorant I probably wouldn't use it, even if it was sealed. |

Not really, just don't use products like that when I don't buy them myself. Sure others are similar. |

Re: Best Event Giveaways
Practical things are great. Earbuds, phone chargers (cords and USB wall plugs), battery banks, carabiners, mini Sharpies, flash drives, screwdrivers/screwdriver kits, t-shirts.
Also, I just mentioned these in another thread, but glove belt clips are super useful, especialy since every drive team is going to be using gloves. I know you can get these customized with logos and such, just not sure where. |
Re: Best Event Giveaways
My favorite event giveaway of all time was not from a robotics event, but a church convention. Episcopal church insurance gave away a pocket whisk broom that was about the size of a fairly large Swiss army knife when stowed, but push the button and slide down, and it made a great little broom. Unfortunately, it took terminal damage during a demo of a (way down-scaled) non-parallel linkage launcher during the Aerial Assault build season when I launched the little broom one time too many, or more precisely when it hit the hard floor one time too many.

Re: Best Event Giveaways
My collection of squeezeballs, etc, is in two medium-size FTC Rolling Goals from Cascade Effect.
The koala I had hanging off my castle hat, but it needed something to keep it from falling off so I kept it in my pocket for safe-keeping. |
Re: Best Event Giveaways
Something like this would be kind of awesome:
Some team needs to convert their give-away fund for some of these: Custom Leathercraft 1104 Multi-Purpose Poly Tool Holder This would be especially cool if via collaboration with another team, you included flashlight, Clips, Possibly an inexpensive multi-tool. I was also a big fan of "BOB rags". Shop towels with BOB (FRC 85) logo on it. |
Re: Best Event Giveaways
One of my favorites was the bandanna from Redneck Robotics (Team 3998). It gave us a place to pin our other buttons and look awesome at the same time.

T-shirts.
Seriously, Cooler Master t-shirts would be cool. Just as long as the cloth is soft and the shirt design itself is reasonably colorful/interesting, I think people would like this idea (I certainly would). |

Re: Best Event Giveaways
4481 (Team Rembrandts) passed out stroopwaffels at Champs in 2015
624 (Cryptonite) gives out pens that actually work well 1255 (Blarglefish) gives out eye glass retaining straps that work well for keeping your safety glasses around your neck so you don't lose them. |
