2017 Miami Valley Regional (formerly Queen City)

Just in - The Miami Valley Regional is the new home of the former Queen City Regional. Look for exciting changes at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. We hope to deliver a great experience to all teams attending our new home. Registration opens this Thursday! Spots will fill quickly in this Week 2 event!

2017 Miami valley Regional (formerly Queen City)

Well its official, The Miami Valley Regional will be Week 2 at Wittenberg University in Springfield, OH this year. Formerly known as the Queen City Regional. Since the Cintas Center is going to be under construction right after the Basketball season we were forced to relocate the event. Although we will be at a different venue, we are expecting to provide the same level of excellence that has become the expectation at QCR. We are still finalizing several details but expect to be posting information as we can. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Thank you!

I've merged three separate threads about the 2017 Miami Valley Regional into a singular one. Let's try to not make duplicate posts and search before posting.

I immediately went to the Regional Competitions Forum, didn't see it and since I am the one who posts every year I didn't think there would already be one. Guess Dave and I will need to have a talk. :D

I guess we are just too EXCITED about the new location!

We're strongly considering attending this regional this year because Rocket City is the same week as our home regional.

Just to clarify, you anticipate slots filling quickly for this event? How many slots will there be?

Based on the surrounding events and the Hardship associated with Back-to-Back events we suspect being a Week 2 event will cause us to fill up quickly. Given that we have held back 15 spots for Rookie teams and Ohio Veteran teams. Historical we have teams in Ohio that take a while to register due to administrative hurdles within the school PO system and such.

Gotcha. So there are 45 slots for the event and 15 are held? I was just curious because the listed amount of 35 was oddly low for a regional.

Is 15 the number of teams you anticipate for the first registration date next Thursday? We're also trying to gauge if we need to make this one our first so that we can have a spot or that we'll be relatively safe making it our second.

There are 50 spots, with 15 held. The Hold Back is the number of slots we are reserving for late registering Rookies or Veteran teams stumbling with getting PO's in place for registration. Typically all Regional's hold back at least 10 spots. We decided to hold back a few more based on our location and the other scheduled events.

So is this move going to be just a one year thing or a more long term move?

I think we will be coming if we can get in. It is close enough for us to commute rather than get hotels, so there will be a substantial savings in the cost for students.

That is unknown at this time.

I figured. Well thank you to everyone involved for all the hard work keeping the regional running this year despite the loss of venue.

Sorry, but what dates are week two this year? Is this the same weekend as Greater Pittsburgh?

Right now, MVR is not showing up when checking for regionals in OH (QCR is listed). Will it be available for a first selection?

If you don't mind, just out of curiosity, why the name change?

Since it's not located in within the "Queen City". We felt it only made sense. Additionally the name we chose was due to the fact the Miami Valley includes a broad area so if we have to move again, we shouldn't have to change the name again.

Just registered. Open capacity was 35, was 31 when I clicked register, was 21 after I registered and is now...Crashed.

I tried to register, and crash. I am infuriated right now.

We got registered before the Great Crash Part 2. Remains to be seen if they will reset.

Opening back up. Now at 18 spots left.

Hope all that need to get in to MVR can! Sadly, Week 2 is a conflict for a major event at our school so we'll be missing out on competing at MVR this year.

I intend to volunteer and bring a few Beaks along with me.

Good luck to all attempting to register!

Awesome! Yeah it was either that weekend or the same weekend as Buckeye. This year was hard.

Well, we finally got in. 26th try. Took about 40 minutes. Ugh! Now we can start focusing on more interesting tasks.

The planning committee met last week and decided to clear the waitlist. We have 7 teams on it.

Re: 2017 Miami Valley Regional (formerly Queen City)

By "clear", is that everyone who was on it is in? Or nobody who was on the wait list is in? I don't see any new teams on the team lists (which is why I'm asking)

Clearing the waitlist always means letting the teams in. How the process works is the teams are emailed and asked if they want to still go and then FIRST waits for a response. As the teams respond then they are added. Our initial number of open spots was 35 and we are currently at 37 so 2 teams have cleared the waitlist and been added. We are opening it up to 45 now, 7 waitlisted teams plus 3 open spots, and still holding back 5 spots for late registering teams.

That's different from how it works elsewhere.
How come you decided to query teams before pulling them off the waitlist?
Is there a historic problem with admitting teams not really intending to come?

Not sure, that's how its worked as far as I know. Whenever our team has been on a waitlist that is how we have always come off the waitlist into an event. My assumption was they wanted to make sure the team still wanted to go vs. having the intention to go elsewhere or not go at all.

Regional differences I guess. I'd just never heard of it before you mentioned it.
We just came off a waitlist here in NY and I just got the standard automated "you came off the waitlist" message.
My direct experience with waitlists is limited to East Coast events.

Different Regional Director. I'm sure each have their own preference for how they do it. Maybe a team who has come off the list can let us know. Our Planning Committee has no authority over that. The RD handles all of it.

Re: 2017 Miami Valley Regional (formerly Queen City)

Many of us had our first look at the new venue last night. We see several advantages from the Cintas Center and some challenges we are already working to mitigate.

There is only 1 Double Door entrance into and out of the Pits. This will be for not only pedestrian but also robot traffic. So we will be adding Traffic Control Volunteers to our list. But the good news is now every one will be in 1 Pit Area!

The Competition field will have seating on Both sides of the Field.

The Volunteer Lounge is on the 3rd floor with no elevator access so we are working on either an additional 1st floor lounge or a way to bring down food/drink for those volunteers.

Parking is not as abundant next to the arena as it was at QCR.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask or PM me.

Thanks!!
