BunnyBots 2016

BunnyBots, now in it’s 9th year, is the highlight of the fall season for many teams in the PNW. Teams build FRC-class robots for a unique, whimsical game to gain the skills they’ll need during the FRC season. They also have a blast!

Round-a-BOUT is played by two alliances of three robots each. After a 10 second autonomous period, the 2:20 teleop period begins. During teleop, robots race around the track in a figure-8 pattern trying to cross as many track lines as possible, all while dodging Nerf darts launched by other robots. Significant points are also awarded for depositing stuffed bunnies into a burrow.

BunnyBots takes place Dec 17th at Catlin Gabel School in Portland, Oregon.

See all the rules and register at www.team1540.org/bunnybots.

Post any questions here, this and the facebook page https://www.facebook.com/bunnybots1540/ are the official Q&A areas for the game. Subscribe to this thread for the latest announcements and rule updates.

The rules have been updated to 1.1. Mainly clarifications about Nerf darts in the "Subtractions" section. Also note under Robot rules that the height of the Nerf gun can't exceed 30" and can't tilt up. We're trying to avoid the pummeling of little kids in the audience with Nerf darts.

Looks like a fun game. A couple of quick notes:

-It appears that although red cards may be issued they have no effect.
-Robots can only start on their alliance's half of the field but which part of the field belongs to each alliance does not appear to have been defined.

Re: BunnyBots 2016

Red cards zero your score just like FRC.

The point about defining your alliances side of the field is a good one, we'll include that. Your side is the side closest to the drivers, the one with your color burrow.

Re: BunnyBots 2016

Teams have raised some good points so another rule tweak for V1.12. Clarifications that dart hits still count against robots protected from defense because they are over a burrow. Clarification that there is no limit to the number of bunnies a robot can possess. Clarification on attachments, you must leave the pit lane under 120lbs but can bring more than that to the field in the form of attachments. Lastly, you can’t occupy the opposing alliance’s empty pit lane for more than 5 seconds.

Here's what the Stronghold manual says:

Quote:

RED CARD

A penalty assessed for egregious ROBOT or FIRST Robotics Competition Team member behavior, or repeated rule violations, which results in a Team being DISQUALIFIED for the MATCH.
This is different because a score of 0 can result in a tie.

Dale 02-09-2016 19:42

Re: BunnyBots 2016

A zero-zero tie wouldn't matter in qualifications because both teams would get zero qualification points anyway. In elims we'd declare a winner of the team who didn't get a red card.

Re: BunnyBots 2016

Are there any CAD models/images of the field with dimensions we can use, or is the one in the rulebook all there is?

Our CV programmer is dying to test neural nets.

Re: BunnyBots 2016

Afraid not. Borders in BunnyBots are just 4x4s laying on the carpet anyway so dimensions wouldn't do you much good. Any autonomous mode would be well served using sensors.

Are you willing to divulge your bunny supplier?

Despondent three year olds at orphanages across Portland

Seriously, most of them came from the Goodwill and vary considerably in style. Teams get to pick from the pile under their table.

Anyone found any datasheets or CAD models for nerf guns?

Excellent, our programmers will have to make a good neural net then!

The best place to get data might be the nerd wiki. CAD modelse however are little to no existent in my experience.

I made a BunnyBots Countdown

Re: BunnyBots 2016

BunnyBots 2016 is now full at 25 robots. We can consider a second robot from one more team as our biggest constraint is gym bleachers, not pit space.

Re: BunnyBots 2016

A small update to the BunnyBot Rules has been posted at www.team1540.org/bunnybots. Here are the changes:

Update on how burrows are attached to the floor. “These are firmly attached to a 36” x 36” x .16 aluminum plate that is taped to the floor with 4” gaffers tape on all four sides.”

Also an addition to the Penalty section: “Robot drivers should get enough practice before the event to be able to avoid repeatedly hitting the burrows. Robots that make a habit of doing so will receive 10 point penalties at the referee’s discretion."

Finally, clarification on what impeding the flow of the game means with regards to stealing bunnies. Basically don't stop people from going around the figure eight.

LIVE STREAM
The event will be live streamed on Dec 17th so check it out. Qualification matches start at 10:00am PST with alliance selection at 3:00pm PST followed by elimination matches. On the day go to www.team1540.org/bunnybots

I'm very excited for bunnybots this year! Hopefully the 30th is all clear.
So proud of the students on 2471! They have been working and learning very hard this pre-season.

Since your team has won BunnyBots every year in recent memory I can only imagine what it means for your team to be working especially well this season:ahh:

See you (hopefully) on the 30th!

Re: BunnyBots 2016

All indications are that the weather will be back to our typical pattern on Friday, Dec 30th so barring unforeseen weather or national disaster BunnyBots will take place on that day as rescheduled. Teams are welcome to load into their pits Thursday Dec 29th from 1:00 to 6:00pm if they like. We plan to have the field set up by 2:00pm should you want to do a little driving practice Thursday.

Live stream will be up Friday morning at www.team1540.org/bunnybots

Re: BunnyBots 2016

The inspection checklist for BunnyBots 2016 is now live. Please pre-inspect your robots before coming as there will be limited time on Friday.

This is also on www.team1540.org/bunnybots.

Bunnybots was a fantastic event and learning opportunity once again this year, so I want to thank everyone who helped run it! I think everyone on Team Mean Machine had a great time, and the game was a blast all around.

Re: BunnyBots 2016

Thanx for having BunnyBot event. This year our team has 11 rookies and only 3 veterans. BunnyBots was an ideal introduction to FRC. The one day format makes it affordable for a rural team.
