Graduation Distinction

I thought of this while reading the Robotics letter thread, and didn't want to clutter that with another topic.

In my school, at graduation, Forensics members and FBLA members graduate with special distinction. I think they only wear a special color cord or something with their gown, but it's still something. I was wondering if anyone's school had a similar distinction for Robotics?

Haha, that'd be great! I could see someone doing that too ...

I don't think anyone at our school graduates with distinction. Maybe NHS members, but I think that's it ...

You can ride up on a Segway or have your diploma given to you by your robot.

At my high school they have the names of the people on the team that graduated in the program that they hand out. Can't remember if they read the names though. Ogre would be of more help.

Hehe. I'm graduating with distinction...well...so maybe my school doesn't know about it...but still! I plan on wearing my Chucks at graduation :D They're ratty, mismatched, Converse All-Star high-tops. It shall be interesting when the principal yells at me...but I really couldn't care less :)

*chuckle* But will they fill the bill for you to run from the principal to the county seat?

evulish 11-11-2002 21:34

Haha. Run? Whats ruuuun? I'm overweight and he's ex-military. :D Flubber wouldn't even help me (but a Segway might)!

Yeah, there is also no big deal if you participated in Robotics, only if you participated for 4 years they announce your name and you stand up at our Honors Convocation...a different cord would be cool, cuz im not getting the gold one....:(

[edit] Sigh....I also just hit Post a Holic....

Ashley Weed 11-11-2002 22:27

I think if all else fails.... I will wear a team or operator button on my gown..... and borrow some chucks :)

Oooorr...You could put that incredibly stupid monster logo on the top of your hat :D That would kick some serious bot.

This got me thinking. Why doesn't FIRST do more to recognize it's graduating Seniors? Especially those of us in since we were freshmen. I think it would really be memorable for them to give us something special, like a cord or little medallion or something.

Ashley Weed 15-11-2002 21:34

That would be a good idea to have something standard that FIRST would create. Maybe it is something that could be brought up... perhaps after the announcement of the CE.

If anyone thinks of something to distinguish themselves with at graduation, let me know. I would be willing to bring it up to the school boards in my team. Or if anyone has ideas on how to bring the suggestion to the school board, and let them figure out the distinction.

If a type of cord is used, it would be neat to have them made in team colors, and then if you are a floor team member, have something different on the ends of them. (same concept as forensics)

Thanks for the input!
